Hi! Not sure if this is still active, but it's the only sort of "hub" blog I could find, so figured I'd ask here. I've been RPing for a long time, but never on Tumblr, and while I have what I think is a pretty good character idea, I'm concerned about navigating the etiquette and the community here. Any advice - or who should I talk to?

The best advice I can give is to make a placeholder account, follow some of the existing RP accounts, and learn through watching. Then, when you’re comfortable, make the account into an RP account. Also, read the rules page on individual RP accounts; everyone has different rules they want people playing with them to abide by. Just generally don’t be a jerk and people will forgive the occasional mistake though. :)

Your password field will be blank but the top 3 boxes should look like this.

Where mine says “DJ_Molly_C” you’ll put your screenname of choice. Leave everything else blank. Click Connect.

Once it connects, a box will pop up.

Type #DresdenRP in the box and click Join. Presto!

omfg, no way, a Dresden Files RP?!?!??! That's so cool o.O!! I've loved The Dresden Files for freaking ages and I've never actually role-played anything/one before... Would I be able to get in on the action at all? Like, I don't know XD Are there any characters available orrrr?

Hi there, darkness-chaos-and-discord! We’d love you to join us… the more, the merrier! 

While we do have a list of characters without blogs, please don’t feel limited by it. If there’s a certain character you’re drawn to or think you’d have fun playing and there’s already one (or more) listed, go ahead and make a blog for that character anyway. And if you don’t want to do any of that, there’s always the option to make up an original character. 

Also, if you’re new to RP on tumblr or in general, we’ve got a page and a tag full of tutorials and tips.

just a few things to remember about roleplay ;

follower counts do not equate to ‘popularity’

follower counts do not equate to ‘quality’

it is not a popularity contest

a writer is not their character; their character may be an asshole, but the writer may not be

someone else roleplaying the same canon character as you should never be compared to you or another because you are each your own portrayal — thus you are each unique and have your own merits as the character in question

someone using an ‘overused’ face claim does not make them any less of a roleplayer or writer nor does it negate degrees of ‘quality’

some writers may be slow because they have real life issues or maybe their muse for their character comes and goes, or perhaps their internet connection is faulty

as a writer you can pick and choose whichever threads you have the muse for whenever you’d like — it is your blog and your character, only you dictate as much, never let a person make you feel bad for that

do not enforce a ship or push for smut, let things flow and they will be magical

if you worry you are being ignored? you probably aren’t, the other writer just may not have the muse for your thread or maybe they are simply too busy

Calling all Dresden Files OCs!

At the suggestion of sorceresswithoutborders, we’re putting together a page of OC bios so potential followers can get an idea of what your characters are like!

If you’d be so kind as to take a minute and submit your character’s name*, age, and a brief description of who they are, where they’re from, what they can do, and anything else you feel is important (a few sentences would be preferable), we’d really appreciate it! If you’re not sure what to write, take a look at the entries on the page so far!
