It’s snowing in Gotham. It should be BEAUTIFUL, but all Dollface can think about is getting back to their subpar hideout to build a fire and drink themself to sleep. They pull the jacket around themself tighter, shivering against the winter air that blows through the alleyway. In their path, they spot a small shadow, almost mistaking it for a child at first. But then it clicks.

“I’ve seen you around- MARY, right?” Honestly, with how many trips Doll has taken to Arkham at this point, they recognize just about everyone around these parts. Even if those Rogue Gallery snobs don’t want to include them in the fun. Who needs them anyway? Dollface knows they’re better. “Do you need a place to stay or something? I don’t have anything FANCY, but it’s better than staying out here.”

They hum in agreement. London won’t be bored, that much is certain. Only time and their perseverance will determine the rest. That’s perhaps the only POSITIVE attribute of their habit of lingering: a refusal to give up.

Ed feigns an air of disinterest, the intricate patterns on their hands suddenly grabbing their attention. ❛ Are you afraid of THE BAT? ❜

“The BAT?” Doll asks, looking amused. “Please. He’s more fake than all of us put together. At least we don’t HIDE behind masks.” They pull themself up onto a nearby counter, getting comfortable. “He claims to want to save this city, but all he does is throw the same people into the same poorly guarded cells in the hopes that this time, they’ll stay put. He doesn’t have the courage to do what needs to be done- why should I be afraid of a coward?”

update: faceclaim & gender things

The lovely lady featured above is instagram model & influencer VIRGINIA CAMUS, and she is going to be my primary faceclaim for Sage. I’ll use other people to supplement as well as vague aesthetic icons, but Virginia is the main face you’ll see here and in edits.

Some of you may know Dollface as originally an au of another muse of mine, however, I am working on some of the developments which further distinguish them from that character. Most notably, this is coming about in GENDER and in GENDER PRESENTATION. Sage is AMAB, much like the character they originated from, but they identify as femme-androgynous, meaning they are mid-spectrum, but lean exclusively on the feminine side of things. But Sage is fighty and violent and angry, so doesn’t that bring in masculine vibes? Not exactly. The type of violence & anger Sage brings to the table is more akin to a brash and rebellious femininity than it is to a typical masculine-construed anger. More Sleigh Bells and Gotham Sirens in thematics.

They do not dress masculine. They do not accept male pronouns. They aim to specifically present and behave in ways which align with the femininity they personally feel. That is, while Sage’s femininity is not soft or delicate in stereotypical ways, it is identifiably feminine in its own right. The fact that they are AMAB does not change this. Sage can be assumed cis-female due to the lengths they go to with their presentation, and is sometimes also assumed to be a trans woman when the concept of their anatomy does come up. Either is fine with them. Sage prefers THEY/THEM or SHE/HER pronouns.

          “I’ll just dress up as you and take your test. Never mind the height difference.” Bold words for someone who openly admits to not being very good at physics. At least if you took the test for them, they’d pass. It’s harder to fake your way into taking someone else’s physics final than it is to fake your way into taking their SAT, funnily enough, so you probably wouldn’t get too far if you actually tried that. “Nah. Maybe we can just take a hit out on ‘im. Hitmen’re pretty cheap ‘round here.” Impossible to tell whether that’s a joke or not…

“I think you could pull off my look pretty well- just be careful with the SKIRTS. You’re so tall they may not meet dress code for you,” they joke. Sage’s battle with the dress code is an ongoing one, initiated in freshman year when they first decided to COME OUT and start dressing how they pleased. The struggle is real. “Honestly? I think I’d rather we tried for a hitman. At least no one after us would have to deal with his bullshit either.” They’re only KIND OF kidding. They sit up again. “This is all so tedious, though. Are you ready for a break? I think I need one.”

modern vintage au

(based on the rockabilly Batman sketches by Denis Medri) All of the standard main verse elements apply, but with the added twist of the modern vintage look. Dollface's appearance is largely inspired by Bettie Page and the early bondage pinup girls, combined with and masked by a deceptively innocent housewife vibe. Vintage lingerie with long lines and intricate details wrapped in the bright floral package of a well-groomed and well-behaved homemaker. Even in a city this full of colourful characters, Dollface makes an effort to stand out.

gotham verse

SEASON ONE

This verse follows most of the usual progression; season one ends with London's apartment being raided and charges being brought against them for assisting criminals.

