SimPE for Mac now exists! It is a Wine wrapper around the Windows SimPE 0.8.2.11, patched for Mac file paths, loading objects and TXTR files from the Stuff Packs Huge Lunatic extracted, if they are installed in BonVoyage/TSData/Res/Catalog/Bins. Fixed Wine weirdness of not properly displaying the Resource List. Should work on both Intel and M series Macs, but is dependent on Rosetta on Apple M series.
Like all Wine apps, your local hard drive will be the Z drive in the open and save file menus. To get to your Sims 2 folder, you click Z>Users>yourusername>Library>Containers>com.aspyr.sims2.appstore>Data>Library>Application Support>Aspyr>The Sims 2.
It is not uploaded to MTS, because it exceeds the maximum file size for upload. I am working on that. The wine wrapper makes this a large app. Like 1.2 gig. I went through becoming an official Apple developer and getting the app approved, so MacOS won't complain and refuse to run it. You can download the .dmg now from my github. https://github.com/rhiamom/SimPE-Mac-Wine/releases
One year of my life, well-spent! And please, don’t just like this, please please reblog it!
Made it for myself, I might as well share. If there's something I've missed please let me know.
This list is being updated, Tumblr is being a pain and updates won't show up on re-blogs. Visit the original post to view the most current version.

I have updated the UI of Object Relocator to the same format as Outfit Organiser and ported over most of the folder/file management features of Outfit Organiser.
This means that in addition to moving objects around in the game catalogs, you can also move their associated .package file around on the file system.
The folder menu (and right-click context menu on the folder tree) can be used to rename a folder, add a new folder, move a folder and delete a folder (if it is empty). In addition, folders can be moved via drag-and-drop within the folder tree.
The package menu (and right-click context menu on the package list) can be used to rename a single package, or move, merge and delete multiple packages. In addition, packages can be moved via drag-and-drop from the package list into the folder tree.
There is a new "Confirm Delete" option on the Mode menu to enable/disable the annoying delete confirmation popups.
And if that wasn't enough, support for hood deco objects (XNGB resources) has been added (selected via the Mode menu).
first, some questions:
what? mapping is basically how the polygons of the mesh sit over the texture.
why? instead of having 1024x1024 textures that only use 512x256 of that texture (creating uglier, lower quality texture), have 1024x1024 textures that use ALL of that space.
why again? i see so many beginner converters that post hairs that have this specific problem, so i decided to write a tutorial so simple even an embryo can follow it.
first of all, open your mesh in Milkshape. In the groups tab, select the group that has the hair (and not the scalp), then click on the tab labelled "materials"
on the materials tab, click the thing that says "new". this will create a brand new material
select assign, if the mesh is selected you should now be able to edit the mapping via this
on the top part, click the tab labelled "window" and then click on "texture coordinate editor".
now you'll see something like this, sad stretched mapping in the corner. click on "scale"
for 99% of alpha hairs, put value 1 as "2.0" and value 2 as "4.0". the scalp that is on 99% of alpha hairs is NOT attached to the hair mesh, so if it is on the texture, crop it out.
perfect! now the mapping uses all the space in the texture.
Do all the other mesh things (making the packages, linking recolors, fitting, bones etc.)
Skipping like 20 steps, to make the texture fit, crop it in photoshop like this. then use it to make the alpha and texture you probably know how.
YOU'RE DONE! if u remap when converting, do it first before converting the mesh to any other ages so you don't have to repeat the process. if you're remapping other people's conversions with this problem, do it for every age. enjoy, lmk if u have any questions.
Everything in here about remapping is also applicable to converted accessories, which often use just a fraction of the space on their texture. (Unlike hair, though, it might make sense to use a smaller image for low-detail/unpatterned/solid color accessories.)
Sims 2 - moving between discs / installing on Windows 8/10/11
I made this list two years ago after I finally transfered all my files from my old disc to my current one, which also meant that I had to install sims 2 again.. soo I made some (read: many) notes for future me if I ever have to do this shit again, and I thought it could perhaps be useful for someone else? I know many probably have switched to linux (I 100% support that and I would totally do the same, but I have a mac for all the other stuff and really only use my pc for sims) but this list is more like a "don't forget these files (and programs!) if you ever have to install sims 2 again", and it's kinda long... sorry about that haha. I'm on win10, but the tutorial I follow is for win8 and I recently installed ts2 on my sister's win11 pc (EUW) using the same tutorial.
