“I just thing it’s mean for family to say something that is demeaning towards you,” Dixie shrugged. She came from a very close family, so the idea of doing anything other than uplifting each other seemed foreign to her. “Yeah, Dixie,” she offered a soft smile before nodding at the question- well, before laughing, “I find it the opposite. Writers tend to have their head in the clouds and far from attached to our shoulders.” She paused before adding, “Maybe just romance writers.”

“Midsummer is okay,” Maia conceded with a light shrug. “But I’m reluctant to call it top. To me, falling in love shouldn’t require the use of magic. It’s a delightful play, but that aspect of it isn’t my favorite.”

“Magic in Midsummer is used to provide a humor component to the play, but also to show an exaggeration of love; an extension of the foolish behavior that loves inspires even without magic. Oberon explains to the audience when he starts towards be the beginning of the play with ‘What thou sees when thou dost wake, do it for thy true-love take; Love and languish for his sake; Be it ounce, or cat, or bear, pard, or boar with bristled hair. . .', that when magic is included in affairs of the heart, any kind of comedy and chaos might follow, as it did when someone fell in love with an animal.” She shrugged, “I don’t necessarily think that it’s that they needed magic to fall in love, more so it helped showcase people falling in love with unexpected objects of affection. In real life, that may be someone who is completely opposite of you versus in the magical world he created, it would be falling in love with the animal.”

“–You should make a banana cream pie and give me some,” Colton replied, easily distracted by the thought of someone making his favorite kind of pie. “But I do think the custard tastes like it, maybe it’s all in my head.” He grimaced. “I only like pumpkin pie on Thanksgivin’– otherwise it just doesn’t taste right. Strawberry’s good, though– I don’t even know how much of it I ate at the festival,” he chuckled. “Alright, English Toffee is acceptable, I approve.”

“I can definitely make you a banana cream pie,” Dixie offered with a soft smile. Already noting it in her mind to do over the weekend. She loved to bake, it wouldn’t hurt her to make one of them. Maybe she’d make herself a key lime one. Her favorite pie. “Oh yeah, Thanksgiving is the only time Pumpkin pie should be a thing, but also maybe not... I swear I eat like two whole pumpkin pies in a day. I don’t even want the potatoes or corn. Just the pie.” A light laugh escaped her, “Thanks for the approval. I can now sleep well at night.”

“Did you know that you can’t really dance in these when they’re brand new like this? You’ve got to break them in,” Lucy said, briefly looking up from using a carpenter’s file to rough up the sole of her pointe shoes. “I usually have to step on them and slam them against a wall, too. It’s pretty violent…which probably sounds surprising. Thankfully I don’t go through twenty pairs in two months anymore.”

“I did not know that,” Dixie stated, her eyes going to the shoes, “All I know is they look painful to wear when you do the tops of your toes thing. The idea of that scared me too much as a kid, I think that’s why i don’t dance to this day,” she giggled.

“Nothing beats a drive in for nostalgia, though. At least we still have one of those? Plus, I think Butler has a video rental store if you went there anyway! Just not a Blockbuster.”

“No one can take that from you and I have to thank someone for that because I’d be damned if it was anyone else that could do this.” She looked up at Dixie with a smile as she fell into the couch next to her. Andy took a pickle from the jar, crunching it in half as she raised a brow in Dixie’s direction. “Dare I ask why you have an easy bake oven in the car?” She finished the pickle off, “I don’t have to be worried about you do I?” 

“I think I would be the most distraught if someone came in and took my place,” Dixie stated, staring forward as she thought about it. Shaking her head to pull herself back to reality she chuckled, “New topic, I don’t want to think about that it’s too dark.” Pulling the jar back after Andy took the pickle, she grabbed another one for herself, chuckling as she bit down into it. Shrugging, “There are all sorts of things that an easy bake oven could be used for. Why would you have any reason to be worried?”

“I can’t say that I have, s’that really what you were thinkin’? Did you actually go out and eat a leaf after you were done watchin’? I mean I guess I made my share of mud pies as a kid but I never ate ‘em. You should, at least the first one. Just be warned that there may be tears.”

