A/n: Anon requested this one! "Can you please do a Rafe Cameron imagine where the reader is a Pogue and has a secret friends with benefits with Rafe, which was going well until they started catching feelings for each other and became increasingly jealous. Thank you so much!" I love this angsty, smutty, fluffy thing- it's so fun.
"Rafe, fuck." I breathe, face crashing onto the bed as he drills into me from behind, large hands bruising my hips as he thrusts in and out of me with an evil laugh.
"Talk to me, baby." He coos, his voice the opposite of his rough touch as his hand soothes up my spine to wrap his fingers around the back of my neck, pulling me back against him, my back flattening against his chest.
"Feels so good." I grit, tears billowing behind my eyes as I reach out to wrap my arms around his neck, fingers fisting some of his hair while I try desperately to ground myself to him- to anything. "You're so deep."
"Wanna be deeper." His lips skim desperately against my chest as he searches for my lips, our lips meeting in a messy kiss that seems to satisy both of our hunger to be impossibly closer. "Missed you all day. I wanted nothing more than to be between these thighs- most perfect fucking place in the whole goddamn world."
"I-"
"What was that? Couldn't hear you." Rafe cuts me off, hand slipping down the front of my body to play with my clit, rubbing fast circles over the sensitive bundle of nerves with no remorse, my jaw dropping in a loud moan. My head falls back against his shoulder, unable to hold myself up anymore as I slump against him.
"Fuck you." I hiss, gripping onto anything I can, feeling Rafe's hand flatten on my back as he presses me against the mattress once more, the slapping of his hips against mine and the low music are the only things to be heard in the room.
"That's what you're doing, sweetheart. You want more?"
"Yes, more, please." I beg, fingers twisting up in the sheets as I can feel my orgasm sneaking up on me, heat spreading throughout my core as my legs begin to tremble.
"Greedy fucking girl." I tip over the edge with a dropped jaw, feeling Rafe right behind me as he spills into me, his whole body hunching over mine as he groans loudly, fingers leaving bruises in my waist as he catches his breath.
I've barely registered that he's slipping out of me and slipping on his shirt when I'm coming out of my post-orgasm haze, my hands rubbing at my eyes as I beg myself to ask him for a hug or something, anything to show that he cares about me but he just turns to me, holding his hand up.
"I'll see you at the party?" I give his extended hand a high five with a half assed nod, clutching the shirt he tosses my way to my chest.
"That's all?" I ask with a breathless sigh, tilting my head dumbly at him.
"Anything else you want?"
"A kiss." He laughs at my puckered lips and his eyes roll in fake annoyance but there's still a shit eating grin on his lips as he leans down towards me.
"Ugh, I guess." He whines, pressing a longing kiss to my lips, lingering a bit before giving my nose a peck. "See you later, sweetheart."
--
I watch them from across the room, the pretty blonde seated atop Rafe's lap with no hesitation, pouring a shot between his lips. Kie is talking to me but I'm not listening to a word she's saying, my eyes locked on Rafe and Rafe alone as he shoots me a wink.
I'm on my feet in a moment, jealousy consuming me and I no longer can bare looking at him and feeling the possessiveness that I'm consumed by and I make it out to the driveway by the time I feel Rafe's fingers wrapping around my wrist, tugging me back into him.
"Hey, hey, hey, where are you going?" He asks, trying to reach up to cup my cheeks but I bat him away, shoving him away from me with an angry groan.
"I'm leaving, Rafe." I try to fumble with my keys to start my car, pressing the alarm button so I can find it in the sea of cars but Rafe snatches my keys from me and holds them over my head. Asshole.
"C'mon- fuck, stop. Come back to the party, we'll have some fun." He offers with a sickly sweet smile. "Wanna fuck?"
"Rafe-"
"C'mon, let me fuck that attitude right out of you." His hands slide down to my hips, pulling me flush against him and he almost convinces me to stay just from the look in his eyes.
"I'm not in the mood." I huff, smacking him away again as his brows furrow deeply, hands now settled at his side, his eyes uncomfortably sweeping over my tense frame.
"You're always in the mood."
"Yeah well I'm in a mood, just not the one you want me to be in." I smile bitterly, going to turn around again but he runs in front of me, blocking my way and my view of the cars in the distance.
"Hey," he whispers softly, "talk to me." I can feel tears bubbling behind my eye lids as I stare down at the blacktop, thinking of what to say to him to get him to go away, not wanting to confront him and my feelings at the same time.
"You should be careful, wouldn't want you to be seen with me."
"I- what?" He turns his head to look back at the party with a scoff, eyes squinting under the bright sun that's setting above us. "You really think I care about that? That other people care about that?" He asks and I nod, sticking to my gut, settled on pushing him away the best that I can. "I think the disputed narcissism and coke addiction will upset people before me fucking a pogue upsets anyone."
"I can't do this right now." I scoff, stepping away from him as his face pales in fear and I feel my aching heart drop to my stomach.
"You're really freaking me out." He breathes shakily. "Are you dumping me?" If I didn't know him any better, I'd think he was wounded and actually hurt by the mention of no longer seeing me and based on the redness in the whites of his eyes, I'm starting to doubt how much I know him.
"Nothing to dump, there's nothing between us, right?" I lie.
"Right." He looks as if I slapped him across the face, his jaw clenching as he takes a tentative step away from me with a deep frown. He scoffs once more before spinning around on his heel and he begins to walk away but turns right back around. "You know what- fuck you." He juts a finger in my direction and I feel my heart sink to my stomach. "I don't open up, I don't keep people around unless I want to." He finally cracks, tears filling his eyes in frustration. "I keep you around because I want to keep you around!"
"Go keep Ashely around or whatever that bimbo's name is."
"You're jealous." He breathes, a lonesome tear slipping down his cheek as my lips part in quiet shock, feeling overwhelmingly stupid all of a sudden that he's able to read me so easily, as if he actually knows me.
"Fuck you."
"You're jealous because you like me and don't want to admit it." He reaches out to me, wrapping his fingers around my upper arms in an attempt to keep me close to him and I don't fight him, feeling frustrated tears lift to my eyes as I frown, not wanting to talk about this right now.
"How could I like you?!" I screech but he grins like a fool, hands reaching up to cup my cheeks in his hands, pulling my body flush against his. "You're brutal, you leave bruises on me every time we fuck which is so annoying, there's absolutely nothing affectionate about you-"
"So, what? You want me to be gentle?" He asks softly, almost as a coo, lip jutting out in a gentle pout as he presses a kiss to my lips, leaving me hanging on the edge, waiting for him to kiss me desperately again after almost losing me.
"You're incapable of being gentle." I whisper against his lips, knowing my words are fake because he's being so soft, so gentle as he kisses my cheeks, back and forth.
"That a bet?" He asks with a wicked smile and I smile bashfully.
"Rafe."
"C'mon." He pleads. "I'm sorry." His words are a whisper against my lips, a pleading, desperate whisper and I nod, apologizing too under my breath. "I want to keep you around, don't want you going anywhere." He holds me as if his words are true, arms wrapped tightly around my back and I smile, letting myself fall into him, no longer mad. "Tell me what I have to do to keep you around."
"Stop fucking hiding me." I whisper against his neck and he nods with a hearty laugh and I can already hear him making fun of me before he even opens his mouth.
"So you wanna be my girlfriend?" He teases, soothing a hand down my back as he grins wolfishly.
"How disgustingly cheesy."
"Hmm?" He hums, finding my eyes again as I soften a bit, giving him a gentle nod. "What do you want? You want everyone here to know I'm yours?" There's a fire behind his eyes that only deepens as I nod desperately, wanting nothing more than for every girl here that's chasing after him to know better than to look at him. "Well I am. Have been since we started fucking."
"Shut up." I giggle, nervously tucking my face in the crook of his neck.
Summary: The Teleporting Female Eternal didnât want to loose Druig after what happened at Tenochtitlan. Â So she made a promise to check on Druig and make sure he was okay. Â
Little did she know that visiting Druig at his home for the next 400 years sporadically would make her feel more at home than ever before.

Tenochtitlan
âDruig!â
You skidded to a halt in the middle of the jungle, the humid air was sticking all over your skin and your heart was going 100 miles per hour. It all happened within minutes, minutes of chaos and heartbreak. You saw it all unfold in front of your eyes: one minute you were seeing a mass group of innocent people being slaughtered right in front of your eyes, not being able to do anything to stop or eliminate the threat. Â
The next minute, your family was fractured. Â
You searched the darkness, the only source of light was the small glow of the city that was still on fire, far away from you but enough to give a tint of light in the air and the sky. The sounds of the jungle were filling your ears, having you think you barely missed him as he took the last cluster of soldiers with him under his mind control. Your heart was about to drop, thinking that you already lost him for good. Â
âYou shouldnât be out here all alone, little sparrow,â
You heard him behind you using your nickname, almost creeping up along your backside as you turned quickly. There he was, standing off on his own in the middle of a small opening in the jungle. You scanned his face as you walked over the last remaining feet, searching his face and eyes to see if he was okay. You barely had time to reach out and talk to him when he stormed down the temple stairs. But now that he was there, alone in the jungle, you had a sense of both relief and dread going over you. You inwardly sighed in relief that he looked okay, but you just stared at him with sadness in your eyes.
âThought I lost track of you,â You said in a breath, looking past for him a brief moment, âWhere'sââ
âTheyâre all safe. I made sure of that,â Druig answered you before you could finish, not in a bite as he did before when he snapped at Ajak and Ikaris, but gentler and in a soothing way. Maybe he saw the distress on your face and maybe he heard it in your voice, but he seemed like a different person when he was talking to you. You looked back at him directly in the eyes as he shifted in his stance. He had his hands folded in front of him, almost ready for anything you were going to tell him. Did he think you were going to scold him, to coax him into going back? Â
âLook, Druig,â You started to say to him, remaining loose and timid in front of him as if you knew it was just the two of you there, no one listening in or watching, âI just wanted to tell youâŚ.I know why you left,â
Druig paused, the hard outer shell that he had a second ago, let alone back at the temple, almost seemed cracked and melted away when you said that to him. He probably expected you to say something else, something against his beliefs. But you were agreeing with him, which came out of nowhere.
Druig was not your best friend, but he was your friend. Since the beginning, Druig saw the humans more than a mere species, you all did. But with the mind controller, he could feel the raw need to help the humans and to bring peace. You admired that about him, seeing that it brought him joy when he saw the humans showing kindness to each other. Yet as the centuries came and went, the joy he had was slowly diminishing to pain and emptiness in his heart. Seeing what happened that night in the temple, you witnessed Druigâs own heart breaking right in front of you. Â
âReally?â He asked genuinely, though he was still sounding slightly bitter and emotional. He didnât think that someone else in the Eternal family would side with him, or say it out loud. You nodded your head as you looked back at the smaller sight of the city that was still on fire and falling apart within minutes.
âI know how long you have been wanting to stop the humans from hurting each other,â You explained some more, still looking at the flames that were licking up in the sky, âDruig, Ajak meant well in what she was trying to do with us and for us. But I see your side too,â
âAre you going to stop me?â Druig asked, making you look back at him and see him search your eyes. The darkness of the night couldnât mask the still watery tears that were in Druigâs blue orbs, making them almost look contrast. You shook your head slowly at him.
âNo,â You answered, seeing his shoulder slouch slightly, âYou made your choice. I canât stop you from doing what you think is right," You knew better than to stop Druig when he made a choice or a decision. He was capable of taking care of himself, the others forgot that from time to time. But you knew, there was more strength and resilience in him.
"You think Iâm right, then?â Druig asked you, his voice sounding a bit bolder as he took a step over to him.
âI do,â You explained, âBut I still need to stay with them and make sure theyâre okay,â
Druig nodded his head slowly, almost giving you a slight smile. Perhaps he thought you were going to move on from them too since you agreed with his philosophy. It was confusing at times, not understanding why couldnât intervene when you needed it, but you also understood that you couldnât do so much for the species so that they can have their evolution. Being in the middle of two contrasting thoughts made your head hurt, and it almost made you question your loyalty too. Â
âListen, I have something for you,â You finally say, reaching into your tunic pocket that was against your leg to take out a small trinket of sorts. It was a ball, a black ball that felt like marble but it was light and barely felt with a long black thread attached to it. You held it out in front of you to him, seeing him look at the necklace that was being presented to him.
âThis is for you,â You explained, watching him carefully and with a hint of reluctance take the necklace and look at the black marble that was at the end of it. He placed it in his palm, looking at it with curious eyes, âPhastos made it about 20 years back and he finally made it workable,â
âWhat is it?â he questioned in curiosity.
âA homing beaconâ You answered, seeing him look from the necklace to you now. Â
You remembered talking with Phastos sometime before, just the two of you, back in his lab on the Domo. He made a small little device just for the Eternals, showing you when it was completed while the others were out on patrol. It was a small ball, literally the size of a baby pinecone that could fit in the palm of your hand. Phastos walked it over to place it in your palm, a hint of excitement on his face and in his voice.
âItâs a homing device,â Phastos explained to you as you were looking at the very ball small and touching it with your fingers, âIâm going to make one for all of us, itâs small but itâs powerful. Itâll be able to have us find each other if weâre separated with exact coordinates,â
âSo, itâs like a tracker?â You asked, seeing him nod his head.
âI think itâll be better for us to know where we all are if something does happen with Deviants. If thereâs an ambush, or something goes left, we know where to find each other,â Phastos explained, âI know Iâm no fighter, but I want to help and make sure you guys are going to be okay,â
âI know youâre going to be okay on your own,â You explained to him some more as you pointed to the necklace, âBut this is for you to be in contact just in case something does happenâŚ.and so that I can keep an eye out on you,â
Maybe he was going to think that you were crazy in giving him a tracking device to have on hand. But it was almost a smaller gesture on your end to show that you were willing to have him walk away from you and the family, but he still had a way to find you and be in contact with you. A part of you cared for him, you even learned a lot from him in how one should view life on this planet. To think of having him completely out of your own, cold turkey, was too much to bear,
âIf you ever need help with anything,â You kept going, seeing him close his fingers around the necklace that was against his palm, his eyes were still looking at it with softness there and maybe even a hint of warmth too, âJust channel your energy into the necklace. Itâll go off with the others that are wearing the device too,â
âTo the others?â He asked, looking back at you finally as you then paused. It was still a bit fragile the others and Druig, you knew that he wasnât going to want to talk to any of them for a while. Specially Ajak and Ikaris, it was a fresh wound that would take some time to callous over. Druig needed to be away from them for some time, contact and all. So it was rightfully so that you moved the collar of your own tunic to the side to show that you were wearing the same kind of necklace too, but yours was lighter with a mix of brown and red.Â
âActuallyâŚitâs just to me,â You explained, seeing him look at the necklace around your neck that was hanging against the undershirt on your chest, âPhastos only made two of them so far. I took them from his lab when Phastos wasnât lookingâŚright after you left the temple,â
You felt a bit sneaky in taking two of his devices from him, yet you know Phastos wasnât going to be mad at you forever. As soon as you saw Druig walk out of sight, you knew you had to do something to now have Druig be completely out of your life. So while the others were still at the temple, after Ajak gave you all permission to go off on your and you all were trying to plan the next move together as a group, you snuck off to rush to the lab, knowing exactly where they necklaces were and where he stored them. You were going to hear an earful later, but given the circumstances, you didnât care.
