This is my dog Bilbo, a 2-year old mix breed (Golden Retriever-Japanese Spitz) furball. Yesterday he was hit by a tricycle (tri-wheel vehicle). We still don’t know who was the driver as he/she didn’t even stop to help my poor dog. Thankfully, one of my neighbors saw my dog, and helped him get back to our house. He was limping, but I never thought that he’ll have a very bad fracture.
My brother and nephew took him to the veterinary clinic. When the doctor was examining Bilbo’s right hind leg, Bilbo was so much in pain that he peed when the doctor stretched his limb. He was injected twice. The doctor told them to come back tomorrow for an x-ray. For the meantime, the doctor gave us a prescription.
The next time day, I took him back to the clinic for the x-ray. We went to another clinic for that. We waited for at least 20 minutes, I bought a treat (bacon strip, his favorite). When I came back, the result was already at the veterinary clinic. The doctor was examining the result already. He explained to me how bad the fracture was, and told me that there’s no other way but to amputate his whole right hind leg.
I asked the doctor when can we can have the procedure, he said as soon as possible because Bilbo might get an infection because of the injury. He might be having an internal bleeding as the bones were shattered. And if you can see in the 2nd photo, it’s pointed and sharp bones and for sure it cut some muscles and veins already.
I decided to confine him in the clinic right away. It’s heartbreaking. I cant imagine this healthy and playful dog will have this risky and major operation caused by a reckless driver. The doctor discussed with me the risk of this operation as this is a major one. The hind legs are mostly muscle part, it has so many veins. As the doctor said, it’ll be a bloody one.
Right of this moment, Bilbo is confined in the clinic and I’ll visit him tomorrow morning before his operation. Still wondering where I’ll get the money for this operation. The surgery will cost 16,000.00 pesos. Then for the recovery phase, we will visit the clinic every 3 days to change the bandage and clean the wound, and it will cost 6,000.00 pesos more or less.
Praying and hoping for a successful operation and a fast recovery for this ‘gwapo’ dog. Hoping I could gather enough money too.
