egon, once he’s around hannah for awhile, probably:
Life is good. Life is wonderfully, amazingly, scarily good. These past two weeks of dating Garrett have been a blur of laughter and cuddling and hot sex, intermingled with real life events like classes and studying, rehearsals and hockey games. Garrett and I forged a connection that caught me by surprise.. I don't regret my decision to date him and see where things go. So far, it's been working out great. The Deal, Chapter 33
I used 2 of my fav photos of Britt and Adam as reference for this piece.
Ghost social media + Exploring diseases, LGBTQ Identities, and happy memories
xavier baxter is really the character of all time. like. he’s a high school slacker archetype. he was accused of murdering his girlfriend. his favorite movie is dirty dancing. he can see ghosts. he’s a terrible boyfriend. he’s the world’s most supportive ex boyfriend. he tried to spill salt on a ghost to exorcise them. his online username is shredhead. he was hit by a car and died for a few minutes. his dad is the sheriff and he loves to break and enter. he’s scared of hospitals. he makes bird noises to alert his friends of danger. he’s never once had the brain cell. he has unnervingly blue eyes. he definitely has brain damage. he’s uncomfortable in the morgue but hangs out there with his ex girlfriend’s dad. he has a thing for strong women. he’s trying to be a better person. he’s smarter than he gives himself credit for.
Wally vs. Xavier
I find the differences between Xavier and Wally and how Maddie grew to be attracted to each interesting. With Xavier she told Simon that she thought he was hot and messed up. It actually makes a lot of sense for her character to find herself with someone like Xavier as she has spent half her childhood taking care of her mother. Maddie's nature has become that of a caregiver, someone who wants to take care of matters and fix the problem. It's no surprise she'd find herself attracted to someone with internal issues. He became that tragic, bad boy that she could fix, even if it was subconscious. That kind of relationship quickly breaks down and I don't think Maddie would have been happy with him even if he'd never cheated on her. However, he does break her heart because as Maddie pointed out, he had issues that only he could work out. I've seen some say she might eventually end up with Xavier in the end because he has changed, and while I do think he's much improved, I believe that her relationship with Wally will set her a new standard in which she will not be able to see Xavier the way she did before. Part of that attraction was his 'needing to be fixed' but after her experience with Wally I don't believe that would be attractive to her anymore.
The relationship experience with Wally is important because Wally is fairly well-adjusted for a dead guy. He and Maddie fall in love after time spent together, getting to know each other and supporting one another. They are there for each other but never try to fix the other. They love and accept each other as they are. Wally becomes an emotional anchor for Maddie, reminding her of her worth and remaining loyal to her.
The interesting thing is that Wally and Xavier actually mirror Maddie's parents and her relationship to them. Sandra has issues that have forced Maddie to become a caregiver, that hurt Maddie and which ultimately are not for Maddie to fix. Meanwhile, Dave is the parent which Maddie felt safest around, who selflessly takes his door to bring her home. His loyalty to his family, his love for them and steadiness in sending his daughter back even if he may never see her again mirrors Wally's own selflessness and loyalty.
It's well-known that I am rooting for a Mally endgame but realistically I don't think it's likely. In all honesty I don't think Maddie will end up with anyone by series end, rather she will be left with the experience of having loved and lost someone like Wally and, cue Harold and Maude-esque scene, Wally will tell Maddie to go love some more. I foresee the writers leaving it open-ended in which she's single but free to date whomever she chooses in the future, but we as the viewers will know she has been irrevocably changed and made wiser by her time with Wally.
alt outfits because i said so and i also want to explore what their modern styles might be 😝
WAIT-
Aroace Simon Elroy. Him growing up, never feeling anything romantic for anyone. It being part of the reason he latches on so tight to Maddie. She never expected anything from him. She was comfortable being around him and with affection and never let anyone else's teases about them "getting together" affect their relationship
Then Maddie goes missing and she gets trapped in the ghost world and she falls for Wally. And it doesn't make Simon mean any less to her because what they are to each other is different.
Simon's only thing against Wally is that he has so much of Maddie's attention. And that she's there with Wally. And at first Wally is jealous, or thinks that Simon wants to date Maddie. Because he doesn't really understand how else the could be so close. He grew up in such a time of hetero romance.
But over the course of the show he starts to get it. Wally and Simon both love Maddie so much- even if in different ways. They both would give up anything, would do anything for her. And then Simon gets stuck in the ghost world and he really gets it.
So of course he would protect Simon for Maddie- Simon put so much into getting Maddie back into her body, into doing anything to help her. And all Wally wants is for Maddie to be happy, even if it means not being with him. He and Simon want the same thing.
It changes, then. Wally reaches a point where he's no longer protecting Simon only for Maddie. No, he cares for Simon. Maddie loves Simon and Wally loves Maddie and it's only natural for Wally to start loving Simon a little bit, too.
They end season 3 in such a relationship of love and devotion and sacrifice and all of them would give up everything for the others, and it is romantic for Wally and Maddie, but it isn't for Simon and no one else needs to understand it because they do.

average mr. martin subplot:
School Spirits | 3.05 "Raiders of the Lost Scar"
kristian is this a sign
Charley and Mr. Martin are gonna be the next ones to get their doors. Hear me out:
Mr. Martin staying with Ralph allowed him to fix his mistake of leaving him that first time. Also now that Ralph is alone (since the pastor crossed over) Mr. Martin is probably gonna help him cross over and that would allow him to forgive himself and get his door.
We saw Charley in his scar ignoring the bullies, he's finlay ignoring the voices reminding him of all his insecurities, which I think will allow him to start overcoming them. The scene with him and Yuri saying "I love you" is a huge step for Charley to see that no matter how badly he thinks of himself, someone loves him for who he is, flaws and all. That too is gonna play a big part in him overcoming his insecurities and learning that it's ok to be himself.
finale giving us maddie getting five billion hugs and simon hitting van heidt over the head with a fire extinguisher. what more could you ask for.
I loved the little detail that after Maddie and wally hug/kiss and start walking again, he does not let go of her hand. Man has not been able to touch his girl for too long, he's not taking any chances anymore
I have no idea why it impacted me so much, but I literally teared up when Nicole and Claire saw Quinn and Rhonda.
Probably because the fates of the spirits get written off by most of the living kids and some of the fandom as not being important because they're dead. Even though, on this show, the implications of spending endless decades frozen in a limbo like state or trapped forever forgotten are ridiculously bleak. If you stack up how someone spends an eternity versus a limited amount of earth years, caring about their fate as much as Maddie does makes perfect sense.
And because the two of them have been running around for three seasons trying to help without ever having proof like Simon and Xavier had.
Now they're real to them, too, and I just love that.
You're the only place I never want to leave, wherever you go, is wherever I'll be.
