overriding $comment->hostname
if you are migrating comments, note that the hostname/ip cannot be passed through comment object. i had to replace the value of hostname from the function ip_address() from within the comment.module file while i was migrating. don't forget to restore comment.module to original settings after you're done!

searched all over for migrating MS SQL Server data to MySQL for my next Drupal migration project. found a very viable solution using Data Wizard for MySQL by SQLMaestro (yey!)
ways to programmatically add images to a node. if you have more than 1 image to add, make sure to set the image field to accept "unlimited" (if you know how many are allowed) or else the script will fail field
supercedes $node->created and $node->changed, very tricky when you don't look closely :-)
after you have migrated content programmatically, you want to know how you can update nodes as well. this link shows how...
here's another link with a handful of information on how to programmatically create nodes, comments, menus, terms, images, url alias etc.
if you migrate you want to be able to preserve the old URLs for your migrated content. acquia explains a few techniques.
