I think there's a certain type of positive feedback loop that goes with posting art. You post it, people engage, wish for more, so you make more. Repeat.

People always say to make it for yourself, but when you fight past all the other mental shit you have going on to make and then post art only for only your closest friends to care, it's hard to keep making more.

If you like the art someone posted, tell them. Don't just click the ♥️ and return to high speed scrolling. Even if it's just the classic "asjkfhaglkh".

It's also Pride month 👀

While discussing the different gems in Stardew Valley, a friend lamented the amethyst design. Specifically the fact that it's so round, not very shiny looking, and doesn't really read as an amethyst.

Having a little amethyst geode chunk of my own, I thought I'd take a stab at redoing it. I used the same palette as the original for the crystals, and came up with my own for the rock part. I took some inspiration from the other in-game artifacts that are a bit geode adjacent, but I think it stands out enough to not be mistaken for an artifact instead.

I've spent a lot of time working with circles and other people's pre-made shapes (see: the previous ruby), so I figured it was time to make one all on my own.

I originally set out to make something akin to a peridot, still more-or-less staying in line with how things look in Stardew Valley; size, number of colours, etc. It's tough to make something look more transparent at that size with what I had to work with, but regardless of what I intended to make I still think it looks cool. It was my first time colour blocking something purely from my imagination, and I'm satisfied with it.

And on the right is an attempt at a pearl. It turns out they're surprisingly bland looking in real life. 😹

"You could just use ai" yeah well I could also just kill you.

While I really enjoy the art style in Stardew Valley, one thing that always gnawed at me was the ruby sprite. While it does read as what it is, the lighting and stuff always felt off to me.

So I figured that while I was using Stardew stuff as reference to practice, I'd re-do it in a way that I thought made more sense. Left is the original, and the right is my remake. What do you think?

As practice I thought it would be fun to make/re-design rings for Stardew Valley, naturally as close to the original design as possible.

The first is a big glow ring (imagine the glow ring but bigger), the reaper ring (vampire + soul sapper) and the prismatic ring (increases drop rate of prismatic shards from monsters? maybe?).

I'm happy with how they turned out, especially the middle one. It's the one I did almost entirely from my own imagination, since the other two riffed off something else that already exists (glow ring and prismatic shard).

In case you missed them, I posted some little 'doodles' here recently. I've also included a little orb that I hadn't posted yet. What flavour do you think it is?

Lately I've been trying to do a lot of learning, mainly the Why of certain pixel art techniques. As a result, I haven't made much new stuff, and the stuff I have made has been a sort of practice test of the things I learned.

Eventually I'll have something actually new to post. 🤭
