My Accutane Story

Hi I'm Lauren :) This blog will document my Accutane story. I'll try to post often! I started Accutane on April 25, 2013 and have been on 80mg. If there is anyone who started around the time I did, let me know! Feel free to ask questions, but please no negativity.

did you experience any changes in your periods while you were on accutane? I noticed mine barely came at all, if ever 4 months at a time, and then I'd get quite a heavy one when I did get it.. if you get me haha. I just stopped my course and still get breakouts, and my skin is not perfect and it did work better for my sister than I but i guess everyones different! Sorry bout the period question, it just scares me that I don't get it (& I know I cannot be pregnant lol) xx

I really didn't notice any changes, but I'm also on bc so idk if that's what kept it normal.

When did your hair stop falling out as much?

Um maybe like a month after I finished? It's all growing back now.

WHICH MEANS IT’S BEEN 6 MONTHS SINCE I’VE BEEN OFF.

These are some pics from the past few months. My skin has been great! I haven’t had any big ones or any at all really since the last pics i posted. Just a couple on my chest, but that’s fine. I’m so happy with how my skin is. When I think back on how my skin was a year ago, it’s crazy to think how great it is now. My friends even tell me that. YAYYYY

Still waiting for my hair to grow back though…

I'm on like month 7 of accutane and my face still isnt clear :( i have the occasional spot but it normally goes over night, i still have blemishes and what i think to be scars as they are purpleish, i feel like giving up

Don’t give up! It really does take time! I found that once I was off Accutane is when I finally was 100% clear. I had spots all the way to the end. And having spots that go away over night is really good! Also my scars didn’t start to fade until I was off the medicine. Since you’ve been on it for 7 months, I’m guessing you might be on a lower dose as well. So what you’re experiencing sounds really normal. Don’t lose hope, it really does work. :)

4 Months off Accutane

My fist spot since Christmas and it's a doozy...

I just woke up and put a vitamin E mask on the spot because i want it to heal asap. 

I got my eyebrows waxed for the first time yesterday lol

Did you drink while on accutane and how much did you drink?

I did. There were a couple times I would drink two days in a row. It was fine you just get a worse hangover and get drunk A LOT faster.

I started acctuane a month ago my face is so itching my lips are so dry and my acne is showing a lot more then before how how long will it take to stop coming out :3

It takes a few months. It’s different for everyone, but for me things didn’t get better until after the 3rd of 4th month. You will be dry the whole time you’re on it though. Your skin shouldn’t be so itchy the whole time though.

Hello! Just found your blog and I love it! I've been on accutane for 3 months, first month on 20mg, 2nd on 40mg and third on 20mg. This may be my last month but I'm not sure yet. Never had tooo bad of acne to begin with (to other people's standards) obviously to me, it was very bothersome and embarrassing. My skin is very clear now but I still have black heads on my nose and a little on my chin, how long did it take for your blackheads to go away? I've always had a lot on my nose

I don’t really know when my blackheads went away. One day I just noticed that they were gone ad it was amazing. I think it just happened over time. Good luck, remember that it takes patience!

Hi! I just came across your blog and I think your amazing the way that you comfort people over one of the worse insecurities, acne. I myself have had it for about 5 years and I hate looking in the mirror because of the mess that is my face. I really want to go on accutane but I'm scared of all the constant bloodwork (terrified of needles) and of the side effects. But I am willing to do anything to be able to wear the clothes I want and not hide my chest/back as well as face. Should I take it?

Well thanks! I myself am terrified of needles and I actually pass out almost every time I take a blood test. That being said, I would still totally recommend taking it. Through all those blood tests, it was still so worth it. The blood tests were the reason I didn’t take it for so long and I wish I had taken it sooner. It’s really not that bad and I got everything that I wanted out of Accutane.

Did you experience any serious side effects? Like were you more emotional while on the medicine? I'm finding that I'm crying a lot. Also, did you have any scarring? I'm really pissed bc I guess I have some scarring and the medicine isn't going to make my cheeks (where I had a lot of acne) look less red and yucky. You are so lucky it seems you had such a smooth experience with this.

I might have been more emotional on it, but I was definitely sad most of the time from breaking out so much. I was upset because of how terrible my skin looked, but I don’t think I was more emotional on it. However, it is common for that to happen. If you feel that you are depressed then you should talk to your doctor about it for sure. I did have scarring on my checks, but they faded about a month after I got off the medication. I have a lot of permanent scarring on my chest though. Once you get off the medication, your skin should calm down a lot and you shouldn’t be breaking out which can cause the redness and scarring. My face was very red when I was on it and it isn’t anymore. It was not a smooth experience at all. It might have been easier for me than some people, but for example I am still trying to grow my hair back because I already had super thin hair and I lost over half of it. So no, this experience has not been easy for me either.

Hi! I just started absorica a week ago and I can already tell I'm hitting the dry season hardcore haha is that normal? Also, do you have any advice for specific face wash and lotion I should be using? By the way your skin looks amazing and I can't wait until I have that too! Thanks! ❤️

Thank you! And yes dry skin will become very normal while on the medicine. What I used is CeraVe cleanser and moisturizer. It worked amazingly. Good luck!!!