“I mean, not for a lack of trying but my dad put a stop to it pretty quick and just gave me some romaine lettuce. Basically the same thing. Mud pies are different! You’re just making something else out of mud. The leaf that is in those movies look delicious and crunching. I stand by my opinion.”

“Okay, but what about Splendor in the Grass? I swear, I cried for a baby for days after grandpa made me sit through that one. No, wait! I got it! Moulin Rouge. That has to be a contender,” she says before giving her aunt a serious look. “Don’t joke about Shrek. Their love is deep and pure.”

“Moulin Rouge... that is a great one, I agree” Dixie nodded, her mind drifting off for a moment before adding, “also, Gone with a Wind is a classic.” There were so many great love stories produced, it was hard for Dixie to pick a favorite. Laughing softly at Bab’s serious look, she shook her head, “Hey, not joking. It’s a good story for an animation.”

Jolene shook her head waving off the apologize. “Never apologize for your opinions.” She smiled at Dixie. “It’s going in your home, so you should make it exactly how you want it.” The blonde flipped to a new page in her sketchbook. “What did you want it to say again? Just ‘Schaffer’?”

“Yeah, Schaffer is good,” Dixie hummed, her eyes moving from the sketchbook up to Jolene, “Honestly, thanks for doing this. You’re so talented, I can’t believe you’re here in tiny Frostford.”

“Honestly, I haven’t tried it but I have to say that if I wanted watermelon ice cream I would hope it was a sorbet.”

“Paperwork doesn’t really have a curfew,” she shrugged as well, rubbing her eyes as Dixie spoke, “Banana nut is just fine, thank you,” she spoke, shooting the other a smile, “Oh, don’t worry about it. I have to be up in…” Looking down at her watch she spoke again, “2 hours, anyways.”

“Two hours?” Her eyes widened. That sounded awful. Dixie had always been an early riser. She loved the sunrise, especially if she was surrounded by trees and got to see the light start to peak through the spaces in the leafs. She forgot sometimes that people weren’t like that. Or that they stayed up fairly late. Pulling out a banana nut muffin and handing the baggie over to her, “Here. I’ll leave you be so you can get some rest though. Sorry for interrupting again.”

“That’s a good point… I went in for my weekly appointment to Splittin’ Hairs and Aileen wasn’t there, she’s really the only one I trust to do my nails but I didn’t want to be walkin’ around with week old nails. So, I settled for a gel polish, plus I heard that gel is good for your nails or something?”

“I’m not sure if it’s good for them but it’s probably better than acrylics?” She guessed, clear in the up-flex of her tone towards the end of the sentence. Shrugging she admitted, “I’m not a nail expert. I’ve never had acrylics and I get a gel manicure maybe a once a month. Or if I have some big meeting coming up or something. Either way, I do think your nails look nice. Plus, if you go once a week then you only have them for a week if you don’t like them.”

“Yeah, that makes a lot more sense. I really need to stop believing everything I see on the internet,” she said, letting out a laugh. She could  honestly be too gullible sometimes. “Especially things that are on Tik Tok. I don’t even know why I have that app in the first place.” She didn’t post anything, she just found the videos amusing. 

“I don’t have a Tik Tok, but I heard that it can be fun. Do you do the dances and stuff? I barely have a phone, I just use this for work stuff,” she shrugged, noting to the cell phone in her hand.

“I strongly disagree. The original Rocky film is the best out of the franchise. It just simply is.”

“I mean, that may be true to you but I think Creed reinvented the whole franchise. It shattered expectations, it pushed us into unfamiliar territory as it did Rocky. It shows us that with a fight we can get anything we want.”

Josephine laughed a  Dixie’s words and shook her head. “I’ve got too much to deal with a law suit so I’ll keep myself clean. Thanks for the reminder, though.” Not that she would have run the teenagers with her car… Probably. And she had been young once, too, so what the hell, she’d let them be. “Ah, I see. You’re working at the coffee shop? I’m still trying to catch up with what everyone’s been up to these years.” She smiled.

“Oh, no,” she stated with a small shake of her head, “Well.. somedays, I suppose I do write while sitting in the shop but most days I go down by the riverbank to write.” She paused before clarifying, “I write movie scripts. Romance mainly, like the cheesy Hallmark ones? I’m a sucker for those,” she chuckled. “What have you been up to though?”
