Wolf pups, even domestic puppies play with milk-white milk-teeth flashing.

Bear cubs swat, soft pawed, at their siblings.

What do I do?

There is a softness, there is a sweetness still waiting, I know it.

What do I do?

I want to tell you that it is not the case, but even lambs knock heads.

Crack my heart open like a shell

(Two halves split perfectly, iridescent wings)

There will be no pearl inside

(Though I have swallowed enough sand to make millions)

I am full of hungry ghosts

(Yours, mine, my father’s and mother’s)

And I do not think that you can feed them.

What is it that I can tell you? I want to face East as the blazing sun rises.

I am the sea, threading my tongue through the delta- salty as my own waters she is.

There is something about the vitality where river meets the ocean-we go where we please and our salts mingle, at times.