NOTE: I made this list for me and it's a bit messy (sorry), if anything is unclear let me know<3
I always follow this tutorial when installing ts2 on Win10. I installed all the ep- and sps in order, but sometimes, even though I updated the basegame, it would say something like "the sims 2 pets might need a newer update" AFTER it said "your game is up to date", and if you click on OK or close the window, the ep/sp you installed will uninstall itself. To fix this, when you get the "the sims 2 pets might need a newer update" message, simply open task manager and force quit the updater and installer via task manager. Then they won't unistall themselves and you can continue installing the next ep/sp. This is not an option if you install directly from the disks, so I recommend doing the disk-images-way the tutorial abvoAlso, on my sister's pc with win11, I sometimes couldn't install some eps/sps. "Admin something" had blocked the installer from running, and nothing that I did worked. I solved it by opening commandpromt with admin properties (important!) and copy/pasting the location to the autorun.exe, with "cd: " in front. Example: cd: C:\Disk Images\disk1\AutoRun.exe (can't find the website from where I learned this (I'm not that familiar with commandpromt) so I can't take credit for this. But according to this reddit post, it seems that changing your pc's date to anything before 2020 is also an option if you don't want to bother with commandpromt.)
SimPE version 0.75.69.15 is clean and has no nudity (I'm pretty sure I downloaded it from here, and there's a "blur nudity" option under extra - preferences - simpe settings) but SimPE doesn't need to "install" and I could just drag the folder from my old disc to my new one (love that). The "out of memory" fix thread is here, and if you like me have trouble with SimPE "using files" even after you've clicked file - new (and therefore can't move/edit/delete said file), the solution is here (though it doesn't get rid of the problem completely, but still an improvement). You also want to double check that the paths to ts2 eps/sps in SimPE is correct, you can do that under "extra - preferences - system folders".
The Managed DirectX 9c you need can be found here, and the nvidia dds utilities has been saved by wayback here but also re-uploaded by osab here (and you can put anything when it asks for an "organization" during the installation, I wrote my name). Don't forget to make sure the path is correct in SimPE (under extra - preferences - simpe settings). Also, don't forget to check the "advance mode" under "extra - preferences - simpe settings" (otherwise you won't get the advanced options for the object workshop etc).
The file you should "lock" aka make read only is "objects.package" and it's located in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 *insert ep/sp here*\TSData\Res\Objects (not sure if you need to lock all or only the latest ep's one, but I made all read-only as a precaution. By all I do really mean all, the ones named objects1.package, objects2.package etc in ALL ep/sp folders).
Sims2RPC is a lot easier to install than I remember, and here is the no-cd-crack for M&G! Remember to delete the original one (or move it somewhere as a backup) and then drag/paste the no-cd-crack one, replacing it doesn't always work (or rather, I have trust issues with replacing files lol). Don't forget to apply the 4GB patch in RPC settings, or maybe it is automatically enabled? Can't remember. If you don't use RPC, here is the 4GB patch.
Graphics rule.sgr is located in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSData\Res\Config. If you're using my list as a first time ts2 player, you can use graphics rules maker to fix it, or grab veronavillequiltingbee's file here. I remember editing this file by hand back in 2017 and feeling like I was unstoppable.
Don't forget to check if you have any files in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Catalog\Bins, the custom fences, fireplaces etc (installed with Scriptorium) are located in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Catalog\Scripts. As for RPC mods, C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSBin\mods. And if you have a custom wantTrees.package file (located in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff\TSData\Res\Wants), don't forget that one, or simply download it again.
Don't forget the CEP-extras in the program files! C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Catalog\zCEP-EXTRA
If you have any custom loading screens, they are here: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\UI
I added my graphics card to the "Video Cards.sgr" file back in 2017 (don't remember how I came to this conclusion but I remember doing it), it's located in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Herrgård och trädgård Prylpaket (aka your latest ep)\TSData\Res\Config. Edit: I found this page, maybe I did it because of that? But apparently it's useless anyway so maybe don't bother.
Lighting mods + lighting edits (I never know if I install WLBF correctly hah..)
No intro tutorial.
Custom font tutorial.
Default video/computer games (or tv-shows defaults) are located in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 *insert ep/sp here*\TSData\Res\Movies.
Resolution and anti-alias fix. Before I installed reshade (and now have to use the game's anti-alias) I actually had anti-alias off in the game's settings, I used the option in nvidiaProfileInspector instead. I have a post with my settings here.
Nopke's shadow fix!