You were only caring about Druig in front of you and wanting to have some kind of communication with him since you had no idea you were all going to be together again. It could be months, or perhaps years on end. You didnât want to take the chance. Â
âAre you saying that youâre going to keep tabs on me, little sparrow?â He asked you, hearing a hint of warmth there in his tone while he used your pet name. Druig was watching you with intrigue in his eyes. Was that what you were telling him? Were you carefully letting him know that you were willing to keep an eye on him.?
âIâm saying that Iâm willing to see you at any time if you need meâŚor if you want me,â You answered calmly to him, hoping that he understood. It wasnât going to be complicated or chaotic with him, since it felt like he truly needed space. As painful as it was, you wanted to grant that to him. Maybe the space was something he needed, maybe he could grow from it. Â
âIâll keep that in mind,â he replied to you, sounding almost like his old self. You grinned, and although it was a dire circumstance and it was a dreadful night for this, you were a bit glad that his departure from your was not as bad. Â
ââââââââ
100 Years After Tenochtitlan
Your first visit with Druig was a bit of a surprise. You were still with the group, some of you deceasing to stick together although the Deviants were all destroyed and the threat was gone. It was a safe bet to stay with your family, traveling around a bit together and watching the humans from the shadows. But once you found a moment, you decided to visit Druig. Â
Without the others knowing of course.
He was in the same place where you both spoke last, the large jungle vegetation almost looked the same as it did before. You used your cosmic energy ability to teleport over the jungle, using the necklace finally for the first time. Once you landed on your feet where the coordinates took you, you were floored by what you saw.
There was a community right in front of you, a village that seemed part of the jungle, but almost was in contrast with the jungle too. There was a cluster of people there, all of whom looked at peace and in tranquility from being in that village. It was almost dream-like, how the people were working and talking together as if they didnât know about the outside world. Â
Small huts and shakes were built around the perimeter of the area that seemed like a medium-sized clearing, an opening in the middle with a well and watering hole. A farm was off to the left with rows and rows of corn and vegetables were seen, flourishing under the tall jungle trees and branches. From what you were seeing, it was a fruitful village and it was thrivingÂ
âHello, sparrow,"Â
You saw him walk over to you with a small grin on his face. You beamed, you couldnât help it as you were looking at him up and down. He looked beyond better, compared to who he looked that night when he separated himself. There was a glow about him, a tint of a tan on his skin, and the lightness was seen in his hair from being out in the sun for so long. He looked so different, but he also looked the same. Once he was close enough, you couldnât help but bring him into a hug. Â
Druig hugged you back, almost thrown off that you were embracing him in the middle of this village. But you were just so glad to see him and to realize that he was okay.
"Iâm sorry for showing up on you unannounced,â You explained as you pulled away and looked at him, then looking at the village all around you with wide eyes and a hint of surprise, âBut I wanted to check-in and see how you were doing. Is thisâŚ.is this your home now?â
âWould you like me to show you around?â Druig asked, still looking a bit shocked that you were there but happy. You looked back at him, seeing the twinkle in his eye as he was looking at you with some fondness. You nodded, seeing him give a genuine grin before he reached down to take your hand in his own.
He showed you the entire compound, giving you insights of the village with what they were growing in the farm and how he helped the people he took from the temple build this place from the ground up. You realized that the people that were there in the village were direct descendants of the soldiers he took with him, Druig harboring them and keeping them safe from the world that was going on around them. He reassured you that he gave them the choice to leave whenever they wanted to, not having control over them constantly. Only a few people had left within the 100 years in that small village, the rest choosing to stay and live there on their own. Â
This was what he wanted all this time with all the humans on the planet, and there he was having it with just a handful of humans. Â
It almost felt like a dream, seeing how peaceful and calm this life was with barely anything to pull them away or anyone to harm them. Hearing Druig describe everything to you with a wide eye sense of fondness and fascination made you grin, watching his eyes light up when he showed you the chicken coop that he helped put together. After all the compound was shown from top to bottom, he took you down a small beaten path that the villages carved out, taking you both on a few minute walk to the view of a gorgeous river that was massive and peaceful to see as the sun was getting lower and lower in the sky. Â
You stood by side with Druig, seeing the river float by you gently with the rolling rhythm of the earth. Breathing in the rich scent of the soil and hanging flowers from the surrounding area, you both stood still for a long moment or two with the beauty in front of you and the hum in the air. Â
âHow are the others?â Druig finally asked, looking ahead at the river as you were watching the water too. You didnât want to bring them up, not while you were having a joyful reunion with your old friend whom you havenât seen in 100 years. You didnât know where he stood with the others and if he was still bitter with them. Maybe you were waiting for him to say something first, and once he did, you didnât know what to say.
âTheyâre fine,â You replied, keeping it simple.
âJust fine?â He asked, sounding a bit curious but was still neutral. Â
âI didnât know if you wanted to hear anything from them, Druig,â You confessed to him, sounding off yourself as he finally looked over at you now with some sincerity in his stare, âYou have this life out here, and I donât know if youâre still angry with them all and what happened. I didnât want you to be angry with me too,â
You never had a bad moment with Druig in the past, maybe a few spat every once in awhile. But you also knew he might have seen have some resistance with the rest of the family since that night 100 years prior. The last you would want is to make this reunion a bit awkward. Druig was also a hard person to read from time to time, and maybe this was not the best time to bring out old wounds.
âI wouldnât be angry with you,â Druig reasoned, sounding a bit soft with you as you finally watched him then. You could tell he was thinking about the others, no longer genuinely happy with your reunion but almost in a middle ground, âYouâre still with them, I take it?â
âYes,â You hummed at him, watching him tilt his head at him as you looked back out on the river to see some of the water splashing near your feet, âSince the Deviants are gone, there hasnât been that much to do. Iâm getting a bit bored and restless myself,â
The rest of the time there against the river was of you filling Druig in on the others and how they were all doing. Druig listened to you with genuine interest, hearing about every member. There were moments throughout you giving him the news that you thought you saw him looking a pinch remorseful in leaving the others. Maybe a small flicker in his eyes when he heard about Makkari, but it was subtle enough that you said nothing about it. You were just happy to be there and see that Druig was well.
âWill I see you again?â Druig asked you as you both were walking back to the compound, the sun was already gone and thermion was rising high up in the sky. You figured it was a good time to go back to the others before they would have a panic attack in not knowing where you were. Even though knew Ajak trusted you and your sound judgment on where you would travel, you didnât want to push it. Druig understood, and perhaps you thought you had a hint of reluctance and sadness on his face when you told him you had to go back.
âOnly if you want me to,â You reminded him, walking side by side to the edge of the village, right where you teleported to hours before. The villagers were already in bed, leaving the two of you alone with the peaceful gentleness of the jungle. It felt very nice to have that time with Druig and away from anyone else. He seemed so calm and peaceful, nothing holding him down or holding him back. Â
âOf course I would,â He hummed in reply, having you grin at him as you stood in front of each other, âI enjoyed you coming and checking in on me, making sure Iâm still sane,â
âYou make it seem like I didnât have faith in you,â you and to joke with him, seeing him give a rather big smile that showed the warmth in his face and cheeks, âItâs justâŚ.I missed you and I wanted to make sure you were alright,â
Perhaps it sounded a bit desperate on your end or almost neurotic in the tone, but it was true. Druig was on your mind every once in a while when you were with the family, always wondering where he was and if he was going to be okay. From there your thoughts floated to missing his company in general, that warmth he brought when he would laugh, or that intrigue he would bring when you would have deep discussions. Yet you had hesitance there in your gut, that stubbornness in you had was making you remember that he chose to leave. Having that one day with him filled you back up with anything that made you feel empty, hearing him talk with such enthusiasm about this place heâs built for the humans made you beyond happy for him. Â
âYou are always welcome to come visit,â Druig reassured you, seeing him smile gently at him as he smiled back, âAnytime, please visit me,â
âAre you sure?â You asked him, âI donât want to intrudeââ
âYou would never intrude,â Druig answered back with honesty in his tone and his eyes, âIt was nice to see youâŚand I donât think it would hurt to see you again. You are always welcome here, I promise.â
It was a start of a beautiful tradition with the both of you.
âââââââââ
50 Years Later
Another fifty years came and went before you would return, but you brought a bag in tow with you as you once again landed on your feet with the leave rustling around your landing area. It was late in the morning then as you walked through the village. You noticed a few subtle changes to when you were there last, a few more huts that were now refurbished, a corral with a few horses that were there along with a cluster of alpacas next to the horses. There was even a small herb garden that looked very new and tiny while you walked across the main area of the village. The bag you had with you was making you excited and almost giddy, ready to show Druig what you brought for him.
You found him at his own little home that he had made his own. It was the smallest shack, barely a front porch there on an elevated platform above the ground, but he was there fixing a floorboard on the porch with another villager helping him. His back was to you, but as soon as you were close enough, he paused his work and looked over his shoulder at him, grinning from seeing you. He was wearing a thin white shirt with brown pants and boots, the shirt sleeves rolled to his elbows and showing the small hint of sweat against his skin. Â
You couldnât help but notice the muscles that he was getting, realizing that he was being handy all this time in the village and helping keep this village afloat. Sure he could have mind-controlled the villagers to do the dirty work, but the fact that he chose to was endearing, and fascinating to see too.
âHello, sparrow,â he greeted you with your infamous nickname. You grinned widely as he hopped down from the platform and dusted his fingers on his pants. He then leaned over to hug you, having him chuckle from the fierce hug you were giving back to him. The smell of his sweat and the wood he was working on was seeping into your nose, almost making you go dizzy for a second. It was odd, feeling like this with him. Only from a hug, how strange.
âI have something for you!â You said with a hint of excitement as you pulled away from him, seeing how his face was giving you amusement when you showed him the bag on your shoulder. You held it in your hands, almost too excited as Druig gave you a playful look.
âWhat is it?â he asked, almost chuckling from how you were looking like an ecstatic child. Â
âI have to show you,â You replied, leaving it at that and seeing him give one of his rare smiles again. Â
There was a newspaper with the current world events that you grabbed when you were out in London on your travels, and lastly, some candy sweets that you discovered with Makkari out east. Although you knew he wasnât going to be too bored running a village out in the jungle, you still considered it a good gesture to find things to bring him. Â
Almost like an olive branch really.
The rest of your visit was catching up with Druig, just like when you came for the first time. There was always news that you would bring him about the rest of the Eternal Family, and he was willing to listen to all of the news you would give him. You never wanted it to sound like you were coaxing him to come back to the family, you tried so hard to not have it that way. Yet Druig never showed that on his end either, he rather enjoyed you telling him the news of the outside world. Â
You then pulled out a small bouquet of Lavender, tied in a brown string for Druig. He took with with amusement on his lips as you pointed to the purple flowers.
âThey grow this out in the countryside in France,â you explained, âTheyâre supposedly good for honeybees, at least thatâs what Sersi told me.â
âTheyâre lovely,â Druig hummed as he took in a small breath of the aroma.
âItâs my new favorite flower,â You said in agreement.
It was even enjoyable to see him try the treats that you got him, making you laugh when he would make a face after taking a bite. It was just like before, feeling some weight no longer on your shoulders as you talked for hours and hours on end. The longer you talked with each other and dove deeper into your friendship with one another, the more you felt yourself being wrapped around him and his soul like a vine. Â
Lastly, you gave him a copy of Metamorphoses from Shakespeare. Of course, he looked a bit skeptical about it when you placed the delicate book in his hands, but the look you were giving him was convincing enough for him to read it.
âItâs really good,â You said to him as he flickered through the pages, âAnd I think Kingo is his new favorite fan,â
Druig chuckled as he looked at you with a cocky grin, âThat good huh?â
Once again, it was a bit sad to walk out of his village back to the very spot where you landed at the beginning of the day. You wished you had more time with him in the day to just be in the same as him, that feeling be bough of happiness and peace was something you wished you could bottle up and use from time to time. You didnât tell him, but the last decade or two was taking a toll on you with the family. Bitterness was amongst the group, almost like the bitterness of the world was seeping in with your family. No matter how much you tried to stay positive and happy, you could feel the dullness and ache of how the world was changing now going into your family.
âItâs always good to see you,â Druig said to him as you gave him one last hug. You smiled at him, saying nothing as you hugged him within your arms. The last thing you wanted to do was burden him with your own feelings since you were merely visiting. Yet when you pulled away from one another, you could see that he was sensing some of the hesitance on your face and in your eyes. It was almost on the tip of his tongue to say something, you read it in his blue eyes. But he said nothing, which might have been a good thing in the end. All you could do was grin at him, hoping not to make it worse.
âYou too,â You hummed.
ââââââ
300 Years after Tenochtitlan
You had nowhere else to go, and the last thing you wanted was to be alone.
When you landed this time, your legs were shaky and your head was spinning out of control. This time when you came, it was late in the evening and the mood of the village was already low and at a simmer. You would always be excited when you teleport there, a family sense of joy would come in. Yet now, it was different and off. It felt like your escape, especially with what you went through.
You were standing still in the darkness and at the edge of the clearing, shaking a bit from how you found yourself there. In the past you would plan your trips to the Amazon, making sure you had everything ready before you teleported. But this time, this was an instinctual jump you did that you didnât think you would. One minute, you were with Ikaris, Sersi, and Ajak. Then the next minute, you were here.
Youâve always enjoyed coming to see Druig, coming every 50 years to keep him up to date with the tousled world and just catch up with him in general. Every time you came to see him, your friendship with him went deeper and bigger. By this point, you two knew each other beyond basic friendship. You knew every time you came to see him, you also were feeling things for Druig that you never thought you would. Visiting him made you giddy, almost like a young girl who was enraptured with a new love. Why would you think it would be love with Druig, of all people? Â
What in the hell happened?
âHey!" You looked up, seeing none other than Druig near the water hole, pausing his movements from pulling out a bucket of water. He was perched up with one knee on the top and his other leg down, his stance looking loose and calm as he did before. He looked happy to see you as he went on, "Youâre coming here lateââ
He paused, seeing how still you were and not walking over to hug him as you would plenty of times before. Maybe he sensed it where he was, how you were so stiff you could blow over in the wind. He dropped his bucket on the ground abruptly, sensing that something was off, really off with you. He walked over quickly, his eyes concerned on you and staying right on you while he made his way over to him.
âWhat happened, sparrow?â He asked you, sounding uneasy with you as he was close enough. Did he think you were attacked by a Deviant? Or maybe he thought someone else got hurt with the family. You would tell him anything and everything that was happening, so sudden news could change everything. Once he was close enough to see your face however, he abruptly stopped. His eyes went directly to the one thing that was on your face that stood out like a sore thumb. Inwardly, you thought the darkness was going to hide it, and you wanted to forget it. Yet the throbbing pain that was there against your skin, and the very recent memory of what did happen. You saw it in his face, how it went from gentle and concerned into hard and almost angry.
There was a massive cut on your jawline, a bruise blossoming there already along your skin.
âWhat is this?â He asked in a low tremor, almost trying to stop himself from getting angry in front of you. You shivered from a gust of wind that came through, but your face was drained as enough to show Druig that you were more wounded inwardly than outwardly, âWho did this to you?â
âThere was a fight,â you explained in a stammer, seeing Druig look from the cut over to you now as you found yourself rambling and spewing it all out in the open. Druig carefully reached down to place his hand on your arm and was watching you intensely as you kept going, âIkaris and Sersi had a fight and split up! Ikaris snapped at Ajak for being too soft on the humans, and I was trying to defend her and I told Ikaris he was being mean. HeâŚwas so angry and I stopped him from lashing out at Ajak by hurting her. I got in the way and heââ
You stopped, not wanting to say the rest of him since he might have caught on. It all happened so quickly when the fight was happening, the loud voices and shouting matches that were being thrown between Ajak and Ikaris. Sersi crying from Ikaris breaking her heart, you were merely trying to stop a physical fight from breaking out in the end, it was all too much. Yet you got too close, shoving Ikaris back a bit too roughly when he was about to hit Ajak. Â
Closing your eyes, you felt like you were about to cry from going through all of this. You never thought you would feel the brokenness of the family you loved and cared for, seeing the cracked unearth getting bigger and deadlier. There was no way you could stop it yourself, all you could do was try to mend those cracks. Yet as time went on, you were getting exhausted in doing just that. Maybe you felt like you were being overlooked by the others since they too were changing with the world that getting grim and grey. But that fight was the tipping point.
