Of course he didn’t understand, she was practically talking in riddles, but he was still adorable and she continued to ramble. At least he admitted that it could be one of two reasons, drunk or dumb, or hell it could be both for all she knew. She knew nothing of this man, having only just met him at the bar, but as long as he was smart enough to keep her drink full - and the fact that actually offered to put her drinks on his tab? He would make due and be perfect for the evening, “you really didn’t have to do that, but thank you.” Granted, if he didn’t she would have just ponied up to someone else at the bar until she found a sucker with a deep wallet who’d keep her supplied tonight. She watched as he inched closer, her body stationary as she let him get as close as he wanted, a smile never fading from her lips as he did so. “Does it really matter?” She asked, turning her body to be facing him, moving closer to close even more of the gap as she rested a hand on his arm, “is that seriously what you want to talk about tonight?” Considering she’d just been rambling it made sense that he’d ask a follow up question, but Adelaide was already bored with that conversation - though it still stung that she’d lost out on such a good opportunity.
“Yeah, but I wanted to,” he said matter-of-factly with a shrug. He was sure he didn’t look like he was the heir to a multimillion fortune with his faded jeans and fifteen dollar shirt, but he was. And he while he wasn’t high maintenance like his mother and sister, he did like to stay comfortable. And not having to worry about empty drinks at the bar was a comfort he appreciated very much. “At first, no,” he confided. “But the more you got to talking, the more I wanted to hear.” He took a sip of his drink and then set the half full glass on the bar top, spinning it absentmindedly slowly. “What would you rather talk about?”

leaving all she ever had known behind hadn’t been her first option. however, between her dreams, her family’s constant issues, and the pile of fights increasing with time in her relationship, doing so was, at the time, what made sense. she didn’t feel happy, not to its fullest, and as scary and rough her path had been, she didn’t regret it. “i need a drink,” lizzie announces, arms dropping back to her sides, returning the favor and bypassing her wife’s question. although she didn’t aim to make things worse, she has never been one to stay quiet and and put up with someone else’s attitude. “and so do you, i can sense it. my treat.” she smiles lightly, head tilting to the side. “i will need to see the serving happen in front of me, though.”
Even as Lizzie’s arms dropped to her sides, Savannah stayed resolute. “And there’s liquor store down the street,” her words were sharp. “Don’t think you’re gonna come back here and play nice like this. You leave here without so much as a goodbye and now you’re back and acting like nothing ever happened. I don’t think so. You can tell me what you’re really here for or you can leave.”

Escape, that’s a good way to put it,” he had wished he could escape damn near as soon as he walked through the doors. Honestly, he didn’t even know which charity he was here to support tonight. He just knew he had to shake hands, sign some autographs, be in some photos, and drop a large sum to promote his image. “What’s got you escaping tonight?” He asked, feeling if the two of them were going to be out there he could at least talk to her so it wouldn’t be awkward. “Other than the fact that everyone in there seems to have their noses stuck in the air and talk with such condescending tones, or maybe that’s just to me because I don’t fit the bill for a proper businessman.” He had tattoos, sure he wore a suit, but his hair was still disheveled and he had that spitfire smile of his.
“Boredom,” Savannah replied with a shrug. “Well, not so much boredom as I didn’t want to come in the first place. I’m only here as a favor. No one’s gonna miss me in there.” She nodded toward the inside where people were talking and laughing and clinking glasses together in quiet cheers. “And you’re right, most of them have their noses in the air or up someone else’s ass.” She gave the stranger a once over and then narrowed her eyes. “You really don’t look like you belong here,” she was casual about her words, not meaning to offend, but more so agree with him. “So how’d you get roped into this kind of thing?”

