WHEN I CALL MYSELF A SHELL, I MEAN : // a used up bullet casing // the aftermath of something lethal // an echo of inflicted evil
once upon a time —— i thought i could be someone. someone brave. someone { pure } . —- now i’m all grown up — & all i am is tainted. b l o o d s t a i n e d .
( i wish i could go back. )
( * & . — THE GOOD PLACE SENTENCE STARTERS / PART 2 .
‘ and then i remembered … i’m a naughty bitch . ’
‘ because i love you … i think . no , i’m pretty sure . yeah , i love you . ’
‘ birth is a curse . existence is a prison . ’
‘ girl , you are a messy bitch who loves drama and i’m into it . ’
‘ holy motherforking shirtballs . ’
‘ i am revved up and ready to learn . my brain is horny ! ’
‘ i came to apologize . there … i did it . i apologized . ’
‘ i could kill them right now and , you know , that would be easy . ’
‘ i could never get close to anyone . i never even told a boyfriend i loved him . ’
‘ i don’t know how to describe it … like , a different zone of time . no , that sounds stupid . a different clock land . ’
‘ i don’t know how to tell you this , but i’m dying . i mean , we’re all dying , slowly . when you think about it , we started dying the day we were born . ’
‘ i don’t know , man . maybe just tell her that you’re gay . ’
‘ i don’t need you to respond because i know you have trouble saying how you feel . ’
‘ i feel like you always understand about 20% of what’s happening . ’
‘ i got a flu virus named after me because i kissed a bat on a dare . ’
‘ i just have some worries , as well as some concerns that could potentially turn into outright fears . oh , there they go . they are fears now . ’
‘ i love you . and i don’t need you to respond because i know you have trouble saying how you feel . ’
‘ i was a good person for six months . that’s like five years . ’
‘ i wasn’t worth changing for . ’
‘ i will literally see you all in hell . ’
‘ in the words of my actual friends : ya basic ! ’
‘ is everything okay ? i mean , other than , you know … everything . ’
‘ is this why you came here ? to scold me on the metric system ? ’
‘ i’m gonna eat all this chili … and / or die trying . do you want any ? ’
‘ i’m gonna miss you , bud . ’
‘ i’m outtie , see ya in hell ! ’
‘ i’ve gained a lot of new skills recently . for example , i learned how to be passive aggressive . totally fine that you guys didn’t notice . ’
‘ love isn’t a triangle , it’s a five dimensional blob . ’
‘ more guys should be bi . it’s 2018 . it’s like , get over yourselves ! ’
‘ none of your exes have gotten over you . ’
‘ oh no ! now the thing i said after we kissed will always be ‘ hot diggity dog . ’ oh well , it was an honest reaction and i stand by that . ’
‘ somehow , i never want to leave you . ’
‘ that broke me . i’m done . ’
‘ that’s not a present . that’s just common decency . ’
‘ the other possible medical diagnosis is that you’re just a bit of a dick . ’
‘ their bodies are made very poorly . they’re mostly goo and juice . you just take the juice out and then they’re dead . ’
‘ there’s no point to anything and you’re just gonna die so do whatever ! ’
‘ ugh , of course your hugs are amazing . ’
‘ wasn’t he banned from disney world for biting buzz lightyear ? ’
‘ what a creep . why was i friends with him ? ’
‘ whatever progress i have made it’s because you and i have become friends . ’
‘ whenever anyone tells me a story about their life i imagine all the people as being super hot . otherwise i quickly lose interest . ’
‘ who the hell is this chick ? ’
‘ why do bad things always happen to mediocre people who are lying about their identity ? ’
‘ why is it every time a new thing is invented humans immediately try to use it for porn ? ’
‘ yeah , i love you . ugh , that’s embarrassing . i feel so itchy . ’
‘ you are too selfish to ever be a good person . ’
‘ you got it , you piece of ... butt . ’
‘ you need to ghost her . disappear . block her number . bonus : anything she left in your apartment is now legally yours . ’
‘ you are brilliant , charming , obviously gorgeous . ’
‘ you’re my friend . that’s why i can’t kill you . ’

“Oh... I had really hoped he was here. We had some... Affaires à faire.”
Narnia. That sounded familiar. Racking his brain for the knowledge on the subject, a perpetual smile placed on his face, “Yes! My mother used to read it to my s--- Me. I was very young then.”
He hushed as she continued to speak. Silent until he held a firm belief that she finished speaking. Meadow’s explanation wasn’t the most far-out thing he’s heard. The boy got instructed to kill people for money, after all... Instead of working a job like normal people.
Perpetual things never really lasted though, did they? The smile fluctuated, leaving his jaw slightly agape. Amie’s eyes widened momentarily, falling to disbelief, “So... I don’t go back ‘home’?” Regardless of there being a type of ecstatic tone in his voice and happy expression, unrelenting fear got subconsciously hidden behind the act. “Putain... Père va être tellement en colère,“ he muttered. Several more things came out but they got quieter as he proceeded to talk to himself.

Knowing that she was able to speak French, at least a little, made him conflicted on whether he should see that as a problem or a good thing. The compliment prompted a tilt of his head and a joyful nod, “Thank you... I... Only know by the... The family I was with.”
Edith’s explanation didn’t help his understanding. Not even the basics about the Fog were grasped. All except for the fact that there is something lurking about that caused the survivors distress. Amie scoffed at her sentence and added, “Bien sûr, les choses peuvent définitivement empirer.”
“Ah, excuse me,” came immediately after. Even after all the scolding, comments such as those were something he couldn’t ever shake off. “If that’s all you’ve got to offer then... Thank you... Again.”
Watching her try so hard to stay awake made him pity her. His hand slowly lifted to rest on her shoulder, speaking in a softer voice now, “Are you okay? If you need to sleep, I could... I could, ah... Watch over you. Wake up if... Something happens. You need it; sleep.” “I know we’ve only met but it’s the least I could do.”

