Helen Pynor 'The Accidental Primate' at Dominik Mersch Gallery, 20.11 - 17.12.2014

Helen Pynor’s new work transverses the thematic currents of art – science collaborations and ‘Human – Animal studies’ in contemporary art, making this exhibition astutely avant-garde.

With credentials in the Sydney Powerhouse, Science Gallery Dublin, National Centre for Contemporary Arts Russia, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts and The Wellcome Collection London, her new work considers human-bat relations and how the accidents of evolution create improbable solutions to the problem of survival.

The exhibition will be opened by esteemed curator and writer, Bec Dean.

DOMINIK MERSCH GALLERY is pleased announce its new initiative the DOMINIK MERSCH GALLERY CURATOR AWARD. The award is focused towards aspiring and emerging curators. It invites these curators to explore their own perceptions and expertise in response to the brief provided by DMG. The award is aimed to give the curators of the future a platform for their early work and the opportunity to experience first-hand the realities of curating and realising an exhibition in a commercial gallery setting. DMG urges entering curators to explore the galleries existing idiosyncratic themes while encouraging them to express their unique narrative style.

The 2015 applications will be judged by a panel including Dominik Mersch, Gallery Director and Glenn Barkley, independent curator and artistic director of Art Month 2015. The winning curator will be given a show in the DMG Exhibition Calendar 2015. The curator will work with the gallery team to realise the proposed exhibition concept.