âHey, look at me,â He said to you, making you look at him and see the pain there on his face. You didnât know if he was reading your mind then, or how he was hearing your voice and it sounded like you were about to break into a thousand pieces, but he looked so concerned for you there. Perhaps you saw a flicker of rage from seeing a wound on your face, but then again he was trying to hide it. A look youâve never seen him give you personally before. He reached up and framed your face with his palm and fingers, almost making you lose your breath and forget about the fight for a fracture of a moment. Â
âLetâs get it cleaned up, okay?â He calmly said to you, clearly showing his anger from seeing you with a nasty mark. You nodded, saying nothing but following Druig. For the first time that night, you feel a bit safer and calmer.
âââââââââ-
You sat on Druigâs bed in his shack, sitting still as Druig created a healing paste with some herbs and ointments that his villagers used. Either of you said a word as he was making the paste and then placing it lightly over your wound, being gentle and moving smoothly so that he wouldnât spook you. As he was working, you were feeling drained from all that happened in the last hour or two. But somehow, being Druig in this place many times before and even now, you always felt safer here and more like yourself. There was no reservation with Druig, you would vent to him about something one of the others would say or do, ad Druig would listen. And to think that the roles were switched before when Druig would vent to you. Â
âI donât wanna go back,â you muttered out loud as Druigâs thumb with some of the paste touched the edge of your wound, making him pause in his gesture as he was looking from the wound to you and your eyes. You were staring off at the wall, the anxiety and pain you were feeling were now drained and evaporated into the air. You were sitting against the wall, your knees drawing to your chest as Druig was right next to you with his other hand holding the paste in a bowl, âI just need a break from them all,â
âYou donât have to go back, you know,â he reminded you calmly and soothingly, âI mean, you donât have to stay here permanently if you donât want to. Youâre always welcome to stay with me here in the village," He paused, almost flustered in what he just said as you finally looked over at him. You had to give him a tried smile, attempting to show that you listen though you felt your thoughts were too far away and too fractured.
"Can I at least stay for a few days?â You asked, almost meekly. Druig peered into your eyes and gave you one of the most beautiful smiles you have ever seen. You were sitting on his bed, nursing a massive wound on your cheek from stopping a deadly fight, and you were right next to someone whom you knew far better than you know yourself. Coming to Druig was almost like a vacation in a sense, your fears and worries werenât there in the jungle and all you did was smile and feel free. Was there some kind of magical spell under the trees that you felt every time you teleported there? Or was it the cool and demeaning Druig rubbing off on you?
âYou can stay for however long you want,â Druid reminded you, his voice soothing like the balm on your cheek, âYou should know that by now after all these years. You donât have to ever ask, okay?â
You did know that. Deep down, you knew Druig would let you stay for however long you wanted. The friendship you both had was deep enough to know each other so closely and how the other functioned and how the other felt. You grinned at him, seeing that smile right back at you and the fluttering in your stomach. Â
âââââââ
You spent at least 3 days straight there in Druigâs village.Â
Every day seemed long and languid as if time did slow down just for you. You would wake to the rays of the sun on your face, breathing in the crisp air into your lungs and the gentle sounds of the jungle animals waking up in the distance. It was almost like a pleasant dream, you fearing that at any moment you were going to wake up and be back with the group and the anxiety that was waiting for you there.
You never really got a chance to see how the village was looking when you arrived last minute the night before. So when you walked the grounds on the first morning, you were noticing the subtle changes and improvements that were there. You loved seeing the village population grow little by little when you would visit, and now there was a cluster of children that were running around and playing together. It warmed your heart to see this community thriving and growing in abundance, knowing Druig had something to do with it. You even giggled when you saw the cluster of children rushing over to Druig when he was out and about, tugging on his sleeves to get his attention and hear a story. He melted around the children, picking up a little boy in his arm and talking to them all with gentleness and sweetness on his tongue and lips. Â
That was the first sign that you felt something inside of you about Druig.
You saw his day-to-day work for the first time. When you would visit in the past, you would only stay for a few hours before you would leave. Now you had more time to watch him go out and about with the villagers: fixing up holes and patches in houses and talking amongst the elders to discuss any improvements that can take place. You wanted to help wherever you could, harvesting some of the crops that were readying for picking and tending to the infant goats that were just born a few days ago. Â
You even turned your necklace with the singular homing beacon bead that you wore into a bracelet to wear on your left wrist. Â Druig, seeing you lace the beads together on your bed that night with a needle and thick thread, took his own necklace off and handed it to you.
âIâll match with you then,â he said in a shrug, though he grinned as he said it. Â So you made a identical black beaded bracelet for Druig, his homing device nestled there with the other black beads as it fitted snuggly around his wrist.
Druig also took your riding on the horses that they had, showing you a route that he would take from time to time on his own. Maybe he would it would be therapy for you, drinking in the slice amongst the greenery and vegetation while riding on a magnificent yet beautiful beast like a horse. It seemed so picturesque, riding next to Druig as the sun was setting over the same river you two would talk by.  By the end of the day and eating dinner with the other villagers and hearing old stories and wide tales, Druig would walk to you the spare shack that he set aside just for you, telling you goodnight with an almost lingering stare, and he would walk back to his shack and living quarters. Â
Humans believed in heaven, and perhaps it was this place.
By the second day, your wound was becoming a sliver on your skin and the bruise was dying down. Such a blessing as it was that you were an Eternal and you could heal rather fast, and maybe it was the paste that Druig gave you to make it less of a scar and only a line.  It was a sign of you changing for those days you were spending in the jungle, away from the chaos that was back at home. As much as you loved and cared for Ajak and Sersi, even Makkari and Phastos, you need space from them for a while and get your head back into a good space. Â
Druig always looked to where you were on the grounds, no matter if he was taking care of his people or setting the patrol around the perimeter, you could tell he was searching for you from wherever he was. It was rather nice to know that he was looking out for you, though you both know there was no real threat that could harm either one of you. Still, it was almost second nature for Druig to look out and take care of you. Â
That was the second sign: Druig wanting to protect you.
On the third day, all of that tension you were feeling and experiencing already melted away. You felt like a different person, easier in your stance and smiling much more. All you need was the space and the reset of your mind again. You had many reasons for this, but every time you tried to think of the right reason, it all lead back to Druig. Druig and his patience when you would air your grievances. Druig and his kindness towards you make your well-being a priority. Â
Lastly, Druig and his beautiful heart that you were slowly falling for.
You were out helping hang some of the fresh laundry on a clothesline with some of the villagers when Druig approached you with a pep in his step. He was almost glowing with a small smile on his face.
âCan I steal you away for a moment?â Druig asked, making you grin at him and nod as you both moved away from the clothesline slightly to have your private conversation. Â
âIs something wrong?â You asked him, seeing him shake his head.
âNothing at all. I want to show you something before the sun goes down,â he explained, having you grin at him. There was something he was hiding from you, you could sense it. But you decided to play along with his antics, not knowing what to expect from him and what he had planned for you. Although, you were a pinch excited, because all this time you were spending with him, all these moments together for the past two days, they were becoming sacred to you and making you feel a certain way about Druig.
Druig led you on a different path that youâve never gone on before, not with him. You were about to get the horse that you would ride daily, but Druig insisted on taking just one horse. So you ended up behind Druig as he took you both, wrapping your arms around his waist and having it feel beyond natural to do so. This was a first: sharing a horse with Druig. The path he took you was almost different from the several other paths that you have taken before. Any other path you knew like second nature, the path that lead to the river, even the path that took you over to the ridge. Yet this path was different.
âWhere are you taking me?â You asked to ask. Â
âItâs a surprise of sorts,â He replied over his shoulder at him as you rolled your eyes.
âI never knew you being one for surprises,â You reminded him calmly, feeling the vibrations of his chuckle through your arm around your waist. He said nothing else, having you notice the path steering over to the left and showing a mass opening of what looked to be a meadow. You squinted from the blaring sun that suddenly shined through the area. You were almost dazed for a slight moment, but once your vision was back to normal, you breathed in a sweet smell of some sort.
Why were you smelling lavender?
Druig slowed the horse down to a stop, having your gaze go over his shoulder. You were frozen with what you saw, your mind was blank and almost going into pure shock as you saw a huge meadow stretching out in front of you. But it wasnât any other kind of meadow as Druig hopped down from the horse first. You were still looking at the heavenly picture in front of you, dazed and almost lost in words and description. Â
It was a massive lavender field.
The different shades of light purple were there in your eyesight, the sweet smell was present in every inhale that you took, and the gentle sound of each stem swaying in the wind filled your ears as you finally snapped out of it for a long moment to hop down from the horse. Druig was silent, watching your reaction as you were walking in a daze over to the field with a bewildered look in your eyes. There was nothing to be said, not then and there as you were seeing at least thousands upon thousands of lavenders tall and strong. You thought Heaven was what the village looked and felt like. Â
You were wrong, the lavender field in front fo you was heaven.
You walked amongst one row of the flower bushes, touching each flower delicately with your fingers and having a smile etched on your face. Your focus was on the flowers themeless, not hearing Druig following you carefully and gently with a tilt of his head.Â
âHow did you get all of these?â You had to ask in amazement as you reached down to touch a smaller stem that was near your leg. Â
âYou remember back when you brought me a batch of lavender from France?â he asked behind you, having you look over at him while you were still crouched down and having a hand against the flower. Seeing Druig watch you in a field of your favorite flower, a hint of fondness in his blue eyes, almost made your heart skip. You never saw him look like that at you before, and how he was looking at you at that moment, made your stomach do somersaults. Â
âI do,â You hummed, seeing him nod slowly before he gestured to the whole area with his hand.
âThis all came from that one batch you gave me,â he explained, having you pause and stare at him in utter shock, âOne of the elders showed me how to plant and harvest them. After the first batch, I planted some more right after. It turned into all of these flowers.â
âitâs been centuries since I gave you that batch,â You commented as you got up slowly and looked around again, your breath lost in the beauty that was all around you in a 360-degree view. To think that this all came from one simple batch that you snagged. You only took the lavender to Druig to give him some kind of sense of what made you appreciate the outside, a small representation of what was in your heart perhaps. But seeing how it multiplied around you, growing and bursting in beauty and delicacy. It moved you, utterly moved you, that Druig did this all on his own. Â
Now you were seeing and feeling Druig in a new sense, almost in a new shade. Thinking of him almost was like feeling the sun against your skin after rainfall, or even breathing in the fresh rain against the freshly turned soil on the ground. You doubted your innocent love for him all this time, thinking it was just simple and silly feelings. But something else was happening to you as you were smiling in a daze amongst the flowers near your knees and legs.
You didnât realize Druig was walking to be right behind you, standing nearly behind you to have you feel the warmth of his skin against yours. You were standing still but almost saying, like the lavenders all around you as you then felt the gentles of touches against your bare arms. His fingers, rough and stained with centuries of working in the earth and against wood, were so gentle and fragile like you were the lavender yourself, barely caressing your skin on your arms then lower to your fingers and hands. You were feeling electricity, or that cosmic energy in you being amplified as he laced your fingers together as he was still behind you. It made you smile, truly smile, as you wanted to lean back in his embrace. Â
âI wanted to make this perfect for you,â He said against your ear as you felt his breath tickle against your skin. Your body was moving before your brain, your hands and arms moving to have him wrap his arms around you from behind. You had no hesitance behind, not now seeing these flowers in front of you and having all this time with Druig throughout the years. Maybe he was silently telling you something, not using his words but by this beautiful gesture that were you witnessing. All you could do was accept it, not wanting to win or hide from it.
âThis is beautiful, beyond perfect,â You said to him in a murmur, feeling him press his head against your head behind as you kept talking, âAll all times I came to see you, they brought me peace and happiness. I think, in a way, being here with you saved me from going to a dark place,â
Of course, it sounded so pathetic to say it there with him holding you, in a field of flowers. But it was a fact: the contrast in how you were with Druig versus how you were with the other Eternals. When you were back with the others, you were almost getting the weight and pain of the world being pushed on your shoulders. The humans were hurting and hating each other more and more, and all you could do was be silent about it and let them murder each other and harm one another. It made you sick to your stomach, bringing that optimism that you used to have in the very beginning simmer and met away. You were a changed person, a darker person, as time went on.
But with Druig, you bounced back. It was simple and easy-going, it was gentle touches of the sun and the soothing rhythm of the day that made you remember simpler times with the humans that were around in the very early times of the planet. Druigâs village brought back a soothing balm to your aching and depressed bones. You knew it was all because of Druig, and perhaps he sensed your almost spiral and was trying to get you out. He never said it, nor did you, but he felt it. You only said so much about how you were feeling and what was making you feel mellow and dull. He knew more than you, you then as he was holding you from behind and bringing you to center. You then realized.
All this time, he was your center.
âEvery time you left, I would count down the days until I saw you again,â Druig confessed to you, making you breathe in deeply as you were looking down at the laced fingers against your lower stomach, âYou grew on me, every time you came to visit,â Â
âYou grew on me too, Druig,â You replied to him calmly, âI feel more at home here with you than anywhere else, on anything else,"Â
"I know itâll be selfish for me to tell you of this,â Druig said to you in a mutter, sounding like he was about to second guess himself with what he was going to say to you, âBut every time you leave, itâs getting harder and harder for me to see you go,â
âIâm the same way,â You confessed in a shaky tone, feeling your heart beating faster and faster as you two were sharing this moment.
âI want you to stay with me, here,â Druig stated, having me pause in his hold. Youâve heard him tell you so many times that you were more than welcome to stay there with him for as long as you wanted, having you wonder if he would have offered the same thing to others too. Would he have said the same thing? Was it only going to be you? Were you thinking too much into this because of how deep your friendship was with him? Â
Finally, you turned in his hold to look at him directly in the eyes. The orange tint of the sun was hitting his skin and igniting his blue eyes, making you think of those beautiful renaissance pictures and portraits that you saw in the past. Druig was always beautiful, but now seeing him like this and being beyond vulnerable with you made him even more beautiful. Â
âIt sounds horrible for me to want you to stay here with me,â Druig reasoned, seeing that I wasnât saying anything to him in his statement a few seconds beforehand, âYou probably have a life outside of here with Ajak and the rest of them, and I would only be holding you back by having you stay hereââ
âStop,â You hushed him, seeing him close his mouth as you slowly shook your head at him. That hesitance was there in his eyes, almost second-guessing himself with what he was telling and confessing to you. Druig was never to be fully open and exposed constantly, he almost had to psyche himself up when it came to being exposed and vulnerable. Makkari helped him from time to time, and now you were helping him too. Yet thinking of not being near him, not having him around to light your life and bring you happiness again, it was a heartache you would never want.Â
You kissed him in the lavender field, finding it easy as breathing and calming like the wind. You both were holding each other gently and soothingly, nothing rush or desperate was needed at that moment when you held him in your arms. It was so easy to kiss him, almost organic as he kissed you back softly and with fragility. You had about 400 years of meeting him in secret, it felt like a secret, in all honesty, to grow this love you had for him. Your souls belong to each other at that point, and when he pressed one last kiss into your lips with his fingers in your hair and your own touching his hips to keep him, you felt more at home than you ever did before.
