Rugaru. God damn Rugaru. Rugarus? Dean wasn’t sure and he wasn’t entirely in the position to be questioning what the grammatically correct plural should be. He knew there was some amount off bullshit gathering in Sioux Falls, but he honestly never expected to find one rugaru, never mind four. Were they even pack monsters? Either way, two were on him, two were on Sam and Dean had had his face slammed into the ground so many times that they had drawn blood, blood that was no doubt sending them into a frenzy. Fire was the best things to kill these assholes, but as it stood, they only had the demon-killing knife and that, of course, had just been knocked from Dean’s hand and was currently skidding across the concrete. Dean only managed to catch a glimpse of Sam being pinned to the ground- “Sammy!” he’d called- before being pinned down himself.
Sam hit the ground hard, head spinning as he tried to figure out where Dean had dropped the knife. Even if they couldn’t kill the bastards, they might be able to slow them down enough to escape. But things looked pretty hairy as it was. “Dean!” He yelled back, unable to see his brother. For all he knew, it was already too late. “Dean, do you have anything on you? A knife, or a gun, or anything? I’m all out of options here!” He spit out, trying to shove the Rugaru holding him down off.
Of all the things Laurel had expected to crop up in Sioux Falls, Rugaru (Rugarus? Rugari?) weren't top of the list. And yet. They might not have been the most popular monster but they were still as nasty as they came hence why she'd been on this pack’s tail for weeks now. The sad thing was they all started out human with their genetics getting to them in the end. See? Family. They'll screw you over every time. Once they did turn though, you had to get to burning them because nothin' was getting between a Rugaru and his dinner. 'Long pig' a hunter she'd met in passing once called it. The other, other meat. Back to the hunt though... Laurel had been hot on their trail, carefully planning how to break 'em up so she could take them out one- maybe two- at a time until there was nothing but ashes left. Of course that plan hadn't gone to, well, plan. And of course it was because of the Winchesters.
Sam and Dean. It just had to be Sam and Dean. She might have hesitated had she not been a better hunter. By the time they'd derailed her plan, by the time she'd thrown the plan out the window and pulled an improvised version outta her ass, they were already pinned down and outta options. At least it would have seemed that way. She felt...apprehensive. Which she hated but managed to push down real far in order to crash onto the scene to quote unquote “save the day”. All she had to do was not set a Winchester on fire. Should have been easy enough, right?
“Hey! Ugly!” School yard yet effective (and besides, no offence but the Rugaru weren't wining any beauty pageants) because it caught their attention. She took the chance while it was still hot, squeezing down hard on the makeshift mini-flamethrower she'd fashioned and aiming towards the one that'd decided she was more interesting than Dean was. That certainly caught the others' attention. Laurel didn't miss a beat. With her free hand, she managed to ring off a few shots, hitting rotten flesh (not Sam) and causing enough noise they got themselves even more riled up. Moving fast, her boot hit the hilt of the knife one of them had dropped. It wouldn't be smart to take her eye off them but she dove down to grab the knife anyways, turning her attention to Dean before tossing it back towards him.
“You gonna make yourself useful or just lay there waiting to win Dish of the Day? Hey!” She yelled over to Sam then, moving to put the safety back on her gun (wouldn't it be a shame if after all that she still wound up shooting him on accident? Kinda at least) before tossing it over to him. “You're not sitting this one out either, buddy.”
