Some of his dreams are the same old, same old one off bizarre trips into the mess of Human subconscious as it throws stuff together. Katie demanding a pet Rhino-chicken, Scott telling him he wants to be an Irish line dancer and then twirling like a ballerina instead. Gabriel holding him by his throat, eyes burning with absolute hatred...
Okay that last one wasnât exactly the whimsical average dream but itâs not a recurring one either. Alex has only had it once and it faded after only a friendly few meet ups with his baby brother.
Then thereâs other dreams that are freakishly vivid and they play out like a movie Alex is watching. Thereâs no fuzzy dream fog or the very faint awareness that everything is just a weird figment of his imagination. Itâs stark, as crystal clear as if he was walking through a day in the life of. He sees entire families he doesnât recognise, as well as oneâs he does. He sees Jean of all people walking up to him with a smile and kissing him (he hates those ones, because even though he knows in his dream that itâs Jean and not her he canât get rid of the fear that hits him seeing that face so close to his), and then in another set its Piotr, or Bobby, or Lorna, and the one where Logan is gripping his face ends up with Alex walking around in a freaked out daze for the entire week.Â
Theyâre all disturbing for him, even with funny moments and intriguing moments weaved in, and heâs long since worked out even without Xavierâs intrusive âhelpâ that theyâre not dreams that come from his own mind. Theyâre not even dreams, theyâre memories and theyâre not his. He doesnât want them.
But to cope he calls them recurring dreams, because its easier than admitting heâs more like Lawrence than he wants to be, and he seems to follow entire plot lines with one family for a few intermittent nights over the course of months. Between the real dreams and those, the setting will suddenly change and suddenly his partner is someone new and its the most normal thing in the world that Magneto is the name of a pro-golfer and not a terrorist.Â
Currently his âstory timeâ recurring dreams are following two men, a woman and a group of kids in some retro world he eventually points to being the early 1962 from the calendar he spots one night on the dream wall of his dream room. Heâs had them ever since Christmas, five in total, as sporadic as ever and mixed in with regular dreams and nightmares about Katie being orphaned thanks to the asshole on the end of the threats Alex was sent.
And its in one of those recurring dreams that the other him looks Alex dead in the eye, and Alex snaps awake with a sick feeling prickling over his skin that doesnât really ever go away afterwards.