It was becoming quite obvious that nothing he did would calm her, and if he were in the same position, he knew it would be the same. That would not dissuade him from continuing to try. “Then I shall get you your own horse. Until then, you are welcome to ride mine. Shadow will be delighted to make your acquaintance.” A mental note is made about the horse and about supplies for sewing. “She’s spirited, but I think you’ll get along well. Would you like to meet her?” He smiles in fond memory of the midnight black horse that has been his since childhood. “I do. I’m King of the Night Court, but you can address me as Nox. King is so formal and I’d like us to be friends.”
Lyra’s lips curled up into a hopeful smile when he mentioned the horse. “I’d like that very much,” she replied. She could almost feel herself riding again. How freeing it would be to feel the wind in her hair, the world flying past her so quickly she could barely see the details. Her daydreams halted when she heard him casually announce he was a king. “King?” Lyra’s eyes widened at the notion that he would brush it off as if the title meant little to him. “Your grace,” she dipped into a curtsy, feeling embarrassed she hadn’t known. But how could she have? “King of the Night Court? What does that mean? What is a night court?”

The comment only served to make her cheeks redder. Freya didn’t know why she was reacting like this, she had never reacted this way before. She brushed it off, seeing as they had a long way to go. The princess kept the scarf close. “Yes, sir.” The woman joked. She gave her own horse a small kick and they began another long journey.
He shot her a hesitant look from the corner of his eye and barely cracked a smile as he urged his horse on. That wasn’t something he was used to. “I’m not a knight, your grace,” was his snarky reply. As they pressed on, they reached the village by nightfall and secured a room. Saxon then had their dinner brought to their room. It was better to keep her away from prying eyes. Not many people knew her by face out here, but they never knew who they would run into on the road. “Lamb, potatoes, and wine,” Saxon said, his stomach growling as he sat down to his plate. Food was scarce and meagerly rationed while they traveled. It was rare they got to eat meat like this. “If I never eat another piece of bread again, it will be too soon.”

Leo knew how the council operated. His uncle was a part of it when the former monarch was still living. “My lady, the only way for you to win their favor is to show them that they have no other choice but to follow you.” Leo explained. “Men will never willingly bow to a woman. You must show your strength and confidence and soon, they will follow.” The man spoke as if he had experience with advising queens in the past. “I shall do my part, but you must do yours as well. Actions speak louder then words, after all.”
Strength. Confidence. Strength, she had though not the opportunity to prove it. Confidence... she would need much practice. Nicola swallowed, thinking over his words. “Thank you for your counsel,” she replied quietly. “That will be all for now. Jovan,” she turned to her advisor standing behind her, “see to it that Leo has a room in the castle.” She offered no smile, only this gesture. He had to be close by if he was to join her council. “That is all for today.”

“Yes, my lady.” Leo nodded. Leo planned on climbing the ladder, getting a better position in court was his main goal. He knew the princess wasn’t stupid, so he needed to play his cards right. “Would that be all, your grace?”
“One more thing,” she said, standing from spot on the throne and taking the few steps down toward him. She was shorter than him, but held her chin high like the royalty she was born and raised to be. “Tell me how to win their favor. Even if it is the smallest gesture. How do I begin earning their good faith?”

“That sounds good.” Freya wasn’t the most familiar with Ironforge, but she had heard of it. “The horses need rest as well. I doubt they liked traveling so much.” Freya tried to joke, yet returned to a calm grimace. “We could use a disguise, Saxon. I could wrap his around my face.” Freya grabbed one of her scarves, placing it over her face but not covering her eyes. “We could come up with something. Like say you’re a merchant and I’m your wife and we’re looking for a place to sleep in.” Freya felt her cheeks flush at the notion, but they needed some sort of believable story.
Saxon glanced over in time to see Freya’s face mostly covered by the scarf, unable to see the way her cheeks warmed at the comment. The man only laughed. “I doubt anyone would believe someone like me could land such a wife.” He hadn’t even realized what he’d said until the words were out. But it was too late to take them back now. Clearing his throat, Saxon gave his horse a small kick, enough to urge him along. “I s’pose it would work, though. Just don’t let anyone remove that scarf.”

