i get real hung up on the contraceptives part but i cant take out my birth control because my last birth almost killed me and they wont sterilize me because im too young. i am also interested in catholicism but this holds me back.

I can only say this with the utmost empathy and support, I think every single Catholic faithful, especially Catholic women and people with uteruses, should be informed and empowered to make whatever kind of choice they think is best for them and their situation in regards to birth control. Is this Church teaching? No. Is this what I believe? 100%.

I am of the belief that the material needs and realities of the body of believers (the Church) are more essential than dogma or "armchair theology."

Also, I am lesbian and in a relationship. I already have a certain level of dissonance with the Church's moral theology, which influences my view on these issues as well.

I think if you are interested in Catholicism, there is something also to be said about the fact that a lot of Catholics are not the hardcore zealots you see online. A majority of Catholics use contraception, despite the teachings on it. I've seen different numbers be thrown around, and it's about ≈60-90% of Catholics who use birth control (not including "Natural Family Planning") each time. So, a majority. Again, most people will ultimately choose life and its complexities over strict dogma. Dogma, which was written by men who are celibate and, frankly, men who often lie about being celibate........
