We had a lot of fun this year sharing information about some of the ways we celebrate Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) in Mexico. And it was amazing being able to see the first literary calaveritas and even catrinas the phandom has created (as far as we know).

I am not Mexican but part of this event was teaching people about Mexican culture so we can all grow in appreciation and understanding of each other. 💖
@summerssixecho explained that Calaveritas are poems that are written about Death coming to take people.
Sometimes death succeeds in reaping a soul, sometimes death fails.
Summers said that people sometimes write these about politicians they wished would kick the bucket, or family members that they want death to fail taking.
So for the event we were supposed to pick a character from Danny Phantom to do this for.

Ever since I saw @letswonderspirit do their take on Skeleton Danny, I wanted to do my own inspired by calaveras and/or calacas
1) General calavera design and notes
The flowers
Though they are the same color as marigolds, they are actually inspired by yellow jasmines. As they are native to Mexico and I wanted apart of Danny's design to connect to Jazz.

It represents death

This color represents death as well
2) What if Danny had flame hair instead of regular hair like Lewis Pepper and/or Ghost Rider 🤔
3) Playing around with ghost tail concepts (flame and skeletal)
La Catrina was walking, very pretty and good looking, checking her list for who was going to perish.
‘Jack Fenton’ it read, a big man who she was going to take out.
In the middle of the kitchen, working hard, was the one who was called a madman.
“Your time has come.“ Said la Catrina. "I’m not going to wait a long time, so hurry up and finish.”
"Ghost!” Jack Fenton exclaimed. “Disgusting ectoplasmic entity, try my bazooka!” And without further ado, he shot Death.

Because, in truth, it did not affect her that when they escaped her they commited mischief, because they could not defeat her, they were not on her level, since sooner or later everyone would go to their grave.

Summary: A Calaverita (or Día de Muertos traditional poem), featuring Death seeking the boy who’s not entirely dead.
Notes: Here’s my humble take on the three main levels often shown in an ofrenda (Afterlife / Earth / Underworld).
You can find both the Spanish (which I wrote first) and English (right after the Spanish version) versions below the cut. Please consider they are not word-for-word translations hehe
I’ve some things to say before you read this. First of all, I’ve never been good with rhymes. Second of all, I had never tried to rhyme in english, and third of all, my brain got fried and the only thing that survived was the opening song of the show… don’t judge me, this was more a challenge than what I had expected! Also, Feliz día de muertos! In case you didn’t know I’m mexican, so I’m currently looking forward for pan de muerto (dead bread? it’s not made out of dead people, just so you know) and some hot chocolate, the offering is ready and I have some relatives that should visit later (if you know what I mean).
I made this in spanish first and then translated it, so it may be weird in english, you may have to scroll a bit, but I really hope you like it!
Elsewhereness: Elsewhereness es un lugar donde el miedo, dolor y miseria no existen. Todos los fantasmas quieren estar ahí, pero ninguno sabe dónde queda. Incluso los fantasmas malignos buscan este paraíso.
La Tierra es un planeta rodeado por espacio exterior y hogar de una variedad de especies, más notablemente la humana.
El planeta tiene casi cinco mil millones de años de antigüedad y es el tercer planeta orbitando el Sol en el sistema solar. El término “Tierra” también puede referirse al mundo humano como tal.
La tierra sirve como el “lado opuesto” de la Zona Fantasma, la dimensión donde residen los fantasmas.
La Zona Fantasma es una dimensión paralela al reino humano que es el hogar de todos los fantasmas.
La Zona Fantasma coexiste con la Tierra; son los así llamados “dos lados de la misma moneda” el uno del otro. Lo que sea que le pase a un mundo también afecta al otro mundo de alguna forma.
Al principio del evento de Día de (Medio) Muertos, la bandita de @dp-medio-muertos y yo queríamos hacer tres niveles de fanfic, arte, calaverita, etc, usando el formato de reblogueos de tumblr. A medida que lo fuimos desarrollando… no se dio. Pero este era el primero que hice, desempolvando mis habilidades de rimas.
Queríamos usar los tres niveles que representa el altar de tres pisos, Cielo, Tierra e Inframundo, y adaptarlo a Danny Phantom, con la información que Elmer “Butch” Harman dio sobre el “Elsewhere”, tomamos el Cielo, la Tierra es… la Tierra, y la Zona Fantasma quedó como el Inframundo (no exactamente el Infierno… pero tampoco el Cielo, ¿saben?).
Y este “fic” es el resultado de que me pusiera a pensar en ello.
Elsewhereness: The Elsewhereness is a place where all fear, pain, and misery don’t exist. Every ghost wants to be there, but no ghost knows where it is. Even evil ghosts seek this paradise.

He didn’t have to run away, he didn’t have to hide. At last he could sleep, this rest he must deserve!
But closing my eyes, in what seemed like the end, Danny Fenton realized that something was wrong…
Earthis a planet surrounded by outer space and home to a variety of species, most notably humans.
The planet is nearly 5 billion years old and it is the third planet orbiting the Sun in the solar system. The term “Earth” can also be used to refer to the human world as a whole.
Earth serves as the “flip side” to the Ghost Zone, the dimension where ghosts reside.

A disoriented dead boy, who had just resurrected, found himself lying on the ground in his living room.
“I don’t know what happened, but I know where to go!” And after his ring flashed, to the lab he let himself sink.
There he found the portal, emanating its ethereal green, and he crossed that threshold without a joke, for this was serious.
Summary: The Ghost Zone is a parallel dimension to the human realm that is home to all ghosts.
The Ghost Zone coexists with Earth; they are the proverbial “two sides of the same coin” to each other. Anything that happens to one world also affects the other world in some way.

The ghost boy was looking for his opponent, and surrounded by green flames he met him head-on.
Dressed all in white, somewhat human-looking, the Fright Knight… didn’t look like a villain.
Though he banished ghosts with his sword of pure light, there was no malice in his gaze, but no sweetness either.
“What happened to you?” Phantom, horrified, asked. And when his enemy turned to him, he found a familiar face.
At the beginning of the Day of the (Half) Dead event, the gang at @dp-medio-muertos and I wanted to make three levels of fanfic, art, calaverita, etc, using the reblog format on tumblr. As we started developing it… it didn’t pan out. But this is the first one I made, undusting my rhyming skills (in Spanish).
We wanted to use the three levels that the altar represents, Heaven, Earth and Underworld, and adapt it for Danny Phantom, with the information that Elmer “Butch” Hartman gave about “Elsewhereness”, which we took as Heaven, Earth is… Earth, and the Ghost Zone as the Underworld (not quite Hell… but neither Heaven, you know?).
And this “fic” is the result of me thinking about it.
