Slight return to Bedford River Festival (please see here for 2024 and 2022), beginning at Priory Park at dawn, then watching my niece, Cecilia (6) singing and arm wrestling, finished off with kayaking (she was disappointed at my not falling in but I'm too good an athlete for that!)

St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, Rome. The Dome designed by Michelangelo. Bernini’s Baldachin (Baldacchino), the massive, gilded bronze canopy standing over the Papal Altar. Michelangelo's Pietà. The High Renaissance sculpture depicts the Virgin Mary cradling the body of Christ. One the greatest sculptures ever created. There’s the technical brilliance and a genuine depth of emotion.

There wasn’t a formal rule that every artist had to create a Pietà, but during the Renaissance —especially in Italy—certain religious subjects became benchmarks for artistic ability.