âYou are my home,â you whispered against his lips as still stayed so close to him, âYouâve been my home since I first came here all those years ago, Druig. I donât ever want to be away from you, okay? Just you and me, always.â
You were sealing it with a promise for him, telling him that you were willing to leave the others behind to just have him. It sounded easy for you, but by the way he was watching you and holding you close, you could see it was affecting him more. His eyes were starting to water, letting your statement that you told Druig to sink into him and be real for him to digest. Perhaps he was afraid you were going to run away from him, from this home he made. Â
As the sun stetted on the both of you embraced in the lavender field that Druig created to show his love for you, your heart never felt fuller and safer. You kissed away every tear that fell from his eyes, tracing away the sadness and relief he was experiencing to replaced it with your love and affection for him. You knew he was feeling alone for so long, helping the villagers with all he had and getting nothing back in return. Â
He didnât have to ask, but you were going to pour back into him with everything you had.

Matt Murdock liked to tell his friends that you'd met at work.
Work being that you were both vigilantes who tended to accidentally rip the shit out of Hell's Kitchen.
Things then hadn't panned out the way you'd expected. And even what you'd thought was impossible had happened, it only continued. Life kept getting weirder and weirder, barely staying the same for weeks at a time.
This time two years ago, you see, Matt Murdock had been your everything. He was a complicated man; a contradictory one too. There wasn't anything specific in the Bible about putting on a devil suit and going out at night to beat the shit out of criminals, but he didn't like to think about that. Vigilantes probably hadn't existed in Biblical times, right? So there wasn't anything technically wrong them. That's what you had joked to him the first time you'd met on a roof-top exactly twenty six months ago. It had only taken a few more sarcastic jabs at his job, faith, and personality in general before he'd fallen head over heels for you.
Like him, your relationship was also deeply complex. You fit perfectly into the Daredevil side of him; you always vehemently denied being a side-kick, but you helped in every way you knew how. Most notably in imprisoning Wilson Fisk, but you also supported every single one of his ventures. That was what Matt had needed, really. Someone who showed up. Someone who helped in a fight and cleaned him up after. He had never realised quite how lonely his life had become until you showed up with your sarcastic commentary and out-spoken nature.
It was Matt's daily life that you struggled to navigate. There was no easy way to introduce you to Karen or Foggy -- how could he? How could he ever explain that one? Because sure, you had a life and a day job but there was no good explanation for how someone like you and someone like him could ever cross paths. Moreover, how you could ever end up together.
None of the mattered when you were running across rooftops together, or ducking behind chimneys in tears of laughter as criminals ran by you. Nothing compared to the soft moments of stitching each other up, or secretly repairing Matt's suit whenever he went out to court in the day. Truth be told, you could have spent your life-time in that little bubble. Just you and him against the world; Daredevil and the person who helped him fight crime and was slightly less of a main character but definitely not his sidekick. The outside world was hard to ignore, though. Reality had to come creeping in eventually, seeping in through the cracks of your foundations like an unwelcome visitor to your safe-house.
You had a good few months - nearly a year - together before that fact become harder and harder to ignore. Even behind the soft morning together, and the stolen kisses during your night-time escapades, you could no longer ignore the obvious. Things were falling apart. Your relationship was steaming towards nothing but a dead-end and a bad-break up - but to give credit where it was due, it wasn't for lack of trying. You clutched at straws for weeks, trying to breath life into a dead horse; trying to revive what had once been. It just took a catalyst for things to things to really, properly end.
Income Frank Castle.
The man was a bastard, really. A killing machine with no remorse and zero concern for his consequences. Your first meeting with him had been on a rainy, dark night in the Hudson Yards. You'd both come for the same man - an ex-gang member - and you'd half expected Frank to kill you. And when the gang member did try to kill you, Frank hadn't left you for dead. He'd taken out your shared enemy and dragged you to the nearest hospital, leaving you outside in a bloody puddle for a medic to find you.
A lot of Frank Castle's enemies were your enemies too. Bad, bad people who you nor Matt ever found the courage to kill off; his being religious reasons, and yours being that you valued human life a little too much. Still, you found it easy to view Frank's crimes in a grey area. Maybe you even understood his reasons. You just never in a million years thought that that would be the straw that broke the camel's back. In fact, it felt like a lot more than just that. It felt like the bullet that wiped the camel dead to the floor.
So, you packed and moved out. Took your things across Hell's Kitchen to a shitty little apartment. It was nothing like Matt's place - no high ceilings or spacey living rooms. No bath tub or working elevator. Worst of all, there was no him. There was no Matt to come home to; no Matt to wake you up with coffee on your nightstand or to wrap his arms around you when things became a little too much.
Your new apartment, however, was on Frank Castle's new stomping ground.
Now that he was assumed dead, Frank had all the time in the world to carry out his revenge on some of the worst men in the city. At the same time, you carried out your own missions at night - mostly saving cats from trees and helping old ladies cross the road, but there was a little gang territory there too. Mostly in an attempt to avoid Matt, you kept yourself to yourself - but your shared interests meant that some of your work would over-lap with Frank's.
You weren't an idiot, and neither was he. He knew who Matt was. He knew who you were. He'd seen you lingering beside Matt at the trial - and he'd seen you both retire back to the same apartment at night. Frank also couldn't pretend not to notice that you'd stopped doing that now. That you and the Devil had completely parted your ways, right from working together down to where you slept at night.
Your work had never been influenced by Matt. It just so happened that you wanted to fight the same bad guys - at least that's what it had been up until you met the Punisher. After that, your perspective had changed a little.
And it was through that epiphany that you began to get a little...cockier. Started doing more dangerous things; chasing meaner criminals and using better weapons. It was fun at first, exploring the new found freedom you have. Maybe Matt had been more of a restraint than anything; with his strong beliefs and influence on, you'd always stuck to what you knew; mid-level crime fighting. Now, you were moving up in the world. One night it was gang-members, the next escaped prisoners. All bad people; all worst ones than before.
That was how you ended up almost bleeding out on a roof-top above one of Hell's Kitchens busiest bodega. During the dead of the night, you'd tripped and fallen in a fight - now you had a twisted ankle and your own knife lodged in your leg. That was not how you pictured yourself dying. Not that you'd even given it much thought, but some part of you figured Matt might have been by your side. It was just your luck that this was the one night he'd chosen to explore the other side of the Kitchen. Not the one you were dying on, sadly.
"Fuck," you muttered to yourself. You couldn't move; couldn't stand up or call for help. Not if you wanted to stay out of prison.
You jolted slightly when you heard the sound of foot-steps round the side of one of the water tanks on the roof.
"...Ma - Daredevil?" you quickly remembered not to use his name half-way through your cry. There was no answer. "I have a gun-"
"- no, you don't," a gruff voice cut you off. A moment later, Frank Castle appeared from the shadows. "If you had a gun, you wouldn't be bleeding out on the floor, would ya?"
Propping yourself up on your elbows, you let out a huff. Anyone else would have run away (or tried to, given your situation). Not you. You didn't feel the need to. Frank had saved your life before. You had the same enemies. What was the saying...the enemy of my enemy is not my friend because my ex hates his guts but I still trust him because we hate the same bastards? Yeah, something like that.
Frank knelt down beside you. "You shouldn't be going after the Kitchen Irish on your own. They're dangerous and that makes you stupid."
"Aren't you meant to be dead?" you asked. "I preferred it when you were dead."
"Okay, smart-ass, go easy," he huffed. "D'you want my help or not?"
"Fucking obviously," you muttered. "Please."
Frank shrugged off his jacket, placing it beside you for the minute. You ignored the fact he was covered head to do in what was presumably someone else's blood, choosing instead to watch as he tore off a shred of his shirt. He tied it tightly around your leg, creating some kind of make-shift tourniquet.
"So, no Red around to help you tonight, huh?" he asked.
"Not tonight," you murmured.
"Lover's quarrel-"
"- I don't wanna talk about it," you cut him off, "not when I'm about to bleed out on a roof-top."
"Each to their own," Frank grunted. "I'm gonna count to three, okay? And on three, you're gonna hop up and limp a few blocks with me, yeah? Just over that way towards Harlem."
"Yeah, okay," you nodded.
"Okay - one, two -"
Frank stopped, pulling you off the ground and up into his arms. You let out a yelp as you did, the shock of his sudden grip catching you off-guard. Your hands instinctively clung onto the fabric of his shirt - maybe it was support, maybe it was for comfort. You didn't know, but either way, you knew in your soul that he wouldn't drop you. Call it intuition if you will.
"That wasn't on three," you said through gritted teeth, barely able to talk through the pain.
"Right you are," Frank hoisted you up a little bit. He began the descent from the rooftop, both your weapons now tucked away in his back pocket. "But you wouldn't have got up on three."
"Yes, I would."
"Bullshit," his body shook beneath you as he chuckled. "I know humans. I know humans in pain. They don't do jack-shit at the best times, let alone with a knife in their goddamn leg."
"Look at you, Castle," you shot back. "Such an understanding man."
"Right," he rolled his eyes.
The two of you stayed silent for the rest of the walk back to...wherever the hell it was you were going. Did Frank even have an apartment? You'd always worked in the assumption that he slept in drains and rummaged for food from bins. Like a raccoon.
Still, it would have made sense for him to have a place to crash. He was clean shaven every time you saw him; his hygiene seemed pretty fucking impeccable too. Not like the rest of the crusty ass criminals lingering around the dark corners of New York. Their clothes were always thick with blood and caked in dirt. You figured, though, that if Frank was happy to commit vast amounts of homocide, he probably didn't draw the line at robbing an Old Navy mannequin of its clothes whenever he needed new ones.
Turns out that Frank did have a place - it was a few blocks south of Central Park, tucked away in the corner of a surprisingly nice building. It wasn't anything like you'd expected; neat, tidy, a little bare. That checked out though. He spent years in the military - a place that prided itself on routine and order. Everything was perfectly organised, from the boots by the door to the chipped mugs on the side. What you hadn't expected was for Frank to have a dog. The pit-bull was sat patiently in his little bed, completely unfazed by the sudden presence of two people drenched in red.
"Nice place," you broke the silence.
Frank placed you down on the sofa, giving a light shrug in response.
"Keeps me dry," he said. He shrugged his jacket off and tossed it aside, reaching for a bottle of vodka from the coffee table, then pressing it into your hand.
"No thanks," you shook your head. "Not much of a drinker."
"Sweetheart, I'm about to pull a knife out of your leg," Frank shot back. "I suggest you down that thing like it's the elixir of goddamn life, okay?"
"Right," you took the bottle in defeat.
Naturally, it tasted disgusting. Burnt the inside of your mouth and made you pull a face that elicited a snort from the Punisher himself. It was weird to see him like this - cracking jokes and sharing his alcohol with you. You'd spent the better part of two weeks watching his trial; watching as your then-boyfriend and his partner tried so hard to get him thrown in jail for the rest of his living days. That had been a stressful few weeks for Matthew. He'd been tired and cranky and...angrier than usual.
Sometimes you wondered if it had all been bad-timing. If everything bad had just come at once, and your relationship ending was merely collateral damage and there was no actual reason for it. Because if there was no reason for it, then maybe it could be fixed, right? Maybe you and Matt could reunite once more.
That wasn't the case, though. You remembered those few weeks; tired green eyes hidden behind red-rimmed glasses, fists bloody and cut up from how hard he'd hit the wall. Court documents scattered all over the kitchen table and tense conversations over dinner. The arguments, the tip-toeing around one another, the weight of the world on your fucking shoulders. Maybe your relationship wasn't toxic or mean but hell, it had brought you too much grief. Your lives were too hectic and chaotic to ever consider the idea of fully loving another person. At least each other.
"Mother fucker!"
Your voice cried out through the apartment - in his defence, Frank had given you a warning before he pulled the blade out your leg. If you hadn't been too busy thinking about your ex, you might have heard him.
"Ah, so you are here," Frank muttered. "You zoned out. I thought you'd died or something."
"No such luck," you groaned in pain.
"Deep in thought, huh?" he asked.
"Something like that."
"This next part is gonna hurt too," he said.
The next few minutes were tense; you never thought that you could have sterilised wounds with vodka, but the more you know. By that point, you'd experienced so much distress that you barely felt Frank stitching you up. He recounted some old story from the war in an attempt to distract you, but you couldn't have recalled a single detail of it.
"The good news is that you're not gonna die," Frank declared, wrapping a bandage around your leg. "The bad news is that you're gonna have an ugly scar."
"Makes a good story round the dinner table, though," you replied.
"Sure does," he agreed. "You ever been shanked through the leg before this?"
"A couple times, but not that deep," you replied. "I used to get stitched up by someone that...that Red knew."
"So your boy had his own medic?" he took a seat beside you, eyebrows raised.
"Not quite," you shook your head. "Just a nurse with a good heart."
"And your boy never stitched you up? Not once?" Frank asked.
"He did," you said. "He tried to keep me out the fight a lot, though. Never liked me getting involved all that much."
Frank snorted. "That's bullshit. You can hold your own better than him."
"You've saved my life like twice now," you reminded him. "I wouldn't call that holding my own."
"I know. You pretended to be a lawyer so you could break into the interview room and be all gracious on my ass, remember?" he said. "I mean shit like that. Shit that you do. You're naive as fuck but I have mad respect for you."
"Naive?!"
"You brought a knife to a gunfight with one of New York's filthiest gangs," Frank explained. "Fought Fisk for what...two years?"
"Two and a half," you corrected him.
"There you go, then - you might be naive, but you got heart," he said. "Never lose that."
You saw a lot more of Frank after that night. Maybe you wouldn't go as far as to say you were friends, but you'd definitely upgraded from man who saved my life once to man who saved my life twice and has a questionably decent sense of humour. Because despite him being rugged and rough around the edges and just a tiny, tiny bit vengeful, you felt safe with Frank - at least when you were on the right side. You figured he might have not given you such a warm welcome if you were still with Matt.
That subject didn't come up for the first few weeks of your odd...partnership, was it? Whatever it was, it had started with Frank always just happening to be right where you were. Whenever you set your sights on your next target, he'd be there to help you. Even if it was the most minor thing in the world, like the guy who had held up your favourite bagel store last week, or the woman who scammed your neighbour. The most menial, harmless people who you just wanted to rough up a little bit. He'd be there.
You didn't question. You didn't want to question it, mainly because you feared for the answer. Who was Frank roughing up every night in order to get your location? Maybe he was just stalking you.
On the second or third week - of which almost every night had been filled with his alarming presence and increasingly deep chats - he finally brought Matthew up. You knew it was coming eventually. All your past ventures as a vigilante had involved him. There was a lot of history and it had to come out at some point.
You were perched on some scaffolding uptown, having extended your search for ones of the Dogs of Hell slightly past the Kitchen. It felt safer in a way, because you knew Matt wouldn't be around to hear anything. Maybe that's why Frank had waited til that specific moment to ask.
"So," he began. "You and Red - what's the deal there?"
"There isn't one," you replied. "Not anymore."
"What, he dump you or something?"
"It was a mutual dumping," you shot back. "Nothing in particular happened. I mean...shit happened, but that's exactly it. Life just got in the way. Kinda beyond our control."
