Happy internation mental health day :)
So far today my mental health has been awful but I wanted to say something, even if it was only a few words. #WorldMentalHealthDay

People trying to build better confidence are often told to use "positive self talk" but it often feels fake to people with really low self-esteem. I came across this tip for people trying to figure out self-love: if loving yourself feels like too much of a leap, try starting with being okay with yourself. Just neutral.
For peolple with really low self-esteem, saying things like "I'm a great person" or other super positive self talk can feel like lying or just blatantly false. And then it only makes them feel worse.
So, starting with "I'm an okay person" or "I'm generally pretty average" can feel a lot more true. You can go up from there, once your brain accepts it, but it's easier to replace negative thoughts with neutral thoughts than outright positive ones. (If even that feels like too much of a stretch, you can start with something acknowledging the possibility that you are maybe okay.)
Just maybe this will help some of y'all! Not that I am remotely close to figuring life out, but I found this to be an improvement. If anyone else has some tips for mental health and low self-esteem, feel free to share.
