any tips for a very scared new "writer"? if i can even call myself that
these are done suuuper quickly so i hope you don’t mind they’re a bit short x: also, these are just some tips that work for me, definitely not exhaustive and doesn’t necessarily have to be applicable to everyone!
anyone who writes anything story is a writer! don’t put yourself down bc it’ll only discourage you.
the more you write, the better you’ll be at it so write as much as possible every day if you have time. if you can’t, that’s okay too, but some days, writing is like running; you have to huff and puff until you break through the wall, and then it’s smooth sailing
free write. don’t backspace/cross-out until you’re completely finished with your thought/statement/paragraph/chapter/story. THEN go back and edit.
write whatever you want to write. don’t be bogged down by being especially concerned with being original. it’s totally fine to want to be original, but if you don’t really like the idea, then you likely won’t finish it. pick something you really like, even if it’s a trope or a cliche. sometimes, those are the most fun to write.
feedback is great!! reviews, comments, people spazzing abt what you wrote is so fun and awesome, but don’t let the amount of feedback you get dictate how you think of yourself as a writer. this is really hard, and i think a lot of people still struggle with this (myself included).
HAVE FUN WRITING basically
also, i just thought of this, but if you’re struggling trying to write emotions, what i find always works for me is putting myself in that situation/scenario and imagining the physical/mental state i’d be in. would my stomach flip? would the blood rush to my head? was there a time in my life i felt that before (yes) (if so, think back to how you felt as much as possible) (then take that emotion and describe it in detail)
does this help?? i feel like this is longer than i thought it would be :c sorry!!
