While I have been focusing on collecting bird cards for a while now, I only just decided to make a sideblog for it. So, there's some catching up to do! Current collection summary under the cut.
As of today, my box columns are City Pigeon, Holo City Pigeon (+ card sleeves), other MTG (sorted by art cards, regular cards, tokens, and then artist proofs), and then other TCG and graded cards (mostly Pokemon, but also cookiedove's bird of the month and some miscellaneous things).
I track my MTG cards in the Delver Lens app. I mostly track so I don't buy duplicate birds at my LCS, but it's also cool to marvel at the Maha spike right after I got mine at $7. Here's my top 5 cards! Fun fact: I got Jeweled Bird for $0.50.
If I really love a card and I can get a graded one for about the same price as raw, I'll do it. I play Magic, too, but I just like seeing my favs in a fancy box sometimes. While I do have more Pokemon birds, all of my graded Pokemon cards worth over $50 are in a safer storage space.
I love connecting with artists and buying proofs, and have been gifted some as well. As City Pigeon is a Universes Beyond card, it sadly has no artist proofs. However, David Szabo is incredibly kind, and will be signing some of my pigeons towards the end of this year. As of today, I own proofs from Ryan Pancoast, Steven Belledin, Aaron Miller, Allen Douglas, Chris Rahn, and Terese Nielsen.
Yes, Scalding Salamander isn't a bird. However, it looks just like my salamander, so it stays in this place of honor.
To finish off this first post, some pigeon numbers:
739 copies of City Pigeon
From here on, I'll be updating with new acquisitions!