The clean no-npc-templates are here.
Homecrafter plus, Scriptorium, CEP (SimPE CEP-load-order-check) and Milkshape (+ UniMesh, UV-flipper, align normals) are programs you'll (me) want to install again.
WSO plug-ins for milkshape from T$R workshop are located here, but I also uploaded the files here if you don't want to bother.
How to edit the "string"-name in SimPE? See here!
And lastly, don't forget to grab the EA GAMES folder in documents!
I think that's all? I've re-read this list so many times now but if anything is wrong or unclear, let me know! Happy simming!!

In The Sims 2, Sim faces contain hidden morphs that can be extracted in different ways. For a long time, only two morphs were known, but there are actually more.
1. Extracting Morphs via SimPE
What You Need:
SimPE (enable "Advanced Mode" in the settings).
Sims2Pack Clean Installer (if no ready-made files are available).
MilkShape 3D 1.8.5
Steps:
Get the Face File:
If you have a SavedSims folder, choose any file from it.
If not, extract any Sim using Sims2Pack Clean Installer and locate the Face Preset file.
Open the File in SimPE:
Open the file in SimPE.
Find the Geometric Data Container (GMDC) resource.
Select the Sim's age group.
Export the Model with Morphs:
Click Export..., save the file in SMD format.
When prompted "Do you want to export Morph Meshes??", select Yes.
View Morphs in MilkShape 3D:
Import via File → Import → Half-Life SMD....
Select a morph and uncheck Rename Bones.
What Do the Morphs Contain?
One morph shows a smiling expression.
Another shows an angry or displeased expression.
2. Extracting All Morphs via 5gd File
What You Need:
SimPE.
Blender 2.80+.
GMDC Importer/Exporter (Blender plugin).
Steps:
Export the Face Model as a 5gd File:
In SimPE, open GMDC.
Right-click → Extract....
Save the file as 5gd.
Import into Blender:
Install the GMDC Importer/Exporter plugin.
Open Blender 2.80+ (Blender 2.79 only shows 4 morphs).
Import the 5gd file.
What Do the Morphs Contain?
Importing into Blender 2.80+ reveals all hidden morphs.
Additional Information
You can replace the default face model with one of the morphs to create a new default preset.
It works correctly in BodyShop and CAS.
There may be even more hidden morphs in the game that have yet to be discovered.
If you have any additional information about these hidden morphs, feel free to share!

How to fully remove a character and its associated file from a neighborhood without the MATY Deleted2 Method
I've never seen someone post a tutorial on how to actually delete a sim manually. I've eventually had to delete characters for my clean neighborhoods, so by putting a piece of info with another and trying to fill the spaces with what I could eventually realize, I found out how to, and I'd like to share my two words on it!
You might need this if:
You wish to delete characters from a neighborhood without opening it in-game.
You want to delete more than one character, and all in one sitting.
You find the MATY tutorial outdated and/or hard to follow.
You often work with SimPE, and you know very well that it doesn't have a search bar, so the Sim Description can be a huge list and it can be hard for you to find what you need if there's too many characters.
Otherwise, you can check out the Deleted 2 Method on MATY.
(MAKE SURE TO SKIP THE "RESET THE SIM INDEX" PART!)
I will assume you opened SimPE at least once, but I will nonethless include pictures for ease.
Please, keep in mind SimPE can be craptastically bad. I'm taking these on my laptop, where for some reason it uses a mixture of Italian and English. My language is set as English. I'm sorry, I don't know why it does this.
Let's get into it!
1) Find who you want to delete.
I'm going to delete Vidcund Curious from my dualhood.
2) Open the "Other" Section.
Here, we need to delete Skills and Badges, Wants and Fears and Memories.
3) Remove Skills and Badges.
Make sure all the values are zero.
4) Remove Memories.
Now go to memories, and remove EVERYTHING (SKILLS AND TOKENS FROM BEFORE, TOO). You can select all (drag your cursor over) and then click on the little "Remove".
Switch then to everyone that might have a memory of the sim, and remove those memories as well! (Met Vidcund, Vidcund grew up well, etc...)
5) Open SWAFs, click Delete.
(I think it's easier from the resource tree.)
Now Save. Save often. SimPE often forgets to make changes.
6)Go to Family Ties and remove all ties to anyone.
Double check relatives to ensure they still don't have the ties.
7) Go to relationships. Remove everything.
Back in SDSC, right click and "Delete relationship".