SEASON TWO

Sage's lawyer gets them off the charges; they don't end up confined at Blackgate at all here. But it doesn't stop people from being the same judgmental assholes. No one trusts them much anymore. And then, when they start killing people, they're just as untraceable and smart about it. With the evidence falsified though, they're thrown in Arkham as per usual, and they catch the eye of Hugo Strange. While they don't get dragged into becoming one of his experiments, that's mostly due to sheer dumb luck and timing. When Strange is arrested, London is one of the inmates to make their escape.

SEASON THREE +

Free and roaming in the wake of the events of Strange’s arrest, London gives into the urges which had begun to plague them in Arkham. It’s at this point that they acquire the trademark doll joint tattoos and take on their new alias, Dollface. At first Dollface is just one of many escaped Arkham inmates, committing small crimes and mostly getting away with whatever they want while the GCPD focus on bigger problems.

Takes place in the timeline point where they've been confined at Belle Reve, and thus they're closer to 40 years old by now. Waller is of the opinion that their prolonged history of violence, and the seeming incapability to keep them confined at Arkham renders them a prime candidate for Belle Reve.

nolan verse

Applicable to the Nolan Batman universe and all muses within it. This verse takes place after London's five years at Blackgate, but before their incarceration at Arkham. They are still a member of Gotham's society, but largely by default and because no one really wants to cause a scene. People distrust and whisper rumors, which only intensify as people around them are found dead in increasing numbers.

Dollface deals in revenge and vengeance. They run an underground operation, somewhat like a P.I., that takes tips and clients. If someone hurt you, Doll will track them down, will find the evidence, and will ensure that they pay for what they've done. Doll sometimes takes on cases without provocation or a client- if they hear about the details in the news, or they hear a rumor, they'll investigate.

They're angry at the world, they want to hurt people the way they've been hurt. But enough of their core morals remain intact that they reserve their violence and their venom for people whom they feel undoubtedly deserve it. With these people often being in 'good standing' with the rest of Gotham, the GCPD is happy to label them a thug and a volatile murderer.

STATE OF HEALTH

Sage suffers from lingering affects of past drug use, persistent insomnia, and occasional migraines. Due to past trauma, they also regularly deal with mild psychosis, manifested as paranoia. They are known to be particularly masochistic, have a low regard for their own safety and survival, and deal with the daily effects of gender dysphoria.

CRIMINAL RECORD

Sage has been charged with the following: 1) possession of illicit substances, 2) aiding & abetting known criminals, 3) multiple counts assault, 4) multiple counts theft, 5) multiple counts murder. They initially served five years of a ten year sentence at Blackgate for the first 2 charges, and were released early on good behavior. Shortly after this, they were charged with their first murder, and sentenced to life at Arkham. It was after their first escape from the facility that they took on their new persona, and their crimes dramatically increased.

APPLICABLE SKILLS

Considerable knowledge of chemistry (specifically narcotics and poisons); photographic memory used in evidence-gathering to memorizing routines while tracking targets, and catalog expert medical/anatomical knowledge for use in hand-to-hand combat; extremely observant and perceptive. High pain tolerance.

QUIRKS & BEHAVIOR

Unabashedly and openly genderqueer in their attire choices; several tattoos including two full sleeves, and ones that make all of their joints appear to be doll-like, resembling those of a porcelain ball-jointed doll; tendency toward flirtation and dramatics.

AESTHETICS

Part glam-punk drag, part 80s club kid, performativity is extremely important. Doll motifs are recurring, but with a harder edge to them, drawing from their investment in punk music subculture. They often show a lot of skin and sometimes opt for elaborate makeup.

CRIMINAL MOTIVATION

Years of commodification and manipulation by both a trusted family member and the industry they devoted their life to. Dollface is anti-traditionalism, anti-conservatism, anti-elite assholes who abuse their power, especially to harm gender minorities. They primarily target, torture, and kill individuals who perpetrate abuse (especially sexual) and skirt legal punishment for their actions.