Frank snorted. "C'mon. You don't just end a relationship because shit happened, that's not how love works-"
"- right, because you're the world's leading expert, aren't you?" you cut him off. "It was strangling the life out of us and it became more effort than it was worth."
Frank glanced over at you, uncharacteristically silent for a moment. He had a lot of grievances with Matt Murdock - a lot - but right then, his number one reason for beefing with him was that he hadn't tried just a little harder to keep you around. Because Frank hadn't known you long, but he did see something in you. Something of value; not to just to him, but to every human in the world. You'd fought and you'd maimed people just as much as he or Matt had, but you hadn't lost your spark. You were still outspoken and sarcastic even in the face of death; you never gave up a fight and you seemed to take every inconvenience in your stride. Not many people rolled with the punches like you did.
Frank couldn't deny that he didn't know you all that well. Not in the way Matt did. The only image he had of you was the one you had shown him. Still, it was more than enough for Frank to start wondering if Matt was just a little bit crazy for letting you slip through his fingers.
"He didn't fight for you?" Frank asked. "I know the man doesn't beg but hell, he didn't even push a little bit?"
"He was so tired at that point that he practically held the fucking door open," you quietly replied. "Him and I were never meant to happen, really. We were kidding ourselves for a long time."
"But you loved him?"
"Of course I did," you didn't mean to snap, but what kind of fucking question was that?
"And he loved you?"
You glanced over at him. "Yeah - and before you give me spiel on I would have fought my wife a thousand times over because I lost her just remember that there were times where I almost did lose Matt. Where he almost lost me. And we still couldn't make it work."
"Fuck," Frank muttered. "You predicting my lectures now?"
You shrugged. "Clearly, I'm spending too much time around you."
"Can I just ask you one more thing?"
"Well, there's no sign of the bastard we're looking for, so..."
"Did he protect you?"
You thinned your eyes at him. "Course he did."
"No, I mean did he really protect you?" Frank pushed.
You swallowed, trying to ignore the question. Deep down, you knew that Matt would have done anything for you - almost anything. If it came down to him having to end someone's life to save yours, you knew how it would have gone. That was a far fetched scenario for most but one that you almost found yourself in far too many times. Every time, you and Matt had both escaped alive. You'd made it out without him having to make that decision. That was just dumb lucky really.
"I know what you're getting at Frank," you murmured. "You're pointing to the fact that I would kill for him, but he wouldn't kill for me."
"You said it. Not me."
You let out a derivative snort, standing up. "Why the fuck do you care? Why are you asking so many questions?"
"I'm making conversation-"
"- so ask me about my day then! Or...my favourite shows!" you exclaimed.
"Okay, fine," Frank held his hands up in surrender. "How was your day?"
"Shitty," you snapped. "No thanks to you."
He didn't try to follow you when you up and left. You were glad about that.
You kept to yourself for a few days; stewing in annoyance at Frank and a little in heart-break. Even though it had been nearly four months since you and Matt had broken up, there was still hurt there. You didn't feel much for him anymore but you had, at some point, loved him. For the better part of two years, in fact. It just left an ache in your chest to know that it had been a little one-sided. You managed to fit him into every aspect of your existence, but Matt had only ever made room for you in one side of his life. You'd given him your all. He'd half-assed it.
Rather than going out at night, you stayed in your apartment. The city was safe in the hands of Frank and Matt - maybe not so much if they ever crossed paths, but you knew for a fact they actively avoided one another. It was a miracle that Matt had retired the idea of taking out Frank; instead, he just focused his energies else-where.
After three nights of staying in, you were woken one night by a tapping at your bedroom window. It was not long after midnight, and your first instinct was to reach for your newly acquired gun. You'd done so on The Punisher's advice.
Speaking of the Devil (not that one, though), Frank was relieved to be greeted by the sound of the safety clicking off. It meant you were taking what he'd said seriously. That knives did jack shit and that at least bullets went through walls.
"Attagirl."
"What the fuck, Frank?!" you demanded, kicking the sheets aside. "You can't break into my house-"
"- there was word on the street that you were dead," Frank cut you off. "I ain't seen you for days, either. How was I to know better than the fact you're just holing up in here watching Friends?!"
"Why would I be dead?" you asked.
"Just word on the street," he quietly said. "I was beating the shit outta one of the rats from the Cartel and they just...they said something of concern, that's all."
You let out a sigh, tossing the gun aside.
That was the first time you saw Frank getting...bothered. He had no reason to care about you; certainly not one enough to break into your goddamn house at some ungodly hour.
"Well, I'm alive!" you declared.
"Really? Here I was, thinking I was having a good ol' chat with your ghost ," he deadpanned. "It would just be nice if you gave me some of warning when you're gonna fuck off for days at a time like that, yeah?"
"How?" you pushed. "I don't have your number, Frank. Every time I've met you before this, you've just rocked up outta the blue."
"Okay, I'll give you that," he muttered.
You dropped back into your bed, reaching out towards your night-stand. There was a moment of fumbling - and one of tossing around random crap - before you produced an old flip phone.
"Take this," you tossed it at him. "It's a burner phone. I've got the number saved in my phone and mine is saved to that one too."
"Thank you," Frank replied. "D'you mind if I stay for a while? It's fucking freezing out there."
You pondered for a moment - Frank Castle in your home? What a weird fucking thought. Had he asked you a few weeks ago, you would have run in the opposite direction. He wasn't the same man anymore to you, though. He was no longer the Punisher. He was Frank Castle, who you now knew like an old friend. You knew that he was a terrible singer and that his favourite band was Guns N' Roses. You knew that he was partial to a good Taylor Swift song and that he could barely shoot with his left hand. You knew him.
"Sure," you shrugged.
Pulling aside the covers, you shuffled over so that Frank could join you. He kicked off his boots and jacket - you were pleasantly surprised to see that for once in his life, he wasn't drenched in blood. There was just a black t-shirt and sweats; ones that felt comfy against your bare legs as he slipped into the bed beside you.
You weren't sure what was happening, even less so why you were letting it happen. Nothing had made much sense since you and Matt had broken up, and you'd just stopped questioning the why's of things a long time ago. Frank was a steady presence and that was what you needed in that moment.
Neither of you said anything when you woke up the next morning, still in the same bed. You'd completely fallen asleep on Frank's side and he'd instinctively wrapped his arms around you. It felt natural - like you were supposed to be there with him, bundled up in blankets and saying nothing at all. It was like two pieces of a completely different puzzle that had fit together nicely. It also made a picture that made absolutely no fucking sense but...wasn't art subjective? Whatever picture it created, whatever confusing reality became of it, you liked it. Frank liked it. It was a weird, unreadable abstract piece but it brought comfort.
"We're gonna have to get up at some point," you murmured.
"I ain't got anywhere to be," Frank replied. "Do you?"
"Absolutely not," you said.
"Good," he muttered. "I gotta get some rest anyways if I'm gonna keep beating up bad guys for you."
"With me," you corrected him. "You might bring a certain amount of power but I have the brains."
"I'm not so sure you do, sunshine," he snorted.
"Complain all you want but I know you enjoy protecting me," you shot back. "You wouldn't keep showing up otherwise, would you?"
"I'm doing it outta the good of my heart," Frank insisted.
"I'm pretty sure you have a revolver where your heart should be, Frank Castle."
He knew then that he would do much more for you than Matt Murdock ever would. He wouldn't just stop at wiping out someone for you - he would do it to anyone who just hurt you. Whether it was one person or ten. Even a hundred. You'd accidentally become important to him and like hell was he gonna sit around and not protect you within every inch of his life.
It was a complicated situation to navigate, though. Frank wasn't good with feelings at the best of times, let alone when it came to the ex-partner of his sworn enemy. That territory was beyond complex. It was filled with land-mines and hidden traps and god knew what else. It was one that he couldn't even begin to deal with - but it was also one he couldn't run away from.
Things only continued on that up-hill trajectory after your morning together. Frank would stop by a few nights a week when he didn't see you, or you'd come stumbling back to his after a fight. You always said it was to see Max, your new favourite pit-bull, and Frank would always pretend to agree. It was nothing to do with the fact that you were the first person he'd loved in almost a decade, or the fact that you only ever felt safe with him.
There were some complications though.
Complications being that Frank knew some part of you would always love Matt.
In the same way you could never take away his love for Maria, Frank could never take away your love for Matt. Even if you stopped being in love with him, the man still had a piece of your heart. Whatever version of you had existed in the two years you spent together lived on in your memories. It lived on in the fact you saw Matt everywhere you looked in Hell's Kitchen; your favourite bar, the place you had your first kiss, the roof-top you'd first dropped the L-word.
Frank knew that. He knew even more that someone as bright and as sparky as you should end up with the guy with morals. A guy like Matt.
So, he just swallowed it down. It didn't mean that Frank stopped seeing or hanging out with you - in fact, things just stayed the same. That weirdly intimate limbo that you found yourself in just carried on. You continued to fall asleep with him and wake up beside him. The banter and flirty conversations persisted. Anything more than that was scary. Anything less was even worse.
Frank was good at hiding the fact he didn't like talking about Matt. It was just as well really, because neither did you. You just wanted to shut that history down and move on. Whether that meant with Frank, you weren't sure. All you knew was that Matthew Murdock belonged in the past. The future, however, was uncertain.
By three or so months into your little adventure with Frank, you had a routine. It differed from night to night but generally, you would always call or text him by 9PM. Sometimes, it was the location of where you wanted to meet. Other times, it was just a message to check in and let him know you were staying in that night. Either way, it brought comfort to him to always know that you were safe, even if the random emojis you sent never showed up on his shitty little flip-phone.
Naturally, when Frank hadn't heard from you for a day or two, he became worried. He brushed off the fact you hadn't texted him for one night; maybe you were busy. Maybe you'd fallen asleep. There was a million reasonable explanations for one goddamn night.
But two? No. He couldn't believe you would go two whole nights without contacting him, or making an appearance at his door. It had become such a common occurrence that it felt out of character for you to be so absent. Something was up.
Your apartment was empty, but your phone was there. That in itself was a massive sign that things were wrong, because the device was like a fifth limb for you. There was untouched food on the stove and a half-eaten pot pie on the side. That was wrong too. You weren't messy. Your apartment was always spick-and-span. Cluttered, yes, but messy? No.
Frank might as well have gone out his fucking mind looking for you. There weren't many places you could be - at least not ones you could go without telling him. If your passport was still in your nightstand, and wallet still in your bag, you couldn't have gone far. At least he could limit your location down to the whole of North fucking America, right?
The last place he checked was the one he'd been dreading the most.
Matt Murdock's place.
Okay, so maybe it wasn't the most realistic place for you to be, but Matt might have known something. Frank hated that he had to turn to him in order to protect you, but that was the main thing - he was protecting you. Or at least trying to.
"Red!" he yelled from outside the door. "I know you're in there! It's...it's important. It ain't nothing to do with me or you, it's about-"
Frank stopped talking when the door opened. He knew that Matt Murdock was going to be on the other side, but it felt startling to see him outside of the red suit. At least when the matter was to do with...vigilante business.
"You've got some nerve showing up at my door, Frank Castle-"
"- is she here?" he demanded. "Is (name) here?"
"What do you want with them?"
"I ain't seen my girl in days, Murdock," Frank pushed past Matt, entering the apartment. "I'm going out of my fucking mind!"
"Your girl?" The words rolled off of Matt's tongue with confusion.
"I...I can't go into it right now," he admitted. "I just need to know if she's safe."
"She is," Matt said. "She's in the bedroom."
"In the...are you fucking kidding me?"
Frank Castle wasn't a quiet person. His voice carried through walls - multiple walls. And when you heard it, you immediately came to find him.
It looked...questionable. You, exiting Matt's room. In his clothes, no less. What looked even worst was the bruise around your eye and your split lip. You'd been beaten up pretty badly and Frank's brain was working so goddamn quickly that he couldn't piece together a single explanation. At least not one that he liked.
"Frank?" you gently greeted him.
"H-hey," he stuttered. "You wanna tell me what's goin' on?"
Your eyes fell to the floor. "Not really."
"Of course," he snorted. "Why would you owe me an explanation, huh? Why would you owe me anything after..."
He trailed off, then stopped completely.
"After what?" Matt interjected.
"I've saved your girl's ass twice," Frank glanced between the two of you. "You wanna tell him about that, huh? How I rescued you when you two were still together? About how you stole his bar card to sneak through the court and see me?"
"Frank," you tried to reach out to him. "You're getting the wrong end of the stick."
"Yeah, no," he snorted. "I don't think I am."
"Will someone just tell me what the hell is going on?!" Matt demanded.
"You wanna know what's going on, Red, huh?" Frank turned to face him. "We've spent every day over the last three months together. You know what she's like, don't you? Clumsy as fuck and all brave heart. A certified dumb-ass, right? Yeah, well, I helped her fight. Helped her wipe out Kitchen Irish and the Cartel. Stitched her up and all. Looked out for her, lost sleep over her. And then she disappears off the face of the fucking Earth for two goddamn days and I go out my skull trying to find her, and...she's here. With you. All in cahoots, even though I know for a goddamn fact that you don't deserve her for a second."
"Frank!" you snapped. "If you would shut the hell up for just one second and let me explain yourself, you'll see that you've got the wrong idea!"
"You're in his bedroom, in his clothes," he dejectedly said. "Don't lie. Don't act like I'm a fool-"
"- I was kidnapped," you cut him off. "The Cartel kidnapped me, okay? And Matt rescued me. That's all it is."
Matt, who had completely given in on trying to understand what the fuck was going on, gave a shrug. So what if you were gallanting about town with Frank Castle? That wouldn't have even been the weirdest thing he'd seen this week. It didn't mean that the idea of you and Frank completely killed him inside, but he didn't have the energy to bring it up. Your relationship was dead to the world. Nothing he could say or do would bring you back, so why bother trying? He was just grateful he'd rescued you in time - and maybe a little ostentatious that Frank hadn't.
"She's telling the truth," Matt said. "I don't know what's going on between you two - and frankly, I don't want to know - but I can assure you that we're not in cahoots."
"See?" you urged. "Just...you just gotta listen to me, Frank. Okay?"
"You two clearly need to talk - and I need to go for a walk whilst I get my head around this whole thing," Matt announced. "Feel free to be gone when I get back."
A silence fell over the apartment as he picked up his jacket and left. Did you feel guilty? Absolutely.
Guilty that you'd worried them both; guilty that Matt had been dragged into the middle of the situation. Most of all, you felt guilty that you were realising your love for Frank Castle right in the middle of your ex's living room. Only about six feet away from the very place you'd both once laid your heads, amongst...other things.
"The Cartel got me the other night," you quietly began. "Dragged me off the street when I went out to grab some shopping. They were trying to get through me to get to you and...well, Matt got to me. Took a couple hours but he saved my ass, just because he'd been patrolling that area by chance."
"They wanted to get to me?" Frank's eyes flickered up from the floor.
"Yeah. They thought we were...in cahoots," you tried to fight back a smile at the phrase. "I told them they were wrong but hell, Frankie, now I ain't so sure."
He scrunched up his nose. "I was always worried about Red. Thought you were always gonna have feelings for him and all that."
"I'm always gonna care for him, but I don't love him anymore," you said. "That's the difference."
"The difference between what?"
"Between him and you - I don't love Matt."
"I know I said earlier that I ain't stupid but hell, are you even speaking English right now?"
"I love you!" you blurted. "Is that clear enough for you?"
"Clear as fucking day."