8) Make sure to not delete the DNA, or the one of everyone will be reset.
9) Delete the character file.
Keep in mind the name of the character file of the sim.
You can now go on and delete it.
9) Cross out the name on the SDSC.
Bye Vidsie!
10) Save!!!
That's it! No more Vidcund!
Wait! What if I did something wrong? Is it fixable?
Of course! Run Hoodchecker, and check if there's any leftovers.
Help! There's a mess!
Don't worry! Just run HC again and have it fix all of this!
This is a list of programs that will make your life easier if you're an avid Sims 2 player. Click on program titles to get download links.
SimPE
The most known software for The Sims 2 that lets you edit package files. You can do basic stuff like rename a Sim, change family name, edit Sims' genetics as well as edit/create mods. Don't use if you have no idea what you're doing, watch a tutorial first or back up your neighborhood beforehand in case you mess something up!
The main link is to the newest version that also has a terrain editor.
Sims2Pack Clean Installer
The best program for installing downloaded lots and Sims. Those don't just go into Downloads, you need to install them!
Hood Checker
This program checks neighborhood references and can clean out ones that are broken. Also useful for bringing back lost graves (it's still good to have NoUnlinkOnDelete).
HCDU Plus
The Hack Conflict Detector Unit lets you scan your Downloads folder to check if you have any mods that edit the same aspect of the game, so can potentially be in conflict. Also useful to navigate which mods load first (load order is important for some mods to work).
What Caused This
When you have 'testingcheats' on, the game gives you error messages if there's something going on. Not all of them mean there's a serious problem, but What Caused This can help you navigate what the source is. Upload the log file (Documents/EA/TS2/Logs) in the program, give it your Downloads folder and it will scan it to look for the culprit. Might give you straighforward information on which mod conflict caused the issue or that you lack Smarter EP Check for a mod that requires it.
Outfit Organiser
You downloaded CC clothes that the creator marked as outerwear but you think they don't fit in that category? With this program you can quickly change that! It's also doable in SimPE, but Outfit Organiser is a lot easier to use.
CPack Editor
If you want to make plastic surgery genetic, there's no need to do it manually in SimPE, especially if it's more than one Sim. In CPack Editor, you just choose your neighborhood's folder, run the program, and it changes ALL surgery faces in that neighborhood to genetic!
someone wrote a pretty long and detailed technical overview of the differences between the old sims 1 and sims 1 legacy collection if someone's interested
I've been poking around in the new Legacy Collection release for The Sims 2.
I started work on a small mod that currently adds the following:
Borderless fullscreen support
Toggle to skip intro videos.
Firstborn Syndrome Fix (Fixes broken RNG in general)
Experimental restored Lua features for modders.
Download on Github
Installation is simple, head to your game's installation directory -> EP9 -> TSBin and extract the contents there, alongside the game's executable. You can tweak the mod's features via notepad by editing the included .ini file.
Now let's hope EA actually addresses the other millions of issues the release has...
Updated, made a silly mistake and so the mod wouldn't work for everyone. Make sure you type "-w" into your game's launch parameters via Steam/EA App/etc. for borderless to work.
While embarking on my Nintendo DS object set, I found and used these cool websites with high quality images for these meshes. Here goes:
VIDEO GAMES/TECH CC
MobyGames - Contains scans of physical media - the box spine, front and back cover, the discs, even the cartridge. It even has scans for different regions too! Used this site for the upcoming DS set.
GameFaqs - Not only a site for game cheats and tutorials, it has scans of boxes for games and their consoles. Even Windows OS install boxes (which is on my list of objects i want for my game). Link takes you to The Sims box scans, but you just gotta go into the Media tab and click boxes to find the scans of whatever you need :)
DeviantArt - I used an example in the link of Nintendo Templates. These are user-created templates to make your own box arts or whatever. Super useful (and use with credits)
LaunchBox - Kinda similar to MobyGames
MUSIC AND POSTER CC
Discogs - I used this site for my CDs/Records CCs. Very high quality scans and overall easy to use. Plus, different regions and designs.
CineMaterial - Site with movie poster scans, even from different regions. Downside is you can only like... screenshot them cuz they want you to pay ;-;
The Movie Database - After editing just a second ago to add CineMaterial I found this one too. Also has posters! Basically the same without paying and watermarks.
Other sites used include Google Imgs, Pinterest and even Ebay. Hope this was useful :D Always check this original post rather than a reblog as I'm editing it a lot as I find things.
