Bitish Land volunteer Anna Butterworth gets stuck in at rehearsals with Mulberry School for Girls.
Fiona Eccleston from British Land
What a fun project! I wish I had this opportunity when I was at school. I remember me and my friends huddling in my bedroom recording a mini soap opera on my tape recorder for an English project. Nothing like as professional as having a stage and microphones, real sound effects and professional director!
The team at Rich Mix are fantastic, they really welcomed me in as a volunteer on the day and got me involved with prepping the sound effects props and telling me all about the project. The girls from Mulberry school arrived and quickly got to work reading through their scripts and really bringing their story ‘The Party’ to life. They didn’t seem intimidated by the environment and their talents really shone through. After a few read-throughs and a bit of tweaking and editing from the fab staff from Half Moon Theatre, the girls recorded their own radio drama! Very exciting, can’t wait to see the final showdown on Wednesday…
Are this years Drama in the Mix participants ready to take to the stage? If they’re not yet, fear not we’ve got two rehearsal days to prepare and practice with all the technical elements. Here’s what we’ve got to look forward to:
Monday 28th April: The Party and Kierans Dream from Mulberry School of Girls rehearse with Bob to Brazil and The Friendship from Within from The City Academy!
Tuesday 28th April: Sold! and The Jobless Manager from Buxton school rehearse with Martin the Great and Soccer Street from Chingford!
And on Wednesday it’s the SHOWCASE
Box of objects patiently sat waiting for the students to get involved and turn this random assortment into sound effects!
Colourful Brazil. The theme and inspiration for this years Drama in the Mix.
Our Script Deadline is Today!
The deadline for scripts is today! We've already had a few scripts sent over to us and there is a huge range of inventive ideas!
Our panel meets next week to select the best plays to be recorded at Rich Mix in April. We couldn't be more excited.
Big thanks to Roundhouse, Half Moon, Dekan Apajee at Allsortz, East London Radio, Broadgate London and British Land. All of your help is hugely appreciated!
A horse in a radio station - presumably for use as a sound effect!
