On Friday, Sept 25, from 6-9 pm: Drawn Together will feature dozens of Bay Area artists at Children’s Fairyland, Oakland’s own historic storybook theme park. All of the art produced will be for sale for one fixed, accessible price. Fairyland is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy. Dan is perhaps best known for the "Giraphics" (1984) murals located beneath the 580 freeway at Oakland Avenue and the "Animurals" project (1985) as well as the "Lake Merritt Mural Project" (1987-88) formerly at 27th and Broadway. Two of his murals were gifts to Oakland's two sister cities Fukuoka, Japan (1992) and Dalian, China (1994) where he taught and traveled.

Randy Colosky takes utilitarian materials and concepts and through unorthodox transformation re-contextualize there content. His motive is to open a dialogue with the viewer as to how the functional and commonplace aspects of life’s experience are capable of generating transformative visual poetics.

Maureen Shields was born and raised in Southern California. She earned a BFA in Drawing and Painting from California State University Long Beach and a MFA from New York University.

She makes mixed media works on wood that combine paint, collage, handmade stickers, gold leaf, and glitter. Her printed matter and source material range from vintage LIFE magazines from the 1950s to vintage Playboy magazines from the 1970s and 80s.

Marcos LaFarga focuses his artistry on the intersection of three fundamentals of visual expression, graphic design, typography, and photo realistic renderings, all three which he seamlessly melds to create a united reflection of our contemporary life. With an abundant sense of color value and contrast, a sublime sense of humor, and a sensitivity for the balance our eyes naturally seek; Marcos is creating honest work that effortlessly represents contemporary design and composition.

My paintings are derived through an attitude of exploration, improvisation, and experimentation.  They are sort of like visual jazz, but with elements of funk, blues, rock, alternative, punk, classical, and world music all being part of the vocabulary.
