dragon-eldrit:

Stepping into the room, the sand dragon gave him a soft smile. She was more acclimated to him now and while she loved permanently living with her mate, there was a part of her that missed the familiarity of her previous home with the dragon elders. “Thank you,” she murmured and cleared her throat, suddenly feeling very self conscious and even nervous. Maybe all of this had been a bad idea but she had seen the item in a shop a few weeks back and had known exactly who she wanted to have it. “During the fire moon, um the Century Moon, it was your hatch day too…” She grimaced at her choice of words. “But I was a little preoccupied turning into an angry scarf, per Bonnesar’s words. So I could not give you your gift on time, but here it is.” She placed the little box before him, face blushing slightly. “Happy late hatch day and I wish you thousands and thousands more.”

It was strange, not having the other dragon live with them anymore. He had gotten used to having her around. While he wouldn’t admit it out loud, he almost missed her presence. It had taken him a long time to warm up to her, but now that he had, he had come to grow fond of the curious creature. “It was,” he confirmed, curious where she was going with this. In reality, Kain had no idea what day he had been hatched, it had been far too many years since, for him to remember, but he had picked a date upon the insistance of other dragons around him. “An ‘angry scarf’?” he chuckled quietly. “I take it you didn’t enjoy the night as much as most others seemed to have done, then?” He was surprised to hear that she had a gift for him, even if he had seen the box. “That’s... very thoughtful of you, Eldrit,” he hummed. He opened the little box, quiet for a moment as he took in the pen lying there. It was beautiful, decorated with a tiny dragon. He swallowed a lump in his throat, touched that she had thought of him when seeing this. Looking up, he smiled at her, a surprisingly warm smile for him. “I love it.”