The expression on her countenance and the way she folded in on herself whenever he touched her, made him take a cautious step backwards. Perhaps space was needed. Perhaps he said something wrong. “I apologize.” For what exactly? Well, it was a long list at this point. “I suppose you’re right. I cannot keep you company always, but I would not leave you on your own. I can introduce you to those I trust. Aside from that, well,” He pauses to think a moment, “I realize I do not know much about you. Do you like to paint? Read? My library is the largest in the realm. I’m quite proud of it.” There’s a small hint of a smile on his lips before he continues. “I will do whatever it takes to make your stay here more comfortable.”
His apology brough her no comfort, though she knew somehow that he genuinely meant the words. She simply wanted to go home. The notion seemed to be impossible at the present moment and so Lyra merely looked down at her hands and fidgeted with the ring on her finger embellished with her family’s crest. How long would she be without them? When her comfort was mentioned, she fought down the urge to scoff at the suggestion. He was at least trying. So she should as well. “I ride,” she said, looking back up, “horses. And I’m fond of embroidery and sewing. I read sometimes.” Lyra met his gaze again. “I’m afraid I don’t know how to address you. Do you have a title?”

the idea of returning to her hometown daunting enough to disturb a few nights of sleep, and as much as she didn’t expect the trip to be filled with pleasantries, lizzie didn’t expect to feel her heart rate spike just by being in front of her wife’s bar, the possibility of the encounter enough to leave her hesitant. however, once the familiar voice reaches her ears, that weight appears to leave from her shoulders as her body turns in her direction, arms crossed against her stomach. “to be fair, i didn’t ring your dad either.” she says with a shrug, daring to move a step closer. “how have you been ? you look good,”
“Well that makes me feel so much better,” Savannah scoffed sarcastically. She mirrored her ex-wife’s body language, crossing her own arms in front of her. Her hair was different from when she’d seen her last. And she had that same look about her like she always used to get when she wasn’t sleeping well. For a split second Savannah wondered if it was because of her. Completely ignoring the woman’s question, Savannah shrugged. “What are you doing here, Lizzie?”

His heart was not a cold stone, it ached for her. Fae magic was difficult to explain and even more difficult to understand. Most of it had certain loopholes that humans were not aware of. Unfortunately, there were no known loopholes with consuming food. “ You are right. You don’t belong. “ He remains quiet on whether or not she is wanted. Her presence had certainly caused some problems, but he did not personally think she a terrible nuisance. In fact, she was far different from anyone he had ever met and that was intriguing. “ The thing is, you will not be able to step off of fae lands. The food you consumed will keep you here, like an invisible tether. ” A gentle thumb is raised to caress her cheek and wipe away a tear that gathered there, before his hand falls back to his side. “ I need you to be patient. I am trying to find a way. “
She swallowed the lump in her throat. So he admitted it. She didn’t belong. She was nothing but an unwelcome stranger in the most foreign land she’d ever encountered. She slightly recoiled from his touch, not for any other reason than she just wasn’t accustomed to such a gesture. At his words, her heart fell and she choked down the rest of her tears. Crying wouldn’t help her now. Patient. She could be patient. She simply nodded. “What will I do until then?” she asked with a sigh. “I can’t leave the grounds, I don’t know anyone. How will I fill my time?”

“Fine.” Josephine smiled. “There’s a new place by the park. Causal, vintage, that sort of thing. No ties needed.” Josephine promised, taking to look around as Jesse for ready. “When was the last time you went out? Work seems to be keeping you these days.”
“You had me at casual and vintage,” he grinned, sliding on his boots and topping it off with his hat. Never went anywhere without it. As they headed out, Jesse snorted in lieu of a laugh. “Let’s see... probably before my daughter was born... how old is Savannah?” he chuckled at the poor joke. Sure, he’d been out, but he really couldn’t quite remember when, until the memory came back. “Oh, I know, New Year’s Eve. Went out with Mack and the guys, home in bed by nine.”
