BattleTech Art: Wayback Machine
I’m working on some scripts for a series of short videos for Harebrained Schemes coming BattleTech Kickstarter. And while digging for appropriate art to correspond to those scripts, serendipity struck.
I’ve got dozens of gigs of old archived files from FASA from half a dozen computers. And it’s simply endless hours of work to go through it all. And so several of us have slowly parsed it out over the years. And I could’ve sworn up and down I’d been in the zip file I was looking at, but I dug anyone as the Finder said something was in there. And abruptly I found another zip file, within the zip file and in there, in random alpha-numeric-coded, unreadable files I had to manually turn readable (often using multiple programs to transition files to a place where I could use them), I found a treasure trove of old BattleTech art.
I was overwhelmed with nostalgia and once again reminded of one of the reasons BattleTech exploded so big and ultimately for so long…such wonderfully evocative art.
For this last cover, posting it to see how fast someone can name where it’s from. I’ve a ridiculously good mind for remembering art, especially when it comes to BattleTech. But even for me, this one took me a minute or two to finally place, seeing as I’d not looked at the cover in well over a decade. See if you can remember faster!
