a veces sólo hay q decir mmmm raaaaro y seguir
May you never again get attached to anyone who isn’t for you. May you find a love that makes you laugh, never lets the honeymoon phase end, and gives you unquestionable loyalty. Someone who cherishes your childlike playfulness AND your old soul—a love you never have to heal from.

1997: The Year of Star-Crossed Lovers
Two of the most famous, modern-day examples of star-crossed lovers came to us in the year 1997: Jack and Rose from the 1997 mega-hit Titanic & Cloud and Aerith from the 1997 mega-hit Final Fantasy VII. And yes, I’m citing Wikipedia. However, I actually got to thinking. These star-crossed lovers had more than the year 1997 in common – many of the scenes were similar, too:
LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT:
テトラ
Rose catches Jack’s eye, and his buddies mock him for thinking he has a chance with her. Cloud buys a flower from a mysterious Flower Girl in the slums, and recalls later in Final Fantasy VII Dismantled that her eyes were “impressive” and that her smile was a “good purchase.”
DESTINY:
教会に咲く花
Destiny brings these star-crossed lovers together again. Cloud falls to Aerith’s Church, while Jack finds Rose at the stern of the Titanic.
DEVELOPING TRUST:
Jack convinces Rose to trust him and she agrees to go back aboard the ship, while Aerith trusts Cloud to protect her from The Turks. Cloud becomes Aerith’s bodyguard, much as Jack is to Rose throughout Titanic.
This is the typical beginning of a love story: love at first sight, and the hero protecting his heroine through a series of miraculous events only explained by fate.
DEVELOPING WORLDS:
Jack and Rose start developing a world together, much as Cloud and Aerith do in Final Fantasy VII.
A KISS:
魔手璃亜
Jack kisses Rose’s hand before first-class dinner, while Cloud kisses Aerith’s hand during a play while on their canon date at Gold Saucer.
HOLDING HANDS:
The act of holding hands between love interests is intrinsically romantic.
STAR-CROSSED:
Both Jack and Aerith were taken from us too soon, which is the curse of star-crossed lovers.
REUNITING:
Both couples reunite in life after death. Rose returns to Titanic to meet Jack, while Cloud will one-day return to Aerith in the lifestream – his Promised Land.
“Love can touch us one time and last for a lifetime.”
A clerith lover tries to see both sides but can't
I really don’t know how much clearer square can be to prove cloud and aerith will always be together and canon. most cloti people grab and pick at facts when nomura has not only stated he put aerith in kingdom hearts for the two to be together. but also the fact she has been the only one to make him smile in 7, and mentioned as a lover in various books. not only that but amano has drawn the two together countless times as cloti remains un touched. their love story is a tragedy. everyone could point and claim at the highwind scene (but remember tifa’s words are based on her AFFECTION levels, if it were one solid feeling their wouldn’t be multiple variations. Much as Aerith gets over Zack, Cloud gets over Tifa (as tifa was a childhood crush) i have no idea how else to describe or preach it. clerith has a BOOK of evidence as to cloti only having a few possible paragraphs?
A Love that is Eternal
“It was the sound of Cloud’s heart cracking. It was the cry of his heart that could never be healed of the grief he had towards Aerith’s death, the blame towards himself and the hatred he had for Sephiroth…There was nothing she could do about Cloud’s suffering and the pain ached in her heart.” –Maiden of the Planet, Square Enix
Cloud and Aerith’s canon Gold Saucer date is pictured on Square Enix’s For the One I Love page:
“Through the long journeys, the love of the protagonists develop. Occasionally they become separated, but the two’s value to one another gives them the great strength to overcome whatever crisis may come.” –Final Fantasy 20th Anniversary Ultimania; For the One I Love page; Square Enix
Lines to remember: “…the love of the protagonists develop.” “…the two’s value to one another…”
“In Aerith’s case, if you play the game normally, the partner that generally comes will be Aerith.” –Final Fantasy VII Dismantled; Square Enix
“Oh, Cloud…I enjoyed our date at the Gold Saucer. The view from the gondola that night was really beautiful. I’ll never forget it. I’ll never forget you, Cloud…” –Aerith; Final Fantasy VII Dismantled; Square Enix
“#111: The Planet’s largest amusement park is run by Dio. Cloud and company visit this place many times in their battle. They meet Cait Sith here. A PROMISED date [there is only one promised date in the game] that ends in a magical night. In the city of desire that floats above the sands, the light memory of the two people is asleep even now…Aerith: “I think I must have seen him again, in you… But you’re different. Things are different… No, Cloud… I’m searching for you…” –Final Fantasy Art Collection; Square Enix
“A very personal memory that I have.”
OMG!!! I NEVER NOTICED THIS
Aerith & the Airship: The Significance of an Overlooked Gem
While Cloud and the gang sneak aboard the Cargo Ship, an optional scene can take place. We discover Aerith Gainsborough is blown away and in awe of an unknown airship. Though we later discover the airship is Cid Highwind’s, and is appropriately named after its pilot, circumstances prevent Aerith from ever fulfilling her dreams of riding such a breathtaking airship with Cloud Strife.
Squaresoft’s true genius was exemplified in this moment.
Not only does this moment perfectly match Aerith’s official wallpaper [the same wallpaper used in the Final Fantasy VII gaming manual pictured at the top of the post], it also provided us with heartbreaking foreshadowing.
Aerith, the fun-loving Flower Girl, is an adventurous free spirit ready to climb aboard the airship and fly – wanting to live life to the fullest with Cloud by her side. Yet… Aerith is ultimately the only party member unable to ride the airship.
Thanks, Squaresoft, you literally just broke my heart into a million pieces just as you did Cloud’s.
“It was the sound of Cloud’s heart cracking. It was the cry of his heart that could never be healed of the grief he had towards Aerith’s death, the blame towards himself, and the hatred he had for Sephiroth…” ~Maiden of the Planet, Square Enix
