Fact check: Did Labor win the popular vote?
Fact check: Did Labor win the popular vote?
I’ve seen a few tweets circulating on Twitter implying that Labor won more votes than the Liberals.
Before this fake news becomes embedded as fact, it should be called out as untrue.
In every state but Queensland, the Liberals are known as the Liberal Party. But in Queensland, they are known as the Liberal National Party (because the Liberals and Nationals merged into one party in that state).

It can be tricky knowing left from right in the ALP This week's column for TND - because I believe it's important to understand that factions within both major parties influence leadership AND policies.

Election 2019: Why the press should never, ever let politicians bury them with blather In my weekend column for The New Daily, I look at the ways politicians 'manage' the media and ponder whether this is the election that the media starts pushing back.
Election 2019: Why early voters and school holidays could be the deciding factor My weekend column for The New Daily.
The Coalition finds itself caught in One Nation’s web of live-fire lunacy - but wait, there's a silver lining My weekend column for The New Daily.
Christchurch slaughter has Morrison reeling, the Coalition in a bind and Sky News still smearing Muslims My weekend column for The New Daily.

This is just a quick post to drum up support for the AusVotes group blog that I’m running again for this federal election.
Those of you who’ve been following my personal blog for a long time would be familiar with similar group blogs that I ran in 2013 and 2016. The first one even won an award!
The AusVotes blogs have always been popular because they present a range of voices and discuss…

Scared Liberals are taking the ‘coal’ out of Coalition This week's column for The New Daily.
Women voters won’t trust a party that doesn’t trust women Here's my weekend column for The New Daily.
(Moderate) Liberal heavyweights desert the sinking ship Here's my weekend column for The New Daily, looking at the exodus of senior Liberal moderates from the Coalition Government.
Why I wrote a book about Liberal women
Why I wrote a book about Liberal women
Did I mention I have a book coming out this week? For those of you who aren’t on social media, this may actually be real news. So I thought I’d do a quick blog post to tell you all about it.
The book, On Merit, is about the Liberal Party’s “women problem”, but it also explores why Liberal women continue to perpetuate the myth that they should only progress within the party “on merit”.
I’ve set up…

How to survive Twitter
How to survive Twitter
Christmas Day this year marked the ten-year anniversary since I first joined Twitter. In many senses, that single act changed the course of my life.
If it wasn’t for Twitter, I’d probably still be working as a highly-paid corporate shill. Instead, I’m scratching out an existence as a writer in the gig economy. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Polite and not-so-polite exchanges on Twitter…

I have a book coming out in February 2019!
In February 2019, probably just before Australia lurches into the long-awaited federal election campaign, I’ll have a book coming out on the Liberal Party’s ‘women problem’.
On Meritis part of MUP’s Little Book series. It starts with the emergence of the ‘red shoe brigade’ following the Liberals’ recent leadership troubles, and looks at the use and abuse of the merit myth to suppress Liberal…
