           She is SULLEN ------ not oft anything the young woman will allow herself to indulge in, no, but even one so unceasingly positive cannot ALWAYS remain as such, least of all in the face of such cruelty.  Both mother and sisters seem in a ROTTENER MOOD than usual today, and if the blooming lilac and yellow spots along her wrists are to be believed, such is reflecting in unearned abuse.  

                     If Ella notes her brother’s presence, she does not speak of it; and if she had, she’d likely attempt to hide her downturned eyes and lips.  Pretend at pleasantness.  She does not wish to make any sad over her, after all.