Bewildered eyes glazed over the softball player. Her words seemed to catch him off guard. Of course, he had waded through inches of snow for more time than he could count off the top of his head, but he didn’t expect to get so far that people forgot where they resided. “... France. Is that... Is that not where we are?”
Things didn’t process as soon as he hoped. Typically, he’d be able to connect things faster than people had time to explain but... This seriously threw him off his case. Mentioning of bad things caused an amused puff of air to leave, “You must be late, then.”
Proceeding to think over her words, his brows came together, creating creases in the soft skin between them. “I’m sorry but... I don’t understand.”
“Pourquoi les Américains n'ont-ils aucun sens...“ He muttered, seemingly talking to himself from the use of a different language.

A mere nod followed, grateful for her welcome. Staying longer than intended wasn’t planned but he needed to warm up; to make sure he had everything needed before continuing on his mission.
His feet crossed over one another, hands clasped together in his lap, “Meadow,” he repeated, halting to make sure he pronounced it correctly, “It’s a pretty name.” The sentence finished with his lips curving, a pit of his dimple showing off. Her stuttering led him to add another sentence, “You can relax with me.”
There was a soft hum resonating from his throat as he thought of anything he needed to be answered. Drifting eyes wandered around the border of the forest, falling back onto Meadow. Mouth slightly agape, he tried to get the right words. “A man... Maybe just a few... A few minutes in front of me... Have you seen him?”
Amie figured the question would be odd so his head shook after, figuring it wouldn’t very well be answered, “Fog? I can’t say I have ever heard of that place...--” He paused, taking in that she spoke English surprisingly well. Confusion washed over him as he began to speak again. “Your English is really good. Where are we? It can’t be France...”
Things would get worse | @softballsurv | Continued here
His skeptical stare centered on the log in which she sat upon lifted when she spoke. Eye contact was a useful thing. People told many stories with their eyes. Whether they lied, told of the truth, hiding their true meaning of what they say behind them... That’s when he figured something wasn’t right with this place.
Slowly, he sat beside the unfamiliar face, keeping his distance but sitting close enough to avoid any extra discomfort. “The Fog,” He repeated, thinking back to what he encountered before finding the strange place, “Because of... The fog around, is it not?”
Questions flooded his already tangled mind and it took everything in him to keep from spilling them all out. Everything had to be sorted before more questions begged to be answered. Tapping his fingers at a slow rhythm to get the blood flowing but also to get his mind working faster. Not wanting to put too much on her, he figured easing into the larger questions at hand would be the best approach.
“The blizzard stopped so fast---” “I guess things are weird here? They all seem so... Tired. I assume something happened...”
A Warm Welcome | @rayne-and-meadows | Continued here
The interruption of her own sentence caused an eyebrow to perk up. Concern from someone who hardly knew him was something he could never grow used to. Her words took a second to process. Nodding prompted her sentence as he allowed himself to follow her. His guard was high. There had to be a reason why everyone looked the way they had.
A while of simply staring at the bright flames brought him to craning his head towards the stranger. Mostly, he focused on how she seemed shy and self-conscious, her eyes locked below eye level. Tension was most likely high with her.
Squinting at the fire like he was searching for something in it, his head raised to take a look at the faces scattered about the close proximity. Glancing towards her, another nod was directed. “Thank you so much... I can see why everyone is over here. Especially because of the blizzard,” he murmured.
Quietly clearing his throat, he pressed his hands together as if testing their warmth. Apparently satisfied, a hand extended out to her, eyes now settled on looking at her. “Sorry, let me start... My name is Amie. It’s nice to meet you...?” Amie’s sentence was dragged out as he waited for something to fill the gap with.
Starter Call | Welcoming
Frosty air nipped at his exposed face.
The blizzard had hit hard. Why his target decided to go into the midst of the storm was uncomprehensible. No one would likely be out there during such a time and that made his job that much easier. Gunfire that registered his kill would never be heard and his corpse would likely go unfound under the thick blanket of snow.
At least, that’s how things were supposed to go.
The forest at that time was blinding, snow piling up faster than he had time to follow the imprinted steps on the ground. He should’ve turned back while he could but the window of opportunity was too large to pass up.
What seemed like hours had passed of him treading through the undesirable climate. The snow eased until it thawed; revealing the suffocating fog that swarmed at his feet. It was odd, for sure... Snow clearing as fast as it had, the fog that captured his breath and made him nearly choke for oxygen.
Not one lick of sense was knocked into him. He had a mission and it would be followed through with to the end. Continuing through the subtle torture, a soft orange glow could be seen through thickets of trees and bushes. Could it possibly be the thorn that has been stuck in his side for months? A fire that he started to keep warm in this bitter cold?
It wasn’t until he got closer towards the light source that he figured out who and what caused it: ten or so people sitting around a bonfire, exhaustion laced into each and every one of their faces. Something happened. There must be a reason why they look so... Desolate; why they weren’t leaving the fire after their clothing was dirtied and tattered.
Confusion settled in with him. Standing at the border of the trees, wary eyes studied the bunch. Chills were shot up his spine and caused him to come to the realization of the numb fingers that rubbed at his jacket; desperate to create heat in the friction between the two. A huff from chattered teeth was released as he sauntered towards the crackling bonfire.
Though, Amié wouldn’t be left in muddled thinking for long. A person came close, he assumed they were a camper along with the others. His body visibly tense as sharp and widened eyes observed their every movement. “... Hello,” he breathed, his accent unbearably thick.
