#SongoftheDay #28 - @FreddieGibbs and @Madlib 'Scarface'

The Piñata tape from genius producer Madlib and criminally underrated MC Freddie Gibbs is outstanding, as everyone expected. 

The one disappointment I had is with the opening song, 'Scarface'. It's too short!! I love Madlib's style of short strong songs and creative interludes- copied by many in the years since Madvillain. But this instrumental is so goddamn sweet I want at least 2 more verses. In fact, I want an 8 minute posse cut on this jam.

True to form Gangsta Gibbs is funky and oh so hard simultaneously. He does't waste a bar for basically the entire album. And the rest of the instrumentals…pure butter. On permeant rotation. 

I'm internetting hard today. Got a big time update rendering right now. Something I'm proud of.

#Songoftheday #27 Armand Hammer - No Roses

I'm back… no apologies.

This album is on heavy rotation at my place and on my headphones. An aggressive but smooth, warm but prickly effort by this NYC super-duo, 'Race Music' rewards multiple listens musically and lyrically. 

No Roses might be my favorite track on the record, largely based on the unbelievably soulful sample. After the intro, you might want/expect it to turn into a Just Blaze banger, but by the end of the first verse this track has paid-off big time. Turn them shits up!
