Some more MedievalOmens! This was very much inspired by @doctorscienceknows-blog wonderful comment on my previous medieval work
Aziraphale is the most character ever. No one’s doing it like him. (insp)
When Aziraphale says, “the southern pansy,” it is a defining character moment for him. It is proof that he is not obliviously pinging everyone’s gaydar. He is making an active choice to appear as gay as possible, and is proud to do so. He intentionally chose to live in the gayborhood, and go to discrete gentlemen’s clubs, because he identifies strongly with gay culture. In this essay I will
The more I think about the last minutes the more I’m sure Crowley was saying goodbye from the minute Aziraphale told him he’d said yes to Heaven. He doesn’t confess his love like he’s hopeful, he confesses it like a eulogy. He doesn’t kiss him to make a beginning, he kisses him to seal the end. He watches him go like it’s the last time.
Crowley knows Heaven. He knows they’ll either make Aziraphale just like them, or they’ll destroy him. Either way I think he is sure he’s seen his angel for the last time.
@theniftycat you’re right, and he’s right, and that’s why he’s been fighting so hard all along not to disrupt it — he’s so afraid of losing what they have. He lost everything when he lost Heaven. He can’t forget how completely it was taken. He’s always on guard to keep what good he has hidden, and he’s always trying to keep Aziraphale soft and safe. He loves him as he is — and that is beautiful. But he doesn’t tell him what he needs to know — doesn’t tell Aziraphale how awful Heaven’s trial was, for fear of crushing him. He doesn’t tell him he’s living in his car, for fear of crowding him. He doesn’t tell him he loves him for fear of pressing him! But Aziraphale needs to know! He needs to change! They both do! “Nothing lasts forever” — that was right. If they’re ever going to find their way to their quiet place in Sussex they’ll have to let their lives change. That’s the only way to get back what was best about them, after it all.
I will say it again!!! Crowley's line at the end of the second episode is the saddest line in the show!
"Then nothing has to change, does it?"
Oh Crowley, it has to change if you want to really be "an us." The flip side of "nothing lasts forever" is "something will be different." And that's not always bad.
That. Crowley in the book may be an optimist, but this Crowley is more of a traumatized minimalist. He won’t ask for more explosions of light across endless skies; he’ll take what he can get (a night’s company, a good drink, a quick and furtive mercy), and he’ll be grateful for it.
He needs a maximalist, indulgent, determined angel to insist that it’s not enough, that he deserves to be handed back Heaven itself. To have it all remade for him. And if it turns out Heaven isn’t capable of being what he deserves, he’ll give him the world — if the world is one small cottage stuffed full of plants and books, with a full view of stars above it, and one angel’s whole heart.
The kiss that we deserved

What if... in Season 3 Aziraphale finds out what it's like to be Crowley's friend.
But, just his friend.
Sure, he'll help Aziraphale save the world and it feels like it did at Armageddon't The First. Except, then he doesn't invite him back for a nightcap and somewhere to stay.
And then Aziraphale calls to tell him about something he needs help with, and yes he answers, but he doesn't come over. Instead, he gives him advice over the phone and hangs up.
Maybe Aziraphale invites him out to dinner or to a show, and he turns him down because "he's just not feeling being around people tonight" but he hopes the angel has fun.
And then they finally do decide to get together, and they have dinner and it's nice, but something feels off. Then Aziraphale orders dessert, and Crowley excuses himself and leaves, and Aziraphale finds out that tiramisu doesn't taste as good when Crowley isn't watching him eat it.
Because Crowley needs to set boundaries to keep his heart safe.
And Aziraphale discovers they were never just friends. And now he hates it.
