Overlock Stitch by @clothes_reetzy
Damn, that's useful
Finally a hand sewing tutorial on a hemline that isn't just the ladder stitch! the ladder stitch disappears when you tighten it, but it's not meant for hemlines because it breaks really easily! The overlock stitch is more stable, so it holds much longer, and it won't pucker or warp the fabric!
SHANE HOLLANDER MEETING ILYA ROZANOV FOR THE FIRST TIME: WOW 😍😍😍 WHAT A FUCKING ASSHOLE 🥰🥰🥰
HEATED RIVALRY 1.01: ROOKIES
Heatwave Recipe Recommendations
The heat’s been brutal this summer but we still gotta eat! If you’re like me, heat might suppress your appetite, and the last thing any of us want is to sweat over a hot stove and oven when it’s already boiling outside. Here are some of my favorite hot-weather recipes to keep hydrated and fed with when the weather is unbearable! (All recipes should be un-paywalled).
NYT’s best gazpacho (lives up to its name!!)
Persian cold cucumber soup (if you like tzatziki you will like this!)
Eric Kim’s cold noodles with tomato (infinitely riffable Korean flavor profile — for a creamier and less brothy take, try these cold sesame noodles too)
Vietnamese chicken and herb salad (this is an excellent time to get a rotisserie chicken so you don’t have to turn the oven on)
Radish sandwiches with butter and salt (and in a similar vein, if you dig this flavor combo you should try this Polish cottage cheese dip on some good rye bread or even crackers)
It’s still a little early in the season, but you can never go wrong with a BLT (or, if you don’t eat bacon, try this tomato furikake sandwich in its place)
Infinite iterations of pasta salad! You can use anything you got but here is a template I like.
Assorted dense bean salads. This back pocket canned salad is a weird combo of jarred ingredients but it slaps, this hoagie-inspired one is super satisfying, and cowboy caviar is a classic for a reason.
Poke bowls! Canned tuna mixed with some kewpie mayo and sriracha is a budget-friendly riff on the usual ahi and makes everything taste like a spicy tuna roll, but use whatever proteins you like, this is more of a loose template.
Please feel free to add some of your own favorite summer recipes in the replies and comments! We’ll get through this together. 🤝🤝🤝
If you can buy pre cooked or canned beets at the store, chłodnik (beet yogurt soup) is a great choice. You can leave out the radishes if you can’t get them.
I also love sardines on fresh bread and butter with assorted vegetables. Buy the fanciest canned sardines you can afford but even regular ones are pretty good. Plus, very healthy!
This requires cooking some of its ingredients but here's another eastern European cold soup that I like:
Cold summer soup Okroshka is made with boiled and fresh vegetables, eggs, fresh summer herbs, and meat. Perfect option for hot summer days
I make it vegetarian by leaving out the meat and adding some white beans + upping the seasoning

I live in the northwest coast of Canada so we walk everywhere and do stuff outside in the rain and swim in whatever lakes and rivers we find so imagine my smug sense of Canadian superiority when I met a USAmerican Midwesterner who was horrified at the very thought
And then I went to the USAmerican Midwest
And I understood
What I mean to say is that it's very easy to delude yourself into believing you are more in tune with your environment when your environment is not actively hostile to your existence in every conceivable way
BC, Canada:
Rains frequently, but the worst is like standing under a bathroom shower. Genuinely inhospitable rainstorms are uncommon.
Along the coast, it's pretty easy in most areas to walk to at least one store, or else there's usually a bus or shuttle available. There are sidewalks and bike lanes everywhere.
It's a temperate boreal rainforest, so while there are many freshwater lakes and rivers, they're usually pretty cold. The biggest danger is typically getting caught in a strong current, and the most dangerous animals in swimming distance are on land.
Earthquakes happen almost every day, but the vast majority go unnoticed. Buildings are designed to withstand bigger seismic activity, so unless it's a 5 or higher it just kind of feels like having low blood sugar for a second. There are no tornados
Rural Illinois, USA:
One minute it's sunny, then ten minutes later that distant smudge on the horizon has swallowed the entire sky in black clouds and the water is coming down like waterfall and you literally CANNOT SEE. Then there's a crash like cymbals and you need to get indoors because the thunder and lightening are on TOP of you
No sidewalks until you are in the smack dab center of town, which is a three hour walk or twenty minute drive from wherever you are.
