watched this and i need to ramble about it because i'm so middle of the road about it.

i want to preface this by saying that i don't think it's a BAD movie. it has a lot of good parts to it that i enjoy, but it just feels really bogged down by the parts that i don't. i went in knowing that this got insanely mixed reviews, but i was excited for it regardless because the concept is really interesting to me! sound based horror can be so, SO good, and i do think a lot of the sound design in this movie elevates it. and then it kind of just immediately drops as soon as one or both of the podcast hosts says "let's get back into character". i know you have to have a certain level of a 'persona' for content creation but those lines were just so goofy to me it kind of took me out of it lol.

there's a lot of religious imagery that i personally felt like went nowhere. it takes until the last 5 or 10 minutes for there to be any outward feeling of religious guilt from the main character, otherwise the most that's done on that front is like. her hiding a religious icon in a drawer or closet. idk i just felt like you could've done more w/ it lol. most you seem to get prior to the ending part is her finding out she's pregnant, and despite actively seeming like she'd ebb on the side of getting rid of it, she decides to keep it and tells her comatose mother that she wants to name it mary ?? i don't fucking know man

as for the actual meat of what their podcast is; it's just nursery rhymes backwards: the movie. very reminiscent of different rock songs being played backward and you being able to hear "HAIL SATAN" 6 times in a row each verse. those sorts of things were scary to me as a kid, not so much as a 26 year old.

i just don't know man. like it's a passable movie, i might rewatch it again and my opinions may change, Who Can Say. again, there were things i enjoyed about it! i like sound based horror and i do like more subtle scares of the 'quick glimpse of something' variety. it's just Decent. it's fine. i just think a lot of things could've been done Better . WHATEVER
