Enjoying this lovely Bonus Skor EP.
A remix i did for Belfast friends Not Squares.... It's a lovely upbeat original so i controversially made things more downtempo but swingy.....and i got to play around with some vocal tranposition fun.
Another little clockwork instrumental...Romaji (Romanized Japanese). Very much hoping to find a Japanese home for the album, this may make an EP after or follow up. I bought the pickup sticks in a charity shop and use them a lot for percussion tracks. Woodwind, pianos and moogs also to the fore in this one.
Super Early Punch Card Speech Synth: Bell Telephone Labs - Computer Speech [1963] Nice sampleable narration......
A little bit of 8 bit synth and Hammered Strings......i may even manage a whole Christmas EP this year, hence the 3 months early. It certainly feels wintry enough tonight. For anyone who may already be thinking of a Christmas compilation or mixtape....
Listening Whilst Cooking:
Finishing lots of demo pieces as possible album tracks. This has some playful Brubeck meets Reich-ish pianos, woodwind, harmonium, percussion, chopped up guitars and a wee bit of arpegiated Moog here and there.....i quite like this one. Closest in feel to Nautical by Nature of the songs released so far. The name comes from a sign i noticed at San Fransisco airport..... Finished for now....may call for some birdsong at some point.
This revolves around a little piano melody.....it started out as a house riff and ended up more pastoral meets 50s Enoch Light style instrumental but hopefully works that way. The washes of sound are slowed down pianos and guitars stretched and effected. There's also a little melotron, cello, viola and woodwind in there with the choppped up guitars.
Another clockwork instrumental that may make the album. This took the progression from a little opening tune for Klang that i didn't know what to do with and added moogs and cut up guitars, woodwind and pianos. Inspired by a Delia Derbyshire tune of the same name....
The remix album of Jonnie Common's debut 'Master Of None' was released by Red Deer Club as a limited run of screenprints by artist David Galletly in November 2011. These are all long gone, so it's time to let the dog off the lead. This wonderous album features remixes from Geese, Dems, FOUND, Ben Butler & Mousepad, OnTheFly, River Of Slime, grnr, A La Fu + Loomid, Miaoux Miaoux and The Japanese War Effort remix. Thanks to all who contributed to Hair Of The Dog, you can grab your FREE download via our shop. ENJOY. Video by David Galletly.
Isan and Hardy Tree remixes of Darren Hayman's Lido project...free download.
An updated version of "Life in a Northern Town"...... I posted this a while ago in Demo form and here's a more finished version. Snippets of conversation from a Cleethorpes charity shop and an instrumental with strings and some brass in there now too. Probably thinking about how lives intersect with others in mundane ways and places. Charity shops allow you to cross paths with other lives objects too, I wonder how Darren and Julie got on...... Bit I never did buy those Farah Slacks....
Some pictures from Summer '12 so far....
Another new album track.....more downtempo with an intro which will have somefresh found sound or possibly a few samples of cylinders that i'd like to use to connect everything.... Chopped guitars, melodica, accordion, cello, woodwind and i've used the Tenori On to control a plucked piano and i've succumbed to using Midi on the Moog. Started this one yesterday so we'll see how it feels in a couple of days but good to post things as they're sketched out.....
Another album track, rough mix. I tried to find the original parts but could only find a rough demo which weaves in and out where i've lost bits or they were to fiddly to transcribe. You see them admit to that on VH1 behind the music, so it must be alright. Working title refers to Holmpton in East Yorkshire,...and it had a Yorkshire Colliery Brass style arrangement pencilled in for the end which has now changed a bit. Holmpton is the site of a cold war bunker and i think this started life around the time i went on their Halloween Ghost tour. I'm fairly sure there used to be a sign directing to the "secret" nuclear bunker: http://www.rafholmpton.co.uk/14.html
Getting back into the swing of things musical. Trying to finish some of the smaller tunes i have lying around, then maybe look at how they all fit together for some sort of collection. Which usually means new tunes emerge as well.....this is one of them. A little clockwork instrumental. Shrodinger's PIano next or perhaps a couple of tunes from A Charlie Brown Christmas...x
Albert always puts it much better than I....Happy New Year everyone. x
