Okay that would be a funny mistake, but it *does* imply Anon did do their research. So credit where credit is due.
I love visiting people who have some kind of pet reptile because they're always like "would you like to hold the reptile" and I'm like "of course I would" and then the rest of the conversation happens with me just holding a random reptile and the reptile Has No Feelings about the situation. They always just sit there, probably vaguely wishing to return to their heat lamp but clearly exuding an energy of This Might As Well Happen. and then I put it back in its enclosure and go home and the reptile very clearly has no strong feelings about the situation.

not to talk about the hp show but it's wild to me that jkr was like publicly and explicitly like "the last set of child actors have denounced my bigotry, I want a new set of child actors to groom. create a television program so I can have new children" and everyone was just like ok joanne! :) here's your new children! :)
Leaving aside the weird framing of using the term grooming, now that we're past the point of no return enough that we've got trailers out, the new set have the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever and denounce her bigotry where she can't back out or just scrap everything thus forcing her to be around their views enough that they might deradicalize her
I mean, she is explicitly upset that the last cast of kids broke away from her shit because she 'made them what they are' and wants to like. start fresh with a new batch of children. so she is hoping the outcome here will be that these kids follow her ideology into adulthood, bc of the outsized role she knows she is going to have in their lives. that's grooming. like that's a textbook case of grooming. grooming doesn't have to be sexual, sexual grooming is just one type of grooming. using your power and influence to try to mold kids' minds so that they agree with your ideology is also grooming.

i once referred to the purpose of veggietales as 'indoctrination of children,' and despite the fact that the most literal and original definition of that word is 'train into christians with correct beliefs' people got really offended.
this is a relatively recent phenomenon (indoctrinate was broadly considered a morally neutral word up to like the 60s) so I'd argue we are seeing some kind of ongoing culture shift around conceptualizing the rights of children.

where we should land is that society begins to agree there is a difference between teaching children basic prosocial values that will help them function positively in the world and manipulating them to adopt specific belief systems (religious, political, etc) on the basis of adults feeling entitled to the comfort of believing that their ideal society will persist beyond their own lifespans
but that probably won't happen
i was at an event last night in california and i went to the bar to order wine bc wine was like, a thing, and i looked at the menu and saw i was completely out of my depth bc idk any wine names, so i turned to my right and there was a man in a gorgeous suit standing at the bar beside me and i said “do you know anything about wine?” and he said “a little, yes!” i told him i liked white and dry wines and asked if he’d order for me. he asked the server for two glasses and had one poured for each of us and then he clinked his glass on mine but he didn’t take a sip, he just watched me taste mine and then he asked what i thought and i said “it’s pretty good, but like i said, i wouldn’t know.” he laughed and told me to have a good time & i walked away. fifteen minutes later i found out he’s the winemaker.
