When my mother recently left an online community she was part of - a community she was very attached to but that ended up being toxic to her - she said it in a perfectly apt way:

"I wouldn't put up with them in real life, so why would I put up with them on the internet?"

"Social justice," what a fucking joke. What a fucking joke that because I stick up for myself and I stick up for others I'm suddenly one of "those social justice people." What a fucking joke that I've lived through things and don't want you talking about shit you know NOTHING about. I'm fine with your privilege! I don't give a SHIT about your privilege, I have it too! But don't fucking talk to me like you KNOW shit you DON'T, because I will shut you down in about a second and not even care.

I've always found people who rely entirely on online friends kind of disturbing. Online friends can be really rewarding, they can be great - but they can also be socially stunted and immature. People who don't understand how to navigate friendships flock to the internet in large quantity, and for someone like me who expects more from people, it's stressful when they blunder around a social relationship like a fucking headless chicken.

I'm very much the type to become more attached to someone once I meet them irl. I suppose attached isn't the correct word, though, because it's less that I'm attached to people I've met irl than that I'm detached from people I haven't. If I've met you irl, I'll make an effort! If not... then it's "bye bitch" to you.

In light of my quickly increasing workload and the recent downhill trend in my emotional state, bye bitch.

BUT... you're gonna want to make sure she doesn't suffer any back or neck problems post-accident because that sucks

and my grandfather was in a similarly bad car accident a few years back and he's still on painkillers... but on the other hand he broke his back two years prior to that, and my mother was in a hit and run that totaled her car about six years ago and save some pain in the weeks after she was fine

I'm sure she'll be fine, good luck shopping for a new car with that insurance cash!
