bro i was expecting some fucked up shit but i was NOT expecting all that. like on some level its not unexpected that she'd go completely off the deep end like this seeing as the weird route was sort of always about bringing both kris and noelle's deeper desires to the surface in the worst way possible but like man holy shit this was so horrific (/pos)
the way you have to exert so much effort to get kris out of bed because they were ACTIVELY fighting against us in a way they never have before and the fact that there is NO narration for anything because (i can only assume) they are dissociating THAT hard? chilling
going from yesterday's events where noelle expresses her elation at getting a glimpse of the real kris coming back only for her this chapter to idolize us as kris managing to change themself and calling us 'interesting'. and kris, still inhabiting their own body but as a spectator to their own life, having to hear her say that? having to hear themselves say the words she wants to hear? hands trembling?
like we genuinely broke her brain but the worst (best) part is that it really did speak to something deep within her that is present even in the normal route. and the fact that even we can't get her to stop anymore. there is something so potent in noelle commanding kris (commanding US) to command HER. and if you tell her to stop she won't even listen. noelle has become stronger and she will use that even against us. she wants to grow wings and we drag each other into the deepest dark, but is this truly the freedom she's been craving...?
its so sick and miserable and it makes me kick my feet and smile and go lalalalaaaaaa
and it's not that im saying that the weird route is preferable (because it is 100% a beautiful nightmare) but there is something so deeply heartbreaking about how desperately lonely kris is in the main route of chapter 5 watching the two most important people in their life get together and neglect them/push them away. and ONLY in the weird route do we see susie reaffirm her bond with kris and actually try to look after them emotionally. and before noelle focused on us entirely it was the route that affirms just how much she misses kris but that gets pushed aside in the main route because of her infatuation with susie & kris distancing themselves.
"you want to see them together / so badly. / you want to see those red eyes dance... / even so / it's wrong." & "the heart does what it does" kris misses her too.
and the place they find at the bottom of the lake. the fact that it's a screen. the fact that it directly refers to save data and the weird route (side B). it's the kind of super insane meta shit i have been waiting for years for deltarune to finally contend with and its making me so crazy im gnawing at the bars of the device let me in let me in let me in let me in. i legit never thought deltarune would actually ask you for some crazy chapter hopping stuff & i am soooo excited because one of the things that hooked me the most in undertale was the meta stuff. which has always existed in dr but not to this extent.
though i was extremely confused at first at how the game could ask for a side b (weird route) ch7 save if pursuing the weird route in ch5 is what brings you to that to begin with. so right now i'm thinking that the "aborted" version of ch5 isn't actually "aborted" and playing through the remaining chapters with that completion save is what will let us through the screen.
the first time i tried the WR i actually did fail the lake and saw the scene and i was so confused about what was happening because i didn't hear the wr-abort jingle. i think the lack of the jingle is extremely important to signify that there is definitely more to come in the future (+ kris's exclusive title).
ALSO CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE BREAD??????????? sans's presence in the weird route??? the fact that we still draw the card from his lab in this route???
sorry i genuinely havent stopped thinking about the WR since i played it its literally 5 seconds long but its making me fucking INSANE im CRAZZY IM CRAZY IM CRAZY IM CRAZY YOU HAVE NO IDEA YOU HAVE NO IDEA
i hope after chapter 5 comes out you guys will still be okay with ch 3-4 era fanart because i still have some kriselle wips that i long to finish but havent yet and probably wont till after the chapter comes out