Frank reached out towards you, taking you by the waist. He crashed his lips on yours, a large hand resting on the back of your head. You know that feeling after you've been underwater for a long time and you come up for air? That's what it felt like. As though you were finally breathing after weeks and weeks of holding your breath; as though you needed his touch the same way you needed air in your lungs.
"You're gonna have to be patient with me, because I don't know what the hell I'm doing," Frank admitted, resting his forehead against yours. "What I do know is that I love you too. And I'm going to protect you with my life, okay? I ain't ever leaving your side from now on. I'm finding the men that hurt you and I'm going to maim them."
"How romantic."
"Heck, I'll get Red to help me-"
"- yeah, I don't think he will," you fought back a smile. "You know I'm gonna have to talk to him later, right? I owe him an explanation. Not that I can explain a single second of this."
Frank smiled. "Yeah, I know. For now, though, just....just-"
Summary:Â Daryl never expected a college-educated city girl to fall for him, and you never expected a rough-around-the-edges country boy to catch feelings for you. But the apocalypse is the great equalizer, and in these end times, all you have to hold onto is each other.Â
Notes: 3700 words, set pre-Season 1. A little note for my readers of colour, because Iâm trying to keep this reader as racially ambiguous as possible: Merle is racist as hell, but heâs also probably rude enough to indiscriminately harass any young woman, so thatâs whatâs going to happen here! More notes at the end of the chapter about the medical/scientific stuff.
Day 1
âPatient was flown in from Linden County Hospital just now, in critical condition after a thoracic gunshot wound 4 hours ago. Bulletâs fragmented so badly that they couldnât do the surgery on site.â
Your teeth clench hard and pain shoots through the side of your head. Temporomandibular joint dysfunction, you note to yourself. I gotta stop grinding my teeth and get myself a nightguard. Of course, thatâs the least of your worries as a resident in Emory Hospitalâs Trauma Care Department, undergoing trial-by-fire even though youâd only gotten your MD a week ago. With the hospitals overwhelmed these days, you hardly have time to sleep, let alone commit to any self-care.Â
âShit,â you grit out, rounding the corner. âPulmonary artery damage?â you guess.Â
Nurse Johnson nods beside you, her eyes scanning the clipboard. âItâs pretty bad. Bad enough that Linden County couldnât do it themselves. Iâve seen Dr. Diaz handle worse, butâ ââ
âBut sheâs not available to supervise, huh?â Your fists clench, and you notice the moisture between your fingers. Theyâll dry out again after you wash your hands for the fourtieth time today, at least. âShe still tied up with that freakish new disease?"Â
Johnson nods vigorously, and you frown. Emory, Piedmont, Northside: all of the hospitals in Atlanta and far beyond it are being burnt through by a novel infectious agent with an apparent mortality rate of 100%. Almost fucking unheard of, you think. Rabies is also 100%, you suppose, and your pet theory is that the new disease is a genetically related virus, except the prophylactic rabies vaccine is fucking useless. The rabies immunoglobulin shotsâ âuseless. Antibiotics, antifungals, antiviralsâ âuseless. Even symptom treatment, palliative careâuseless. No one knows what the fuck is decimating the American people, and worse yet, the military is fucking around in the hospitals now. Your pathologists and hospital-affiliated scientists canât take a look; only the CDC and USAMRIID have access to samples now.
The one saving grace is that the new disease isnât that contagious. As long as patients are bound up and muzzled in the aggressive phase, they canât infect any of the hospital staff, though of course, no one likes to tie up their patients. Do no harm, the Hippocratic Oath echoes in your mind, that vow youâd made to yourself upon becoming a doctor.Â
But the American medical system has no choice right now.
As the two of you walk toward the surgery room, you canât help but notice the feverish bodies strapped down to gurneys, moaning through their surgical masks and sweating through their gowns. The hospital is so overwhelmed that patients are spilling out of rooms and almost covering every inch of wall in the hallways. Poor souls.
But none of that matters right now. When you enter the surgery room, the world around you disappears. You canât hear the moaning patients and thoughts of Doctor Diaz leaves your mind. Thereâs only your patient from Linden County on the operating table, only his pallid face and the bullet fragments in his chest.Â
You glance down, the dressings on his leg not escaping you either.
"Howâd he end up like this?"Â
Johnson glances down at her notes.Â
"Heâs a Sheriffâs Deputy. Got shot in an altercation while on duty. Got a wife and son at home."Â
Your mouth thins, and you glance at the patientâs wristband, eyes sweeping over his name. Poor guy, you think. Iâll get you home, Rick Grimes.
Day 5
You donât realize what the novel infectious agent really is until you see a patient die for the first time.
don't ask what this is, I was at school today and thought "does sukuna know what a hug is? has he ever experienced it?" and then I hopped onto the fluff train
sitting on the bed as you were reading, you barely heard the steps approaching the bedroom.
Yuji had gone to the kitchen to make himself a drink and take an aspirin for the headache that had bothered him the entire day.
so when you noticed a figure stepping into the room, you rose your gaze with a smile on your face.
but upon noticing the dark marks on his half naked body, your smile faltered a little.
"what's wrong with Yuji?" you asked Sukuna, noticing how the curse ran his eyes over you.
a smirk appeared on his lips.
"little shit felt too tired to stay in control, so I used the opportunity."
you nodded and turned back to your book.
by now, you were used to being alone with Sukuna.
during the first times, you had been frightened that he might hurt you to put Yuji under pressure or take you as some kind of hostage, but he had never done anything to you up til now.
probably because he didn't consider a mere human like you to be worth the time and effort.
sometimes, you even talked a bit with each other, even though he always kept his sarcastic behaviour and answered with rude replies.
but at some point, you had got used to it.
you saw him massaging his temple and you let down your book once more.
"Yuji had a headache earlier, that's why he went to the kitchen to take an aspirin"
Sukuna let out an annoyed groan, his deep voice echoing through the room.
"great, he only gives me the opportunity to switch when his body is in a shitty condition."
for a second, it was silent and you only watched him.
then, you rose your voice.
"why don't you come to bed?"
he rose a brow and searched for a hidden threat or trap in your words.
when he didn't find any, a wide, evil smirk appeared on his lips, his fangs shining in the dim light of the bedroom, his four eyes staring right at you.
"oh, are you that needy? that brat can't give it to you the right way, huh?"
you only shook your head and patted the spot next to you, the linen still warm from Yuji's body.
"I meant to cuddle. to rest helps with the headache."
Sukuna stared at you for a second, then, a laugh fell from his lips.
"you really are daring, asking ME, the king of curses to cuddle. I'm not your lap dog, so don't treat me like one"
"why don't you try it? are you scared of something?"
his smile disappeared and his upper lip twitched a little in disgust, especially when he saw the little grin on your lips.
"I'm scared of nothing." he growled back.
before you were able to answer, new pain rushed through his head and he grimaced, massaging his temple again.
mumbling something you didn't understand, he stepped in front of the bed, hands buried in yuji's sweatpants and looking at you as if he waited for instructions.
you gave him a short, confused look, then, you patted the spot next to you again.
"lay down."
he rose a brow, but followed, laying down on his back on the mattress.
you suppressed a smile when he gave you an awaiting look and you rested your body in the sheets as well, stretching an arm out on the pillow.
'"you can rest on my arm."
he gave you a kind of bewildered look.
"isn't the one in control supposed to wrap their arms around the other?"
you shrugged your shoulders.
"it can be comforting to be the little spoon sometimes."
Sukuna clicked his tongue, but did as you said, resting his head on the pillow so that your arm was right inside the empty space his neck created.
"you humans have some fucking weird trends. 'spoon', what a stupid word for this..." he growled and observed how you moved closer towards him.
when your hand rested on his shoulder, he flinched and tensed his body.
"don't worry, it's okay." you said, already expecting a rude answer.
you weren't surprised when he growled "don't act like you could hurt me, lowlife." and you smiled to yourself while you wrapped your arm around his shoulder, pulling him closer.
Yuji's skin was still warm and even though Sukuna was in control right now, his limbs and body felt just like they usually did.
your hand rose to the back of his head and you started to run your fingers through his soft hair, hearing how Sukuna let out a little growl at the massage against his head.
it almost sounded like a purr.
like an angered, bitter cat that allowed a human the honour to pet it.
you didn't say anything, just smiled while you rested your lips against his hairline, the exact same position you often laid in with Yuji.
and Sukuna seemed to notice, tried to remember what his vessel did whenever you embraced him like this.
he hesitantly rose his hand, as if he wanted to rest it on your hip, but eventually, he pulled both his hands to his chest, while he pulled his legs to his body, making himself smaller than he was.
after a few minutes in which you had just massaged his head, you dared to look down at his face, seeing that he had closed all four of his eyes.
when you started smiling again, one of the smaller ones opened and gave you an accusing glare.
"stop smiling at me like an idiot. you look ridiculous." he ordered with a growl.
you didn't stop, but you brought your mouth back to his hairline, so that he wouldn't see it.
"yea, yea, sure." was your sarcastic reply, while you pulled the blanket over both of you.
usually, the curse would've snapped something back, but right now, you felt how he slowly hurled deeper inside your warmth, reducing the space between the two of you.
he seemed so small and vulnerable like this, eyes closed, his body curled up to not grow cold.
suddenly, you wondered how hard it must've been, to not feel any touch or warmth for over 1000 years.
maybe, he had never experienced anything like this.
maybe he had been so uncertain about what to do because no one had ever put their arms around him.
the thought actually hurt you a little bit and a spark of sympathy for the demon in your arms bloomed inside of you.
when you heard him mumble a low "you're warm" against your neck, your smile grew and your body relaxed.
you continued to caress his scalp, drawing little circles against it that made him let out soft purrs, until his breathing became placid and slow.
slowly, your hand trailed towards his cheek and caressed the marks on Yuji's cheekbone, your touch careful to not wake him up.
unable to decide if you were lucky or just insane to have the king of curses fall asleep in your arms, you watched his face, the four closed eyes, the lightly parted lips.
even in sleep, he continued to look a little tensed, a small furrow still stuck in his brows.
you slowly rose your index finger and gently caressed the hair of his right eyebrow, before you allowed it to slide higher, following the outlines of the mark on his forehead.
you had no idea what they meant and Yuji probably did not know either.
right now, you noticed how little you actually knew of Sukuna, even though he was always around you, hearing every word the two of you spoke, probably being fully aware of your feelings and thoughts
but you decided to just allow him this little rest for now, to let him experience the warmth that radiated from you and wrapped him in safety.
after placing your hand at the back of his head again, you wanted to close your eyes, but before you were able to, you saw the marks slowly vanishing.
Yuji's hair slowly sank down, his face relaxed and he hurled deeper into your embrace, wrapping his arms around you in instinct.
a little chuckle went through you as you pushed a kiss against his forehead, loosing your hesitance as you wrapped both of your arms around him.
"maybe if you two didn't fight so much, you wouldn't be so tired all the time." you mumbled, before you rested your head on Yuji's, closing your own eyes.
Summary: You're an officer of NYPD, a woman not like the rest. He's a superhero.
A/N: I do not condone any actions he's done because he's a douche. I just thought you guys might like it. I should mention someone inspired this, but I don't remember their name. Hope you like it!
Police sirens constantly blared outside of the building where there was a hostage. Around 9 am on the clock it was alerted that a bank was being robbed to include there was a hostage situation. You drove up with a screech of your tires as you pulled up. Dressed in you're uniform, black jacket unbutton enough to wear you could see you're sky blue collared shirt. You're black-tie complimenting your outfit, along with you're sunglasses that have a blue lens. You're black dress pants with shoes. You didn't wear your heart, but you kept your hair tied back in a bun. You're walking talkie remained clipped to you're uniform as you made your way to the front of the bank surrounded.
You jogged up to the chief. "What we got?" You inquired to him as you glanced at him.
"Officer (Y/L/N)! So glad you could join us today." He says unhappily to you, you growl under you're breath and do an eye roll. You didn't mean to be late before, but it happened due to traffic. It got to the point where you had to flick on the sirens of the car and speed down the highway. You are late by five minutes. He was strict all by himself, but he was rougher on you than anyone in on the force. You could never understand why, you're Grandfather Ry, claimed he wanted you to strive to exceed his expectations. "You're lucky I don't fire your sorry arse! Coming in late when the alert was five minutes ago!"
You sighed at this before taking in a deep breath to keep you're cool. This week hasn't been the greatest, one of the cattle got loose from your grandfather's ranch so you spent 4 am to nearly 6 am getting it back the other day. Then yesterday you got food poisoning and ended up having to go home. Then came today, with the entire dang traffic. Now you're boss fuming at you for being a couple of minutes late, you only hope this was it for today.
Sometimes you wanted to quit but reminded yourself this is what you signed up for. Hatred and possibly difficult cases to deal with, all to help people and save some lives. "Apologises, Chief. I'm so sorry, it's just traffic when trying to get into the city is a pain. Especially with a car wreck at one. What do you need me to do?" You inquired he had that foul expression as if he was dead seriously mad still.
"You got a strategy?" He inquires to you. You nod in response. "Good. Present it." He demands to you, you went to the hood of the car where a map of the building was laid out. "He's more to the south, towards the east wing. We can't do anything, he's got six hostages." He explains to you, you study it before seeing the back of it marked. An exit gate was in the far back, did he block it? You wondered cooking up a scheme.
"I'll check the back door. IF its unlock, I'll go through the back, and you'll take four go through the front. But I'll have to check the back exit to know, if not I'll have to find another way, sound good?" You inquire seeking approval, he gave a firm nod at this. You take a vest and strap it on quickly. Jogging to back while keeping a firm grip on your gun attached to your belt.
Rain could be smelt from the sky as if it'll pour down anytime soon. You glanced around the back making sure no one by any chance was hiding. Inaudibly as possible you opened it praying that it was, and much to you're surprised, it was. You made sure to hold it slightly open and grabbed your walkie talkie. "Chief, the door is unlocked, do you copy? Send four men to the front. I'll go through the back. I repeat the door is opened."
"Officer (Y/L/N), go in" he commands. Stealthy as possible you enter and shut the door silently as possible. You grabbed your pistol and kept it down to your site ready to fire when needed. Squatting down you searched for the robber, seeing them with the mask. Keeping the hostages in a file line on their knees. You had to be calm, firm, and direct. You had to think fast, as you sucked in a breath as you're back pressed against the back of the counter. Swiftly you got making sure to keep your steps muted, you stay behind the counter. You heard the front door opening, it must've of been the four. "NYPD! Get on your knees and get down!" You commanded the robber. To you're dismay, it wasn't the other four cops, but a single man. Uniform of blue and red, a fricken sure.
"You heard the lady," he says. "Put the gun down," he commands him as well. The robber debated which one to shoot, the cop or the fricken sure. His eyes flicked left to right before taking a pure guest as decided to shoot the officer. Before you could get down, the bullet bashed into you're shoulder. Knocking the wind out of you, then heard a scream.
You're ears ringed as you forced yourself up and saw the robber in the hands of the super, his hand was burnt as well. The f just happened? You thought to yourself. Within seconds you untying the hostages and leaving the bank. Luckily, the bullet vest stopped it. But you could feel a bruise forming underneath it all.
You left the bank wincing at the pain beneath you're collarbone. Immediately you took off the vest by your car, to examine the damage of it. Pinkish red was around a small cut showing a small amount of blood. "Shit" you muttered under you're breath. Across you saw the robber being dragged to the back of a police car. Than dug through you're glove department for an alcohol wipe. You began to dab the damage left. You knew that was gonna bruise later. Then while leaning against it, you saw that fricken sure, with a smug smile. Despite the photographers around snapping photos of the scene, you marched over. "Hey! What the f, dude!?"
