Pals n Pups
Considering my dog Leo’s prominent presence on my Instagram and Snapchat as well as my frequent references to that silly pup, essentially most people that know me are well aware that I absolutely adore dogs. As my roommate Sarah can attest to, I have teared up simply looking at photos of precious pups countless times. Seeing and interacting with dogs brings me so much joy, a joy that I truly cannot get enough of. Since I am lucky enough to have amazing friends who own amazing dogs, I decided to take photos of my pals and their pups this past summer.
Unfortunately, this summer was a bit bittersweet. Although I was reunited with my two crazy Labradors Leo (2 going on 2 months) and Misty (13 going on 5), my family and I had to say goodbye to our spunky little Misty at the end of August. So this series is dedicated to Misty who I am sure is frolicking around and causing mischief up in doggie heaven.

Kaley with her precious pup Roo : )
Roo needed to be motivated by a few treats along the way, but hey don’t we all need a bit of a push to capture the spotlight nowadays?
Why do you think people seek companionship through dogs?
Kaley: I think people seek companionship through animals, dogs specifically, because they are very sensitive creatures. Dogs pick up on emotions and are very in tune with the environment around them. Therefore, it is easy for people to connect with dogs because they feel a sense of comfort because our dogs understand emotions.
K: When I first got Roo, he was very sweet but shy. It took him some time to warm up to being in a new home and getting used to our golden retriever. However, Roo soon came to be very much the center of our home. We lovingly call him "the mayor" because he sits and waits on his perch in our living room until the whole family is home.
Any funny stories about your dog?
K: A funny story about Roo is that he is the best at playing hide and seek. He knows he is small and that people like to pick him up, so he has staked out hiding places in our home. He is very quick and he loves to hide underneath beds and underneath our kitchen table. One time Roo needed a bath and my mom and I spent 20 minutes chasing him around the house in order to grab him!
Describe your dog’s personality.
K: Roo has a very funny personality. He only weighs 7 pounds but runs our household. He is very sassy and spunky. He will bat around his food dish to let us know that he's requesting more food. He also never comes when being called, ever. He will just stare at you and then walk away, unless you have food in your hand. Roo also can be very snuggly, but typically only early in the morning or late at night when he is sleepy.
If your dog were a human, what would its job be?
K: If Roo were a human, he would definitely either be a CEO of a big company or the President. He loves being in charge and is not afraid to tell you what he wants. So I definitely think a job that requires a strong, determined leader who be perfect for Roo.
What’s your dog’s favorite pastime?
K: My dog's favorite pastime is doing absolutely anything with my mom. She takes him to work, she takes him out shopping, she takes him to the grocery store. Literally wherever my mom goes, Roo will follow. If for some reason he had to be left at home without mom for the day, he loves playing catch and being scratched while watching tv with us.
Maya and her two sassy little pups Caramel (9) and Ruby (3) : )
It was so easy to take photos of these pups! They were simply born to be in front of the camera, and of course their lovely owner Maya is a natural as well.
Why do you think people seek companionship through dogs?
Maya: Dogs provide endless amounts of love! They carry all of the qualities we wish to find in all relationships we make: loyalty, no judgment, fun, affection, and so much more.
M: We got Caramel on my dad’s birthday and he had no clue we were getting a dog. He kind of looked like a little cute rat and we put a bow around him.
M: We once again didn't tell my dad we were getting a dog. Ruby was the cutest little peanut so of course he couldn't be upset.
Any funny stories about your pups?
M: When we used to bathe Caramel in the bathtub, we would pick him up to put him inside and he would stick his head in our armpit to hide, as if we couldn't see where he went.
Ruby likes to stand on her two back legs and dance. One time she picked a rose from the garden, held it in her mouth, and started dancing. So seductive.
Describe your dog’s personality.
M: Caramel is very cat-like. He’s calm and simple, unless you get near my mom and he gets protective.
M: Ruby is strangely human-like. She gets very jealous and can be weirdly manipulative, but she is super loving, cuddly, energetic, and very funny. She also flirts and unlike other dogs will stare lovingly into your eyes and your soul.
