...but why am I here?
Purpose is a really tough question - we're all on this large, mostly troubled planet living our mostly lonely lives in a day and age when things like morals and values are weird (to put it kindly). Social interaction has evolved to mean something very different from what it was even 5-10 years ago (not even mentioning this particular year's remote nonsense), bringing with it all sorts of not-so-fun social anxieties and mental health troubles that maybe weren't so much an issue in simpler days. To say the least, the times are strange and troubled.
Finding purpose in all of that mess is a very personal question/decision - for some of us it's love for our friends and family, for others their jobs, for some the crazy and wild experiences of life, and some of us just like to sit and stare at the scenery. No one of us have an answer that suits others, and it can admittedly be tough to discover or choose one of our own.
For me, it's a lot of different things, but it boils down to something as simple as having a (hopefully positive) influence on even a small piece of the world. Today, I went to work and I answered some questions. I opened a door for someone when I was getting lunch. I spoke with my friends about their work troubles. I called my mother and we chatted and I told her I loved her. I helped a UPS delivery person at my apartment by simply opening the door for them when they were about to give up and go on, and they were super grateful.
If I hadn't been here today, none of that could have happened, and that thought to me is worse than those moments of sadness and worthlessness I sometimes feel.
Of course, those are just my personal items and my take on the matter. It may not be the answer for anybody else, but finding an answer that belongs to each of us is important, albeit difficult.
A little update <3
I still read all of your lovely replies! I have not given up on art my friends! I have even started my own webcomic on webtoon! It’s called Seth In Space and it would mean a lot to me if you would support me there! Love you all and happy halloween!!
I’m so happy to tell you all that I’ve made great progress with my mental health!! To genuinely be able to say that I feel happy is so liberating and free! I know a lot of you are still in that dark place. I’m here to say that it does get better. Much better! I still have some tough days but progress is progress! Be kind and gentle to yourselves. I love you all and thank you to everyone who’s supported me over the years!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
What’s the worst thing I’ve stolen? Probably little pieces of other people’s lives. Where I’ve either wasted their time or hurt them in some way. That’s the worst thing you can steal, the time of other people. You just can’t get that back.

New paint colors invented by neural network
So if you’ve ever picked out paint, you know that every infinitesimally different shade of blue, beige, and gray has its own descriptive, attractive name. Tuscan sunrise, blushing pear, Tradewind, etc… There are in fact people who invent these names for a living. But given that the human eye can see millions of distinct colors, sooner or later we’re going to run out of good names. Can AI help?
For this experiment, I gave the neural network a list of about 7,700 Sherwin-Williams paint colors along with their RGB values. (RGB = red, green, and blue color values) Could the neural network learn to invent new paint colors and give them attractive names?
One way I have of checking on the neural network’s progress during training is to ask it to produce some output using the lowest-creativity setting. Then the neural network plays it safe, and we can get an idea of what it has learned for sure.
By the first checkpoint, the neural network has learned to produce valid RGB values - these are colors, all right, and you could technically paint your walls with them. It’s a little farther behind the curve on the names, although it does seem to be attempting a combination of the colors brown, blue, and gray.
By the second checkpoint, the neural network can properly spell green and gray. It doesn’t seem to actually know what color they are, however.
Let’s check in with what the more-creative setting is producing.
…oh, okay.
Later in the training process, the neural network is about as well-trained as it’s going to be (perhaps with different parameters, it could have done a bit better - a lot of neural network training involves choosing the right training parameters). By this point, it’s able to figure out some of the basic colors, like white, red, and grey:
Although not reliably.
In fact, looking at the neural network’s output as a whole, it is evident that:
The neural network really likes brown, beige, and grey.
The neural network has really really bad ideas for paint names.
1. @lewisandquark is doing brilliant things with neural networks. 2. You should probably take this opportunity to tag yourself.

Trump Presidency, Day 3: Openly declaring objective truths that we can see with our own eyes to be invalid and 'dishonest', 'alternative facts', already went after a twitter account for sharing pictures of the inauguration that did not comply with the bullshit they made up.
