LATE TO THE PARTY - A song about pants and their location in relation to that of the ground.

This is my very first Late to the Party post, and boy is it a big one!

Back in the good ole' days of 2010, people actually gave a damn about American Idol. Season 9 of American Idol averaged about 22 million views per episode. It was also the last time we'd see Simon Cowell on the show. Simon left American Idol at the end of the season to start another awful singing contest (the X-Factor), and for the good of all mankind, started to fade into irrelevancy.

Speaking of irrelevancy, how long do you think it will take last year's winner to completely fall off the face of the Earth? And really, his name is fucking Philip Philips. If he doesn't cover "Sea of Love" at some point in his career, I'd be very disappointed.

Getting back to the point of this post, Season 9 of American Idol, just like every other season, had it's fair share of memorable moments. However, no other moment had nearly as much magnitude as this one did.

This is "General" Larry Platt, a 65 year old black man who wrote a hip-hop protest song that criticized the MTV hip-hop lifestyle that many younger black men choose to live. And it was fantastic. Seriously. It was so fantastic, that it was released as a single a few weeks after this video, which then fucking charted in the top 50 of Billboard's Hot 100 of 2010.

To conclude, this video is fantastic, and this song is fantastic, but perhaps the best thing about it was Simon's reaction to the entire thing. I really don't know what's better, the General's amazing flow or the fact that Simon, the smug bastard that he is, immediately knew it was going to get viral.

An introduction of sorts

Hello! I don't how or why you came here, but nevertheless, welcome to this complete waste of time I like to call "my blog"!

This here blog of mine was created for the sole purpose of entertaining people by making a complete jackass of myself. Think of it just like a PewDiePie video, except with intentional douche-baggery with a substantial amount of thought put behind it.

The majority of the content I post here will fit into segments for lack of a better term. Each segment will contain content that is unique to that specific segment. In a sense, these segments are pretty much nothing more than Jeopardy categories for this blog. Here are a few of the segments I currently have planned:

DUSK'S SHOW ABOUT STUFF

An idea I've had for a while now is to make a web-show in which I talk about a variety stuff (video games and cartoons, mostly). It would pretty much be a complete rip-off of shows like the Nostalgia Critic or JonTron, only not at all funny. Fortunately for you, this idea has been and will be on hold for a while. Right now I'm only just learning how to edit, and the only camera I can record video with is a piece of shit. I'm hoping I'll have everything down pat by the start of Spring next year, but I can't guarantee anything, other than at some point within this blog's lifespan, the show will exist - and it will be awful.

MONDAY BAD, MUSIC GOOD

Now here's something I can do right away! Since everyone seems to hate Mondays (myself included), I thought of a way to at least try to make them suck less: music. Every Monday, I'll post a song that I like for you to listen to. I'll try to post a wide variety of songs and artists, as well as some of the more "obscure" stuff, but at the end of the day, it's what I like, and if you like it too, cool beans.

LATE TO THE PARTY

Have you ever been in a situation where there's this apparently popular thing floating around, but you don't get the chance to check it out until everyone has already moved on to the next big thing? That's essentially the gist of this segment. Only difference is, I do it on purpose. I take a look at these things that at the time were the hottest things since the bag they put sliced bread in, but I never gave a fuck about until now.

ART APOCALYPSE

A segment in which I prove I have absolutely no artistic ability OR integrity.
