Not to downgrade Mrs. Hamilton's contribution to science or the Apollo 11 program - since her real contributions are significantly more important than this misguided pic would suggest - but she didn't exactly write this code, let alone by hand. Instead, she was in charge of the team who did. Instead of just being some lowly programmer, Hamilton was a team leader, who's skills in both computer programming, engineering, and management led to a computer system on board the Apollo 11 lander that diverted at most a disaster, and at the least a waived off landing. She went on to co-found and chair one company and then found and chair another. She has been recognized multiple times with awards from the scientific community and academia, as well as being a prolific writer in scientific journals.
Yes, she has been a mathematical and scientific badass her entire life, and one we should hold up to show what women can achieve even an era that was significantly more unfavorable to women than it is today. But don't take all of her hard work and think that you can sum it up in the way the caption with the photo above does. A picture speaks a thousand words - let's make sure the handful more you add to it doesn't denigrate the actual message.
