The Order of Fiery Promise should be a problem for the Seekers of Truth, not you. But after the cult brands you as a test subject for their newest plot, you are left with little choice but to put an end to their goals. You must gather and work with your allies to defeat the Promisers and above all else, keep their hands off the spirit in your head.

Dragon Age: Rebirth is an Interactive Fiction fan-game set in 9:45, Orlais, currently in development.

FAQ

"Will there be any fees to play?" Absolutely not; this is fan-work without any exchange of funds. It is just a little project for fun!

"What is this project's development timeline?" There is currently no set timeline for the development period. This is a single-person passion project. I will do my best to maintain updates on the progress, and invite you to ask questions any time you like.

"Who is the player-character?" That is up to you! You will be able to roleplay your character through different responses and choices. When you begin the game, you will choose between playing as a human, elf, dwarf, or qunari - each lineage will have a different background and prologue.

"What is the Order of Fiery Promise?" Dragon Age: Inquisition introduces the Order of Fiery Promise, also known as Promisers, as a cult believing the world must end to be reborn a paradise. To quote Cassandra: "They're fanatics, drunk on whatever forbidden magic they can find to make themselves "true" Seekers".

"Who are the player's allies?" You will have the opportunity to collect five characters to follow you on your adventure. (And yes, they are each available for you to pursue an optional romantic sub-plot.) Stay tuned for more information on these allies in introductory posts!

July 2026 Update

Hello folks, it's been a while, I know! But those of you who follow me elsewhere here on tumblr might know that for the past several months, I've had some major health struggles to deal with. This really forced me to scale back the activities I had going on, and unfortunately, this project was one of them that went on hiatus pretty fast.

However, now that I've had my surgery and the complications that came with it are (hopefully) all in the past, I can confidently say that I'm going to resume working on writing for this IF again!

I do have one other, different project I want to wrap up first - it's almost done, so that shouldn't be too much longer. And then, I'm going to pick up where I left off here. It's been on my mind pretty much the whole time, so at least I haven't lost any passion.

Hi, a bit similar to this ask (https://www.tumblr.com/dragonagerebirth/798976084043563008/obviously-the-blog-is-still-getting-set-up-so-i), but I'm wondering if the world & characters will react to the MC differently based on their gender? Kind of like playing as a female Warden in DAO

Will there be needless misogyny like in DAO you mean? No.

Will race impact your friendship/romance with certain characters? Like the Dalish emo boy who hunts racist Orlesian nobles sounds like he’d be slower to trust a human Orlesian noble than a city elf or dwarf

The opportunities to befriend the characters will be the same. But there will be some minor differences in some of the actual choices and reactions based on the lineage the player is. For example, Naviris (Dalish Emo Boy) and his mother will be a little more hostile/distrusting towards you initially, if you are a human.

I also had a little bit of debate on whether or not [READCTED] would reveal the details about his experience in Orzammar to just anyone, or only towards a dwarf MC. Ultimately, I decided to go with everyone, but I think I'll throw in some extra flavour for a dwarf MC. (I haven't gotten even close to writing this part out yet though, so it's subject to change.)

Had to take a brief pause on this project, but I'm back at writing now! I'm gonna try and pace myself a little better though. Which means slower but steadier hopefully.

I'm currently circling back and revising the human origin to make it more engaging. Originally I had it very passive, but I'd like to give players a better opportunity to actually dive into the setting instead of just being told about it, you know? And I think it's working a lot better, even if it's a little more railroaded. There are still choices, but they are more about the player deciding how the character feels about certain things. I personally like this more, and I might even make some revisions to the other origins to have a similar shift towards this type of roleplaying. We'll see.

Also related: the spoiled brat options are a lot of fun to write.

Naviris (He/Him)

Most Dalish hunters are taught principles of the Vir Tanadhal - the Way of Three Trees - growing up. Naviris of Clan Athenadra was raised by his mother to follow the Vir Banal’Ras - the Way of Shadow. He has spent his entire life dedicated to fighting against the nobles who hunt Dalish elves for sport. Naviris believes himself incapable of anything but vengeance and death, and is more than a little confused when his mother orders him to use his skills to recover an ancient elven artifact, for a change.

Will any of the origins have more relevant dialogue/content than others? I know it'll be the same amount of lines overall; but I mean specifically like how playing an elf in inquisition seems to make for kind of an objectively better (or more sensical) story than playing a human for example. Would you recommend any specific origin for a first playthrough, so far?

I am doing my best to keep all the origins as evenly important as possible, so that ultimately it just comes down to personal taste. But that said, the dwarf has a tiny bit of extra dialogue so far.

i just remembered that you said one of the companions will be a half elf. are you going with the canon depiction of half elves being entirely physically human or the popular fanon depiction of NOT that? i know you dont like the canon depiction so i assume youll be non-canon compliant in this regard?

also on the topic of the half elf companion, will their mixed identity be discussed more in-depth with the dalish companion and/or (if chosen) an elven mc?

You're right, I hate the canon lore choice that anyone born of mixed ancestry between an elf and non-elf only inherits genes from their non-elf parent. Not only is it boring and lazy writing, it has massively racist connotations, especially considering the extensive, intentional Indigenous coding put into the elves as a lineage. They essentially made blood quantum laws into a real thing; it's disgusting.

In this fan-game, the half-elf who eventually joins your party looks mostly human just by coincidence, not because of "magic genes", but still has some elven traits. Regardless of her appearance, she is very proud to be elven, active in her culture, and this will absolutely be a key part of her character. She is my antithesis of Michel de Chevin from Dragon Age: The Masked Empire.

I'd rather not share too much more though until I eventually get to her little teaser introduction.

Would it be a bit much to design an MC with burn scars from 'the incident'? Idk how much the Cult fucked up that mansion but hey, rebirth from fire amiright?

Though then again, idk how quick the story needs to start up so the narrative might not have time for a recovery period

If you want to envision your MC with scarring, there is nothing to get in the way of that. ☺️ In fact I do think that'd be a cool idea, even.

Do you think neurodivergance will be touched on this game as well? For MC as well as other characters?

There won't be any scenes were a character goes to a get an autism diagnosis or something, but a couple of the companions are definitely going to be easily read as neurodivergent (I hope).

Roxanne Doucet (She/Her)

How much do we need to know about Dragon Age for this IF?

I am super interested in this fan game, but I have never played a Dragon Age game in my life and I am willing to do any required reading/watching so I can understand what's happening.

Aww, that's really sweet!

I will certainly be including some basic exposition, and I might even try my hand at writing some of my own codex entries for the player to unlock as the story progresses for more of it, especially now knowing that there might be a wider audience like yourself. But it would be a benefit to go in with knowledge of at least the lore about abominations.

And if you do want to play one of the games or watch someone else play, Dragon Age: Inquisition is the most relevant to this IF.