There aren't many natural bodies of water other than small ponds and creeks, and because the environment is so much warmer, those are filled with snapping turtles that can grow bigger than a nine year old child and water snakes that are incredibly venomous. These are paired with leeches and mosquitos for that sweet umami flavor.

good morning. something needs to change
Don’t get me wrong I love irresistible Shane Hollander. Shane Hollander that everyone wants and he doesn’t even realize it. Shane Hollander that Ilya is incredibly territorial over, and it’s because everyone really does want a piece of him and he has no idea. I love all of this so much.
However.
I bring you idea that is not me projecting whatsoever (nope not at all)
Shane Hollander who people don’t want. Sure he’s attractive and there’s plenty of people interested at first. But he’s oblivious to their advances, his little quirks are off putting, he’s so particular. We view his autism so often as almost mild and not impacting his popularity, but it’s absolutely a contributing factor to his strained relationship with his team, I’m sure even before he comes out, even if he doesnt necessarily clock it.
Shane Hollander who puck bunnies talk about like “he’s so hot…. But” and not just because no one can really bag him, but because he’s so odd when they try. Doesn’t seem to realize, takes things too literally, won’t even really look at them. Something that just kind of gives people a vague ick.
Even other hockey teams, or his own teammates, it’s always he’s such a nice guy… But.
I don’t think we focus on this aspect enough, Shane is not a person with a lot of close people, it’s largely just Hayden and JJ and even then he’s a lot closer to Hayden. Eventually Rose enters that picture too, but that’s not a ton of people. This is an experience I think a lot of autistic people have the feeling of otherness that impacts your relationships with the people around you no matter how hard you try. Something that makes you just vaguely off putting to people and they can’t quite put their finger on why.
The explanation got longer winded than intended there but the lead in on this is Ilya doesn’t get this at all.
He knows Shane’s reputation: quirky, hockey robot, and a bit blank. He doesn’t understand it, seems to think it’s just people who don’t know him really. Maybe thinks a lot of it is down to racism (which it definitely is to a certain extent- just maybe not the whole picture).
Ilya whose just confused on how anyone could see Shane’s habits and not find them endlessly endearing. It starts with the smile he gives when Shane folds his clothes on their very first time together, the way he can’t help how cute he finds it. Over the years develops a Pavlovian response to folding that makes laundry hard to get through.
But it’s all of them, when Shane can’t make eye contact and he grabs his chins and Shane just melts. The way he bobs his head when he’s glancing away and processing conversations. The awkward cadence he has to any form of small talk he clearly doesn’t understand the beats for, verses the long confident rambles he goes on when you get him started on hockey. The meticulous way he wraps his stick, the rituals he has around it that he has to get exactly right or he’ll start over.
The first time he hears a teammate mention it he’s just so confused. Hell maybe they’re in Montreal and he’s out with the team before going to Shane’s and some of the local puck bunnies are chatting with them. Someone asks what about Hollander maybe wondering if he ever takes the stick out of his ass, and the girls just wrinkle their noses a bit. Maybe one of them defends him ‘don’t be mean, he’s sweet! Kind of.’ And Ilya cannot understand how everyone isn’t falling all over themselves for the chance to be with him.
He’s still jealous and a little territorial. Once they’re out, or even before when they’re with people who know, he’s always showing Shane off. So proud of him, of being the person who Shane wants to come home too. Absolutely none of that changes, Ilya knows how lucky he is in every universe. Is obsessed with Shane in every universe.
But just Shane who went through life with very few people putting in the effort to understand him, so many people alienating him. Not even in a mean intentional way just in a he’s different and strange and I don’t know what it is but I don’t like him way. Finding Ilya who loves him so much and so perfectly. Who doesn’t just tolerate him but loves him so much for all his habits and idiosyncrasies. Someone who would never try to change any of them and instead will fight anyone who tries. Ilya who just loves Shane exactly the way he deserves.
