HIMMY PLSSS ASK ANDREW ABOUT VOLUNTEERING WORK I THINK YOUD LIKE JT!!!!

I DID!!!! I saw your ask this morning and went and asked Andy about it and guess what? He let me tag along today!!! It's been so fun, I met so many people and I got to give them goodies bags with stuff like toothbrushes and Gatorade powders and bandages!! There were a few kids as well, and they were really nice to me as well. I liked it a lot.

Also, I dunno if it's weird to say this, but some of the moms and dads coming to us with their kids tagging along reminded me of going to the food bank with Nay when I was little. It felt... nice? I live with Dad now, he has a really big house, and I know it's supposed to be nicer but it doesn't feel nicer sometimes. So I guess it's nice to see people like me again.

How’s the studying goin?

Not bad. I'm taking just one summer course, so it's been pretty easy on me.

They bump into her a couple of times the coming weeks. Either she’s just finishing up when he’s passing through, or she drops in just when he’s almost finished with a fight, or she calls out to him from across a rooftop before continuing in the other direction. They genuinely seem fond of Andrew, strangely enough. She’s generally willing to help out whenever, and is similarly grateful when Andrew agrees to fight by her side. They bring Andrew to some of the locations the bald man told them about, to deal with the gang’s stragglers and their ‘produce’, but she seemingly mostly takes care of it herself.

One night, though, when Andrew gets the drop on a group of criminals, he’s met with a disconcerting sight. Zorro is cornered against a wall, sword up, but she’s clutching her side and seems to be really hurt. Their fighting style depends on being quick and stealthy, so being cornered by three grunts seems bad. Two bodies litter the ground between them, but Zorro seems to be losing.

(For the most part, Andrew is happy with what he's calling 'peaceful coexistence'. He's happy to work alone most of the time, aside from the occasional help from Zorro, or lending them a hand once in a while. The chances to deal with a drug smuggling ring is always welcome, too. They're capable; they can handle whatever they want to stick their nose into.)

(So yes, he's surprised to see Zorro cornered and injured, struggling to fight off the group of criminals.)

(Silently, he approaches slowly, announcing his presence only when he pounces onto one of the three and downing them quickly with a stab to the gut, before he turns the attention to the other two, Astor now dripping with blood in his hand.)

(Killing wasn't something easy per se. It looks easy on the big screen, yes, but it's all fake. Movies don't mention the distinctly unpleasant squelch of your boots walking through drying blood, or how the meat in your fridge can remind you of entrails on the floor. It only gets easier, if you get used to it. And most people don't get to the point where they can get used to it.)

(Climbing into the old flat where Mickie used to live, though, is easy. Swapping the man's usual beers with something laced is easy. And watching the man slumbers in a drunken haze as the TV drones on, empty cans littering the floor, rolling into the room that used to belong to Mickie? Only made Andrew's job easier.)

(In a day or two, the man will die. They will rule it as cardiac arrest, or if the man is very unlucky, asphyxiation as he chokes on his own vomit. There will be no investigation, because the police doesn't need to look into the case of a man found dead with beer bottles and the occasional spirit lying around him.)

(It's incredibly easy to kill someone. The man makes it easy for Andrew.)
