Drug addiction is so dangerous because nobody wants to talk about it or recognize it as a real issue, so many people make it seem like only dirty homeless criminals are drug addicts. Nobody wants to talk about the 15 year old with an anxiety disorder and a fucked up psychiatrist getting her hooked on benzos that she can’t stop taking unless she is ok with having random seizures and extreme panic attacks. Nobody wants to talk about the 35 year old businessman who recently had back surgery and now can’t stop taking his pain medication without cold sweats, puking, RLS, and extreme depression. Nobody wants to talk about them because then they’d have to recognize that it really is an issue and they’d be forced to care about the human beings they used to use to step on to make themselves feel better about themselves. Nobody wants to talk about it until it gets to the point of no return and by then it’s “Just their fault” and there’s “no use helping a drug addict /:” odds are you know someone who is now, or will at some point in their life struggle with addiction. Nobody pops a pill once and is hooked, that’s a toxic myth people push so they can take the responsibility off themselves to help their loved ones. It takes MONTHS sometimes YEARS of continuous drug consumption to get a full fledged addiction so what the fuck are you doing waiting for it to get to the point of dependency? Start fucking talking about it. It’s an illness, help people.