Shocked he turned to face you. Yet still, try to keep that smug face that the public loved too much. "Excuse me?" He says it as if no one ever talked to him like this, it has to be bull.
"You heard me." You growl at him, this caught the awareness of your chief. But it's not like you cared. "Listen, I don't remember you being part of this operation! Intruding on it wasn't smart! You could have got him to kill one of the hostages!"
"You're right," he simply says keeping that fake smile. "You're the true hero-"
"Cut the bs!" You remark angrily. Bolling inside of you as you're blood. You're head felt as if it wanted to explode like a volcano at this. "This operation was handled! You flying monkey."
A chuckle escaped from his mouth at this. As if he wasn't taking you seriously. "Yeah, I see that Officer-" he glances for your name tag. "-Officer (Y/L/N), and look where that got you," he gestured to the sight of bruising cut.
"Imagine if you didn't put on that vest. You could have been killed and got the hostages." And was about to walk away, "oh! Oh! How about what if your vest didn't stop the bullet! You could die within seconds if you didn't make it to the hospital. I will rather be thankful if someone such as me saved me from death. Because I'm doing my job just like you, so thank you would be nice," he says with that fake smile. What? Thank you? You didn't want to, you shouldn't have to say it. Being entitled after what could've happened shouldn't be.
He was expecting one while glaring down at you. Not backing down you glared back at him refusing to back down. "How about exactly when monkeys fly?" You say about walking away then stop in your tracks. "Oh, wait they already do! I mean exactly on the 8th of never!" You growled walking away. Marching back to you're car, and didn't notice the camera phone on you.
"Officer (Y/L/N)!" You paused before entering it with that dark look in your eyes. "Finish and file the paperwork, then go home!" That's bull, you thought to yourself at that moment.
Instead of wanting to yell about how much of bs it was, you swallowed it down. "Of course, chief." You sigh before slamming the door shut and begin to drive back to the station. You caught the eye of that super, who had the smuggest look on his face. It reminded you of how a sibling smiles when they got the other in trouble. The victory was glistening in those eyes, and you wanted to punch him in the face. Nothing really bothered you, before this crappy week started. Rain began to pour down as you pulled out of the parking lot and began to drive off.
___
The next day entering the station didn't feel the same as usual. You had your coffee in your hands as you walked through in your attire with all eyes on you. More than usual actually, you ignored all the stares and whispers. You sat at your desk and began to place your things while sipping some of you're coffee. "(Y/L/N)! My office now!" You heard a yell from you're chief. You groaned at this but decided to go while taking your coffee in you hand. Entering you saw a woman dressed professionally with blonde hair. Then there was the redhead aside like a servant. Then finally the supe, Homelander.
You didn't bother taking off you're shading. "What's this about?" You inquired to them. Your chief forced a smile upon his face at this while glaring at you.
"Officer (Y/L/N), my name is Madalyn Stillwell. I run the company Vought," she says putting her hand out towards you. You took it shaking it despite not wanting to, but you're mother nagging in you're head always said be polite. "Were here to disgust a new business proposition," she says. Beside her was Homelander with that same smug face as yesterday.
Oh great, you thought to yourself stopping yourself from scoffing at this.
"You're video of arguing with Homelander blew up! The fans adore you already with you're attitude! The comments love the dynamic between you two." The redhead with a big smile says while showing the screen. 1M likes could be seen, with a bunch of comments about both of you.
"You're chief said you're in need of a partner. We propose you and Homelander team up! You're dynamic is interesting between each with you're personalities. It'll be great publicity for the department and Vought!" She explains than pulls out a binder with a piece of paper on it with a black fancy pen beside it. "All I need is for you to say, yes! Then sign here." She says pointing with the pen at the bottom of the page.
With a sip of you're a coffee, you stand up. Then detach the badge and gun from you. "What is she doing?" Stillwell inquires confused at this action. "I'm confused, what is she doing?" You placed the badge and pistol on the desk.
"What are you doing Officer (Y/L/N)?" He hisses from in between his teeth trying to maintain a fake smile.
"Turning in my badge and gun, sir," you remark respectfully. "Because it's a big fat, no," you say directing the glare to Homelander. You catch his eye in the moment. He was about to stand a speak, but you held you're hand out as a stop motion. "Listen you Nazi dreamboat, it's a no. Convince me otherwise," you growled at this. Then turned to you're chief with a dead stare as well. "I'm turning in my badge because I didn't ask for fame! I want to save and help people. Not parade around as if it's all fun and games! Terminate me, go ahead. Because I quit," you say. Then begin to exit the office whole hearing the voice of a supe.
"She doesn't mean that!" He chuckles nervously as you exit the office without another word. You take your stuff and began to hurry back to you're truck throwing part of it in the passenger seat. It was old and painted a cool sky blue color that was calming. You get in the truck and shut it while that supe began to race out. "Hey!" You turned on the engine of the truck feeling pure. "Hey!" You heard him then saw the door be swung open.
"What" you growled at this.
"You know how many people would've signed that in a heartbeat! You walked out of there as if it was a dead-end job." He growled at you.
"Than why don't you go get one of them then?" She questions Part of you knew you couldn't even do it even if you wanted to. Too risky situations, especially for how they like things done.
"What will it take?" Suddenly confusion washed all over you like a wave.
"Excuse me?" You were surprised by this.
"What will it take for you to take the deal?" A laugh croaked from you at this. Was he serious? You could only wonder why this is so important to him.
"What will it take? Money? Promotion? What?" He growled at you.
"Why do you want this so badly?"
"Publicity is important for the company. The more promotion we get, the higher our marketing campaigns go. Now state what you want?" He commands from you. Maybe you should just do it? He seems like the type that won't stop until he gets what he wants.
You scoff at this and rubbed your eyes at this. "Fine. I'll take it, I want my private life to remain the way I want it. I'll take pictures and videos, but you're never allowed to film my home, ever. You're not allowed to release personal information unless I rule it good. My vote overrules all others. My life, my say." She commands him.
"Deal, let's go." You turn off the truck and stepped out still standing by it. Homelander picked up you weren't going, but then turned back. "What?"
"All of this better be mentioned to Stillwell and put on the contract immediately. Not in twenty years, immediately. With copies for me, anything edited out will he withhold in court." You say with your hands behind you're back. "I want my copy immediately after I sign it, tell your boss that." He reluctantly agrees to this. "Now ask me nicely" you command to him. "Come on, on your knee."
Obediently he stood in front of her glances around and then gets down on his knees. "Will please sign the papers?" You pause for a moment as if you're hesitantly about to say, no.
But then you glance down, with a sarcastic smile, and put your shades on you're head. "Yes, I will." Then walk away from as he tries to get back with that super-suit on. "See that wasn't so hard?" You jokingly say while waltzing back into the office.

Your prey truly was beautiful. She stood on lean, nimble legs, powerful and agile, as was the rest of her muscular form. Her fur looked soft as the blades of grass beneath her hooves and was just as green. The antlers atop her head were thin and twirling, much like the branches in the trees above. Her tail, long, skinny and hairless, aside from the bushel on the end, was nonchalantly swooshing back and forth, expressing her comfort. She stood tall and proud, her eyes never resting as she continuously scanned the area around her.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 2Â - Chapter 3.
come over?
Thatâs what lights up your phone screen at damn near three in the morning. You roll over, squinting at the bright screen as you grab it from your bedside table. Itâs one of the lamest texts youâve ever gotten. Itâs barely a step up from the even more basic âu up?â and youâre half tempted to leave him on read. Octavio can do better than that.
Yet, you scroll through your compilation of gifs and send him one of a woman rolling her eyes. Sure, itâs disdainful but he now knows that you are, in fact, awake.
About three months ago, you were offered a job by Apex, the corporation running the well renowned Apex Games. The offered pay was astronomical in comparison to what you made at your humble little gig as a thorn in a journalistâs side. Room and lodging would be included in the miniature city built just for Champions and the people who made the games happen.
All you had to do was do what you do best. Take pictures.
Every advertisement, webpage, and piece of merchandise is covered with your pictures of the Legends. Those that you take in the studio given to you and those that you take off the clock. Every picture on your camera belongs to Apex, even with your signature scratched at the bottom of all of them.
Because of this, it had taken a select few Legends time to warm up to you. Others, not so much.
Octavio, better known as Octane, might as well have sat in your lap when you walked in with a camera hanging around your neck.
Though youâre a lot quieter than âThe Adrenaline Junkieâ, you have about as much impulse control as he does. So one night when heâd visited you in your studio a little past business hours, brandishing a bottle of Hennessey Black the size of your head, one thing lead to another and, well.
The events of that night lead to you getting texts from Octavio at damn near three in the fucking morning asking you to come over.
i have a box of wings and a bottle of Smirnoff with ur name on it.
You bite the tip of your tongue. The offerâs tempting.
and other things, if you can keep up. ;)
That, even more so.
Against your better judgment, you text him back with words instead of a gif. Youâll be over in ten minutes. Â If he drinks all the liquor before you get there, youâre leaving. You imagine him cackling at his screen because if you know him at all, and you do, heâs probably polished off at least a quarter of the bottle on his own.
Octavioâs apartment is a five minute walk from yours but you gave yourself an extra five to brush your teeth and find your shoes. The penthouse suites offered to all the Legends is right across the street from your simple one bedroom.
When you first moved in, you thought maybe Apex Corp wanted you to take paparazzi sort of shots of their competitors. Theyâve never asked you to and you havenât bothered to try, so you guess they just gave you what was available.
Whatever. You donât mind living in earshot of some of the deadliest people in the Outlands. Especially now that youâre fucking one of them.
God, you never thought youâd be in this position. Sure, youâre not fucking blind, most of the Legends are attractive. Bangalore has a smirk that drops panties and a voice thatâs a little more gravelly than the average woman. Wraithâs got the prettiest eyes youâve ever seen, powers or otherwise, and her skin is flawless. Gibraltar could probably defeat half of his opponents by throwing them.
Even those that you canât see the faces of have appeal â Bloodhoundâs shroud of mystery has gained them quite the following online and what Octavio doesnât show of his face is made up for by his stupid little crop top.
You just⌠Didnât anticipate any of them finding you attractive too. Least of all the speedster with a penchant for picking up bad habits. Like fucking the photographer. You run your hand down your face as you exit your house, locking it behind you before jogging across the street to the penthouse suites.
Even if you had toyed with the possibility of warming one of their beds, you certainly didnât think youâd wind up in Octavioâs. Maybe Elliot, whoâs got a reputation for getting around, or Ajay, whoâs could crush you with her thighs. Octavio, whose accent and stupid selfies had caught the attention of many Apex fans, was the last legend you expected to end up making your heart do the jitterbug-
Itâs not, youâre not, you vehemently remind yourself as you enter the elevator of the Legendsâ suites. Absolutely not. No way. You walk down the hallway to Octavioâs door, reminding yourself over and over again youâre most certainly not catching feelings and whatever dance your heart is doing has something to do with the lack of sleep.
Even though that makes no sense, itâs what you tell yourself, because thereâs no fucking way youâre into Octavio like that. Not into someone youâre just hooking up with. Not into someone whoâs only interested in hooking up.
You knock once on his door and you barely have a chance to step back before Octavioâs tearing it open. His mask is gone and even though youâve seen his face a million times by now, you still take a moment to breathe him in. Heâs got the prettiest green eyes youâve ever seen, glassy with alcohol, and you notice that heâs in need of a shave, his cheeks tinted dark by pinpricks of facial hair.
âItâs three am,â you tell him.
âYet here you are, amiga,â he smirks.
âFor the booze,â you reply and he snickers, shoving out a plastic cup you hadnât noticed he was holding. The stench of Smirnoff envelops you and you sigh, snatching it away and shouldering your way into his apartment.
âWhat are you doing up, anyway?â You ask, flopping on the couch and taking a large enough gulp of your cup to make your nose burn. You squeeze your eyes briefly closed, letting out a little âahhâ as Octavioâs weight sinks the opposite side of the couch.
âCouldnât stop watching The Flash. But Barry got kinda boring, so I texted you,â he says and you snort, opening one eye to glance at him. You hadnât even noticed the title glaring at you from the flat screen only a few feet away, the only light in the apartment aside from the stove.
God, heâs so unfairly pretty. Heâs resting his tousled head of green hair, the same green as his eyes, in his hand, propped up on the back of the couch. His PLUS ULTRA tattoo peeks out from the three quarter sleeved shirt heâs wearing and you go for your drink, hoping you can excuse the warmth in your chest as Smirnoff.
âOf course you were. Youâre so fuckinâ basic.â
âIâm on brand.â
âYouâre at home. Alone.â
âNot anymore.â
You snort, finally beginning to feel that warmth in your chest drip down into your stomach. The easy, fuzziness that comes with being here, with drinking and banter and the promise of something so much sweeter.
âWell, thanks for inviting me,â you say, ânow where are those wings?â
As promised, Octavio brings you a takeout box with about thirty wings. With liquor brewing in your stomach, you probably could demolish them, but youâre barely buzzed and still willing to be polite.
Itâs the wee hours of the morning, so youâre grateful that each of the Legends have soundproof walls. You and Octavio put on old telenovelas, even though your Spanish is slim to none, and he makes you laugh by describing the scenes to you.
âOho man, sheâs such a bitch. The mother basically just told the sonâs lover acompĂĄĂąame a ver esta triste historia.â
âI donât speak Spanish, Oc,â you remind him around a mouthful of a wing coated in ranch.
âRemember how the girlâs parents died when she was six?â He asks and you nod your head, vaguely remembering the shitty graphics acting as flashbacks. âThe sonâs mother heard that and might as well have said âthatâs cuteâ.â
You were right to assume Octavio had already had a hefty serving of alcohol before heâd texted you, as he brings out the bottle when your glass gets low, a little less than half of it gone. Heâs got a higher alcohol tolerance than you and itâs obvious the more you two delve into the Smirnoff.
He smirks at you when you whine about the wings getting low, polishing off what must be your twelfth. Youâve officially had enough alcohol to stop being polite and Octavio loops an arm around your shoulder. When had he gotten so close to you on the couch?
âThere, there,â he murmurs into your hair, âthere will be wings tomorrow, mami.â
âBut I want them now,â you complain, only to completely forget your train of thought as you bury your nose in the collar of Octavioâs shirt. âFuck, you smell good. Do you always smell this good?â
âI smell like liquor,â he snickers, kissing the top of your head and you shudder as he slides his fingers through the small hairs at the base of your neck.
âAnd soap. What soap do you use? I bet you use Old Spice. Old Spice is so basic but it smells so fucking good,â you ramble, tilting your head just enough so that your lips brush against his collarbone.
âGracias,â he hums, tilting his head back a smidge. You take this as an invitation and begin placing careful, open mouthed kisses up the length of his neck.
Octavio sighs through his nose, arm around your shoulders sliding down your side to pull you half into his lap. Your teeth scrape his pulse and his grip on you tightens.
âYou didnât say yes or no,â you absently mumble as he grabs a handful of your ass. He squeezes before you pull back just enough to meet those pretty green eyes of his, dark with want.
âYeah, itâs Old Spice,â he says, then leans in to devour your mouth with his.
Octavio kisses like he moves. Quick, eager, his tongue pushes into your mouth and makes you groan. You haphazardly drape one leg over his, twisting so your chest is flush against his. He bites your lower lip and you whimper, half grinding against his prosthetic legs, cool against your heat.
