Where there’s a will…
Where there’s a will…
this is it. this is the most important gif on tumblr.com
no okay but let me tell you a story
so at school I’m generally a pretty quiet person. I talk to a few people, I have a few friends, but I keep to myself a lot. So anyway, during lunch I’m on tumblr mobile, and this thing comes up. I put the gif onto full screen, and kind of half laugh at it. Then this guy who I have literally never talked to before walks by and then slowly back up and starts looking at my phone screen. I try to explain what I’m looking at, but really, how the hell do you explain this? Anyway, he waves over one of his friends so his friend comes over and looks at it. I’m still sitting in my chair, and we are all still completely silent. Soon more people begin to gather. 12 people, to be exact. 12 people, many of which I have never spoken to before, standing in a large, silent, ritual-esque circle around my iphone which is playing this gif on loop. After about five minutes, the first guy goes “how long is this?” and I was like “uh, its, um, its a gif, so it kind of goes on forever.” he nods and says “perfect”. These were the only words spoken throughout this whole event.
Ruth Borgenicht is an American ceramist. She born in 1967and moved from New York City to a farm in New Jersey with her parents. Her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University was in math, but love of math was not enough to invent new ideas in this field. And so, Ruth realise that she could be far more creative with clay than with math during her last year in college.
Most of her ceramic knowledge comes from other artists, books and residencies that have provided her with a supportive and well equipped environment. They include: Hunter College in NYC, Anderson Ranch in CO, Greenwich House Pottery in NYC, Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts in ME, Chester Spring Studio in PA and University of the Arts in PA.
I use the chain mail pattern and other woven patterns to create ceramic works that conjure up a sense of permanence and defensive concealment. Like the ancient armor, my pieces are made of a fabric of moveable interlocking rings. Using clay to make a protective mesh is contradictory; for how can it defend anything, much less itself? Visually stone-like, the pieces appear strong and impenetrable, belying their inherent fragility.

It’s so cool finding this!  Ruth is really an amazing person!  We have been firing some of our work in the same kiln for a few months now,  She.s really nice, and obviously talented!  Check out her website! Â

Leetle tiny teapot! #sugarskull #diadelosmuertos #skullteapot #porcelain
Been making more stamps with polymer clay, this time with found objects. For my own designs I’m going to carve linoleum - it seems to be easier.
A commissioned piece made to fit a watch. I had a lot of fun making this puzzle box as there were quite a bit of considerations when it came to the moving parts. They had to move freely yet be sturdy enough that pieces don’t fall all around.
This piece was made out of walnut and I laminated my own ply strips for the lid bottom. I don’t own a router table so I had to use a scratch stock to hand scratch the grooves on the lid. Finished with hard wax oil and polished to a matt shine.Â
Two sides of the same teapot. Ceramic work by Ann Ohotto Thompson in Designated Areas.Â
“Yellow-Blackberry Fissure Jar”, 2008
 By: RANDY O’BRIEN….
This is a glass ”murrine" made by artist Loren Stump. Each color in the piece was carefully layered to create this “loaf” which was then sliced. Each slice sold for $5000.
That’s amazing!
Polymer clay has never looked better than in the hands of artist Meredith Dittmar.Â
These landscapes are all absolutely stunning!
For those who dont suffer never be afraid to hug and let them know you love them. They are going through turmoil in their minds, and although they may not show appreciation at that time, they WILL remember the kindness that you have shown. So please, if your friend or family member is suffering dont be afraid to approach them. xx
Happy Birthday David Bowie!
