Dorothy Dandridge broke down racial barriers and set the path for black actresses. She became the first black female to be nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Actress category for her role in Carmen Jones, and the first black woman to grace the cover of Life magazine. However, society was unable to fully appreciate Dorothy during her lifetime simply because of the color of her skin. A legend in every sense of the word, Dorothy Dandridge will forever remain the epitome of beauty and grace.

The lovely Lena Horne tribute page tagged me to this photo of Dorothy Dandridge that appeared in a 1948 issue of Ebony magazine.
The caption reads:
“Dorothy Dandridge, petite and popular movie actress, has furnished a six-room Los Angeles home with ultra-modern functional furniture. The wife of the noted dancer, Harold of the Nicholas Brothers, spent almost six months away from California last year. She’s now building a post-war home with plate glass walls to cost $35,000.”

I'm reading the biography by Donald Bogle & they mentioned Dorothy having a huge crush on some big 50's actor... do you have any clue as to who they were referring to? And another thing that bothered me was the fact that they kept saying that Jack was "very handsome"... I'm looking at pictures and I just don't see it... I love the blog by the way! :D
LOL! Jackass Denison was far from handsome in my opinion.
And unfortunately I’m not sure about the crush on the 50s star. I know Dottie had a crush on the oh so handsome Mr. Harry Belafonte, but I’m not sure who else she was crushing on. I’ll have to go back through Mr. Bogle’s book, because at this moment I don’t remember that being mentioned. Sorry!
Hello! Thank you for such a beautiful site, of such a beautiful soul. What an incredible soul Dottie is. You are very kind and generous to do this site. I just wanted to ask you, if you are aware if any interviews of Dorothy exist on the Internet, whether in written form or (preferably) raw video - and if so, could you please link to them. I cannot find any... I'm sure they're very rare. I would much appreciate your help here... Thank you!!!
Thank you for your kind words. My apologies for such a late response, but I believe I a answered your question via email. Did I? If not, just message me again. 😊
Is there a facebook page for Ms. Dandridge? I can't seem to find one.
I don’t have any sort of Facebook account, so I don’t know if there is an official Dorothy Dandridge page. However, I’ve been told that there are a number of tribute pages to Dottie on there.
"She [Dorothy Dandridge] was a pioneer, and a hero to the black community. She helped open doors and pave the way for all of us, not just in the film industry but in society. I wanted her to be remembered for how she lived and the contribution that she made. She was a pioneer, and a hero to the black community." - Halle Berry