His free hand sneaks down to grab your other ass cheek, pulling you up to straddle him. His lips leave yours with a pop and he bites his lower lip as you shudder against his dick jumping under your hips.
âWe havenât even started yet,â you say, allowing him to slip his hands beneath your shirt, gripping your breasts and rolling the peaks under his thumbs. You sigh, continuing, âhow are you so hard?â
âHow are you so sexy?â He snarks, releasing your tits in favor of grabbing the hem of your top. He pulls it off eagerly, eyes hot. Â
âYou too,â you half beg and he obliges, tugging that snug fitting shirt over his head. You hum, hot with liquor, and with lust, and with the look heâs burning into your chest. He leans back into the couch, drinking in your disheveled state before reaching up to cruelly pinch your nipples.
You gasp, trying to lean into the sensation and alleviate the pain. Octavio only pulls harder, biting his lower lip when youâre almost chest to chest.
âAsshole,â you hiss and he grins, giving you a flash of his tongue piercing.
âYou like it,â he says as you relent, going still in his lap. Octavio finally releases his almost too tight grip on one nipple in favor of looping an arm around your waist. Heâs torturous to the other, squeezing, rolling, tugging. As a reward for the way you buckled, he slurps the free one into his mouth. You moan, his mouth all wet warmth and cool metal. His thumb flickers teasingly across your other pebbled nipple and you arch your back.
âOc, please,â you pant and he pulls off of you with a pop, cupping the tit he still has a handle on to flick his tongue across it.
âPor favor? Por favor que?â He half laughs only to break off in a needy groan when you grind against him. âFuck fuck fuck, okay, stand up for a sec.â
You roll yourself along his dick for a moment longer, relishing in the way his hips instinctually jerk against yours. He squirms beneath you, opting to tightly grab your hips.
âShit, mami,â Octavio pants, sharply thrusting up before trying to push you off. âCâmon, câmon, youâre wearing too many clothes.â
You finally climb off him and he follows you forward, sharply pulling down your sweats. A long, sticky trail connects you briefly to them and he outright groans at how filthy that is.
âYouâre so wet,â he all but whines, fascinatedly rubbing a finger between your lips. Your breath hitches as he pointedly drags his knuckle across your clit, teasing you with the not quite enough touch.
âShorts off,â you growl, and he hurriedly obeys. His cock springs free as his shorts hit the carpet and your mouth waters. The tip is swollen and pink, leaking with excitement. Youâre half tempted to get on your knees, swipe the pre up with your tongue and put him at your mercy.
âOh, mami, yes, you can do that for me later,â he babbles, making you realize youâd said that aloud. You try to climb back into his lap, only to have him grab you by the shoulders. You yelp as he tosses you onto your back on the opposite side of the couch, maneuvering himself between your thighs.
You two have been doing this long enough to have done away with condoms and youâre so fucking grateful for that as he pushes himself between your lips. Your slick helps him along as he glides the tip against your aching, swollen clit.
âOc,â you impatiently murmur and he smirks. Octavio is a bastard at the worst times and not even the bedroom is exempt, because he grabs his shaft and taps the leaking tip of his cock against your clit.
âHow bad do you want it, hm?â He asks and if you werenât so overwhelmed, youâd roll your eyes. You settle for propping yourself up on your elbows and thrusting your hips up. His cock catches on your hole and his breath hitches in his throat.
âThat bad, huh?â Octavio breathlessly whispers and you glare at him through the fog of your lust.
âArenât you supposed to be quick?â
âYou want it to be over? Aw, okay, guess Iâll-â
Before he can pull away, you wrap your legs around his waist and yank him against you. Octavio slips, caught off guard, and he catches himself on the arm of the couch, letting out a strangled groan as the tip of his dick breeches your swollen cunt.
âFuck,â he grits out, suddenly unconcerned with teasing. He drives himself the rest of the way inside and you sigh, relieved to be so wonderfully full.
âIâm trying,â you gleefully counter and he sharply thrusts into you with a laugh thatâs half moan.
You reach around, clawing at his lower back as he fucks into you. His elbow lands on the space next to your neck and you find his hand cupping the crown of your head, simply resting there as he fucks you like heâs trying to win a race.
Octavio moans and curses and whines just as much as you do, his green eyes squeezed shut. You rake your nails up the length of his spine and he groans, giving you an especially brutal thrust. Your mouth falls open and he takes the opportunity to sloppily kiss you, tongue pushing past your lips to twist with yours and he doesnât taste so much like liquor anymore.
You sob into the kiss as he angles his hips down a little, hitting right there. He gets the picture quickly and he aims just so, abusing that place that makes you see stars. His hips snap into yours and you grab his shoulders for purchase. Itâs too much. Itâs not enough.
Itâs him, pulling away from your kiss to watch you with amazed green eyes. Itâs him, grabbing your hips and yanking you onto his dick. Itâs him, passing a thumb over your clit, making your eyes roll back. Itâs him, hissing your name as his hips begin to stutter and shake. Itâs him.
âCâmon, mami, câmon, I wonât last,â he gasps, fondling your clit desperately and your jaw drops at the sensation. âCâmon, baby, need it, need to feel that tight pussy squeeze my dick, you can do it, do it for me, please, baby, please-â
You say his name as your orgasm hits you, shaking legs tightening so harshly around his waist you can feel every tremor of his hips. He fucks you through it, relentlessly rubbing your clit and you whimper, reaching down to try and shove his hand away. It doesnât seem to stop him and finally with two, three more thrusts, heâs coming.
Octavio buries his face in your neck, saying something so low and garbled that you barely pick up that it was in Spanish. You donât care to ask what he said just yet, too busy catching your breath as you clutch his back.
âShitâŚâ He breathes, turning his head to rest his nose against your still racing pulse. Now, though, itâs not just with need, but you donât tell him that.
âHowâs that for keeping up?â You ask and he snickers, slowly pulling out of you. Octavio reaches down, grabbing his shorts and tucking them beneath your hips to catch the spunk dripping out of you.
âIâll go get a wash cloth,â he says as you paw at the coffee table for the TV remote. You groan at the time it shows you.
âItâs almost seven, you ass! I have to be to work in two hours!â
âGuess I kept you up all night. At least you werenât bored.â
âI hate you,â you groan, scrubbing your hands over your eyes. Octavio snickers, making his way towards the bathroom.
âOh, hey, wait,â you say, propping your head up. He stops short, meeting your gaze. âWhat did you say? I was kinda preoccupied and didnât hear.â
âKinda? You wound me,â Octavio says, placing a hand over his heart. You unceremoniously flip him off. âYou think I remember what I said while I was nutting, chica?!â
Octavio grins roguishly. You roll your eyes, throwing one of the couch cushions at him. It doesnât get anywhere close to hitting him and Octavio snickers, bending down to toss it back onto the couch. âWho knows?â
Octavio turns back to the bathroom and his playful expression slackens. His brow scrunches up as he flicks the light on, closing the restroom door behind him and staring disbelievingly into the mirror.
Te amo, heâd gasped into your neck when he was overwhelmed with the smell of you, the feeling of you, the taste of you.
Summary: People can only bend their morales so far before they break. Homelander is the worldâs greatest superhero, and you, a tech analyst, somehow become entangled in his world when he learns that you provide intel to The Boys. He makes it his personal mission to find out exactly what you know, but he never expected such resistance from someone as damaged as you. But broken things can be mended, sometimes in the most unexpected ways possible.
Authorâs Note: As a bit of a disclaimer, I have only seen snippets of The Boys. I havenât actually watched all of it, so forgive me if there are some details that are wrong, as well as the many spelling errors that will undoubtedly be in this series. There is a tag list open for those who wish to be added. Gif by @streamâ
You had no idea how you ended up providing intel for The Boys. You didnât even know how they managed to find you.
You were a nobody, a nobody who so happened to be very knowledgeable around technology. You hacked into secure companies that were affiliated with The Seven, media outlets, private companies and the like, and gained whatever information you could before passing it on to the leader of The Boys himself, Billy Butcher. He stopped by your apartment at random hours during the day and night, giving you set deadlines to complete certain assignments before he came to retrieve the intel. No one knew who you were. You were so mysterious in fact, that the general public had even given you a name. The Watcher.
Summary:Â "Donât go getting any funny ideas,â You said quietly as you adjusted, tossing a leg over his hips and nuzzling your nose into his neck. "just âcause youâre in my bed doesnât mean youâre gonna get into my pants.â
âY/N youâre not wearing any pants.â

Youâd think Connor wouldâve gotten used to working with difficult people, what with Gavin being an asshole and Hank completely closed off to him in the beginning. His difficulty wasnât limited to just those two either, being an android in post-revolution Detroit made plenty of humans wary of his character.
But heâd never had to work with someone so flirty.
And frankly, he didnât know how to react. Regardless of his endless supply of information, every wise-crack and flirty response and cold rejection refused to process when you glanced up at him with that mischievously proud smirk you got before you opened your mouth for another comment.
In your defense, he made it incredibly easy, what with his cute face and all the little things he did that honestly begged for you to comment on. Besides, the way he looked like he was gonna short-circuit after a particularly lewd comment was worth the strained side-eye youâd get from Hank if he overheard you.
Connor believed that the real problem wasnât that you were flirting with him, probably solely for the fun of it (which heâd admit was a disappointing thought now that he understood what disappointment felt like), but that he wanted to flirt back. And even worse, he couldnât. It was an emotion he hadnât quite figured out yet, somewhere between anxiety, nervousness and embarrassment that made his throat feel closed off (it was, technically, because he didnât have a trachea, but that was besides the point). He was desperate to change that though, and thankfully you gave him lots of opportunities.
âHey hot stuff, whatâs new?â You hopped up on his desk, sitting right in front of him with a shit-eating grin on your lips. He wasnât sure if he hated or loved the way his processors whirred whenever he saw that smirk, the closest his synthetic body would get to a rush of adrenaline.
âHello Y/N, you must be tired this morning.â You raised an eyebrow in his direction, waiting for him to explain himself.
âSeeing as how you were running through my thoughts all night.â Is what he was supposed to say, before he got too distracted by the way you tucked a strand of hair behind your ear. He was aware that this was a dumb thing to get distracted by, even flustered over, but he had suddenly imagined how soft your touch would be. How completely welcoming and sweet your fingers would feel running through his hair or over his jaw, crawling over his collarbones. He felt like the wires connecting his audio box and his processor had disconnected, and he closed his mouth to stop himself from muttering something entirely stupid.
âI noticed that you were here late, the timestamp on your last report was well past 2 am.â
âAh, yeah I could use another cup of coffee.â You leaned back on your palms a bit, probably mentally preparing yourself to get up and make one. Connor often had to do the same thing, since Gavinâs desk was right by the coffee machine.
âWould you like me to get one for you?â He would, however, brave the walk for you. And the small look of surprise on your face when he offered was worth any insult Reed could throw at him.
âIf you did Iâd only be able to repay you with a kiss.â He could only hope you would.
âIâm sorry, thatâs not a currency Iâm experienced with.â He meant it half as a joke, but he was still getting used to making those. You smirked again and Connor swore he would be breathless if his functions permitted it.
âAnytime you want some practice, sweetheart, Iâm all yours.â He attempted to hide his flashing red LED by stepping out of his chair and heading towards the lounge, fighting back images and the simulated feeling of your lips clashing with his.
â
âHey Connor do you have a map?â You walked up from behind him, doing a quick turn and stopping in front of him, same glint in your eye.
âI have every map downloaded on the internet, whereâs it for?â He asked almost suspiciously, wondering if you were about to flirt with him or if that look extended to more than that.
âFor here, I just got so lost in your eyes I canât find my way around anymore. Then again,â You ran your finger under his chin, savouring the flicker in his LED as you did so. ânow that Iâve found you I donât think I want anything else.â
Connor almost felt light headed, how that was possible he had no answer, but it mustâve been because thatâs what was happening.
âI- oh.â Was all he managed to get out, knowing if he could blush he would be. You just sounded so⌠Genuine, it threw him off. Your little giggle didnât help either.
âI actually am late for a debriefing though, so Iâll catch you later sweetcheeks.â You shined an earth-shattering smile, bounced up on your tiptoes to plant a kiss painfully close to his lips, then sped off to Fowlerâs office.
â
âJesus Connor, itâs like 6 in the morning what the hell are you doing here?â You groan tiredly, holding yourself up with your front door as you open it to the android.
âI was sent a report and Hank refused to come with me to investigate, telling me to come recruit you instead.â He folded his hands behind his back and tried to ignore the fact that you were only wearing a t-shirt and underwear, and how adorably messy your hair was.
And how cute you looked trying to rub the sleep from your eyes.
And how his thirium pump seemed to kick into overdrive, and his usual objective (previously 'Convince Y/N to investigate the sceneâ) jumped between 'Flirtâ, 'Kissâ, and 'Look awayâ. He had noticed since becoming deviant that giving yourself orders was much more confusing than when he accepted the ones Cyberlife gave him. Sometimes he missed it, the easy answers, the doubtless actions.
âWell come in I guess,â You offered, padding away from him and the open door and walking back into your room. âYou know, I imagined the first time I had you in my bedroom would be under very different circumstances.â
He was, in fact, trying to avoid those exact thoughts.
âWell, maybe next time.â You joked to yourself, without the usual conviction because you were still more than half asleep. Connor watched you look over to your closet, like you were considering grabbing a change of clothes and getting ready for the day.
And then he watched you take a step towards your bed and crawl back in it, like he wasnât even there. Like you hadnât heard him talk about a new case, like you hadnât literally just said you wanted to sleep with him. How could you say something that worked him up so much without even being awake yet? How was it so effortless, so natural for you?
âY/N?â He stepped slowly over to the bed and heard you make a small hum in response. You had curled up to a pillow and Connor was fighting a sense of envy over it.
âDo you not want to go to the crime scene?â Itâs not what he really wanted to ask but he supposed it was a better idea to ask this instead of questioning your feelings toward him.
âI just need a little nap, youâre free to join me.â Your arm felt heavy but you lifted it anyways, welcoming him into your bed like you would invite someone in for a hug, but he continued to stand and watch you curiously, cautiously.
âAs an android I donât need sleep.â He noticed the little frown on your lips and felt something inside him collapse.
âThen come cuddle, you can wake me up in 5.â He let you wrap your fingers around his wrist and tug lightly until he lay down beside you. He wasnât sure how good of an idea this was, but god he wanted it so bad, how could he say no to you?
âDonât go getting any funny ideas,â You said quietly as you adjusted, tossing a leg over his hips and nuzzling your nose into his neck. âjust 'cause youâre in my bed doesnât mean youâre gonna get into my pants.â
âY/N youâre not wearing any pants.â He couldnât help himself from teasing you a little, even if you were too tired to appreciate it.
âExactly.â Connor wished there was a way he could say â?????â but it didnât translate well into audio, so he stayed silent. It didnât take very long for him to register your soft breaths against his collarbone and confirm you were asleep, but he was faced with the problem of finding a less awkward position for himself, pinned to the bed by your limbs.
And since you were asleep, he let his guard down a little and did something he wouldnât dream of doing with you conscious; he placed a light kiss on the top of your head and wrapped his arms around you, tracing little patterns into your back to entertain himself.
âHey Y/N?â He said softly, more tenderly than youâd ever heard him before. If you were even slightly awake it mightâve even made you swoon.
âYeah?â You whispered into him and he swore he felt the words crawl up his synthetic skin with a shiver.
âI hope you like the feel of my jacket, itâs made of boyfriend material.â
