Honestly there are too many to pick. Johto had the majority of my favorite pokemon… a few of which include houndoom, kingdra, steelix, and scizor! 

My least favorite Pokemon/evolutionary line

Hmm… I will have to go with gligar. The ground/flying typing is pretty obnoxious too :p

My favorite Gym Leader/Elite Four Member

My favorite gym leader is… take a guess… CLAIR. Well, you were probably expecting that anyway, right? Clair was always such a hot mess and a sore loser, but she was also strong, too. But what really got me into her character is how she was portrayed, even outside of the games. I just love how fierce and prideful she is! She may be a princess, but she’s definitely no damsel in distress. A lot of people didn’t like her anime counterpart. Although completely altered her personality, they included some really neat detail like the dragon’s holy land, riverhead falls, info about the dragon fang, etc. that was excellent!

 In HGSS, she was given a little more attention which was beautiful. It’s been such a joy over the years fleshing Clair out even more as a character and piecing together headcannons. :)

Karen was my favorite elite four because she was so rad and had such wise words to say. I wish she would’ve gotten more time and a debut in the anime..

My favorite Town/City

My favorite non-Town/City location

National park was always so peaceful, with beautiful music and fun (though sometimes frustrating) bug-catching contests. I also love the scene of whirl islands and the towers in HGSS when meeting Ho-oh and Lugia.

The side mechanic/activity that distracts me from the main game the most

Really not a fan of having to battle the battle frontier like 10000 times before saving enough bp to get 1 TM, especially when you’re on battle 6/7 and lose. U.U ALSO VOLTORB SWITCH CAN GTFO

Whether I’d punch the main antagonist in the face

Giovanni wasn’t really present in the game so….. the executives were pretty cool

Nahh… silver figured himself out in the end. I really loved how he developed as a character, starting out as a thieving asshole and through his defeats became determined and respectable.

An arbitrary /10 score and my reasoning

a TOTALLY UNBIASED 10/10 Johto was my childhood. I’ve dedicated hundreds and hundreds of hours to GSC and at least a couple hundred hours to HGSS. But most of the time dedicated to GSC precipitated time dedicated to pokemon stadium 2. I really enjoy assembling teams of gen 2 pokemon with clever or unique strats. … I could go on forever about how much Johto means to me and all the memories I have, hell I could even write a book, but that would go on forever and nobody wants to read that ;P

8.5/10

It has been 3+ years since I played this game, so like the Kalos review, my memory is a little hazy. I felt like the atmosphere and the music were really cool in Hoenn; it was so much different than the prior two games-- in a good way. I also really liked that there were two teams-- aqua and magma-- and they weren’t pitted against just you, but each other as well. Hoenn promoted a refreshing way to play pokemon with a variety of new gameplay enhancing mechanics. The storyline was also quite good, as were the new pokemon. The swimming sections were massive, and after awhile started to feel repetitive. But it was rewarding to finally make it to the Hoenn league and engage in challenging battles against the E4. Great game overall and definitely worth replaying sometime

My favorite Pokemon/evolutionary line

I really liked Dragalge despite all the indifference it got. It kind of reminded me of kingdra. Pancham and fletchling + their evolutionary lines were also pretty sweet!

My least favorite Pokemon/evolutionary line

I don’t think I really disliked any of them, so maybe diggersby? Kind of a strange looking rodent, but also not very memorable for me (had to look it up :’) )

My favorite Gym Leader/Elite Four Member

Wulfric was definitely my favorite gym leader! He really felt like the most fleshed out character and it was cool to have had (some) interaction outside of the gym battle. His gym was also really pretty~ AND LET’S NOT FORGET how he slaps his belly to initiate battle 

My favorite Town/City

Laverre City! The atmosphere/soundtrack was so unique and unlike the rest of the game. 

My favorite non-Town/City location

This is really hard because the game is really a blur to me like I said (I enjoyed this game a lot, don’t get me wrong!) I can remember the tower with Korrina was really neat. :)

The side mechanic/activity that distracts me from the main game the most

POKEAMIE (and the minigames) WAS AWESOME. Game freak finally implemented a way of actually interacting with your pokemon (granted, pokemon yellow and HGSS did this a bit prior, but it wasn’t as extensive as actually petting your pokemon!) 

Whether I’d punch the main antagonist in the face

Team flare has a reputation as one of the least interesting antagonist teams in the pokemon games, but I didn’t think they were that bad. I can’t remember a whole lot about the lion looking guy except for my friend made a meme where they put his face on a nacho. I also vaguely remember him sacrificing himself in the explosion I THINK IIRC. Which is actually pretty sad. So if anything, I kinda feel bad for the tortured soul.

Was there a rival in this game? Like I know the gender counterpart was kinda like a friend/rival, but I just remember randomly running into my homies and then they were like “wanna battle each of us WITHOUT HEALING BETWEEN BATTLES”. (tldr: nah, my rival is cool wit me)

An arbitrary /10 score and my reasoning

7/10. Despite not having a very strong recollection of the game’s content, I do remember really enjoying the gameplay and storyline. This was the first game to incorporate 3D gameplay, along with other things pokemon fans were dying for, like pokeamie. 

On the downside, I recall the game being kind of easy. Also, a lot of gym leaders had little importance to the storyline except for you had to get their badge to continue… I am TOTALLY for fleshed out gym leaders. They did however do a good job with the elite four, especially Malva!

So, pretty cool game, and it had its minor flaws, though nothing game-breaking.
