literally at someone’s 23rd bday party. medieval themed. i go as a castle. obviously. i meet a jester who makes me a beret with a little green leaf stapled to it. they tell me they write on ao3. i mention i write and that when i was at uni i was busy writing 100k dsmp/hg crossovers on ao3. they immediately go, oh, i think i’ve read that. fear like a small prey animal enters my eyes. yes, it turns out they HAVE read it. genuinely what are even the chances of this.

something I really love is how the revivebook was created because cc!dream needed a reason for why his character would switch sides during the pogtopia war, and it ended up being just such a classic literalization for the way that his character is just unable to let go of the past. because there is really no stronger metaphor/allegory for an inability to let go than necromancy.

whats the play about……….

I AM SO GLAD YOU ASKED SALT SALTWATERSWEETS!! it’s a dark comedy / horror about six characters who work in an office, but there’s a twist (there’s actually a lot of twists but. All related to the same twist. one BIG twist). it’s set in a futuristic dystopian world where nukes have gone off & the Company that the characters work for actually kills them after they reach 100% on a meter that tracks how much energy they’ve devoted to the Company TM. killing employees who have reached 100% is just called “retirement” and yeah this is just my angry anti-capitalist play about how much I HATE jobs.

there’s also toxic yuri (needed) and a horrible pseudo father-son dynamic (even more needed) and six baby leeches in a jar (the most needed. for comedy reasons).

anyway I think that c!dream should feel a sort of connection to some nether cultures, especially blazeborn culture and demon(?) culture because of c!sapnap and c!bad and growing up with them. It's all fine and dandy early on, but once he grows apart from them, he really starts to question his right to the culture. he's not from the nether. the parts of the culture that are dear to him have only ever been shared with him. does he really have any claim to it? it doesn't matter that a part of it feels like home. it doesn't matter that his earliest memory is in the nether. it's basically cultural appropriation if he indulges in old habits that happen to be connected to those cultures, right? so like many things, he keeps it under lock and key, and he pretends that he doesn't ache with the force of missing it.

this may sound like a mean and terrible post but. imagine cdream never healing. he never learns to not twitch at the sound of shears. he never outgrows his instinct to hide things and keep secrets. it doesn’t matter that he’s loved or accepted by whoever he ends up allies or friends with. he just can’t get over what’s happened to him: it changed him in a way he can’t ever go back from.
