I ran 10km in the Melbourne Marathon yesterday and I finished in 57.46mins, which was a personal best by far for me! About two months ago I would be left completely breathless trying to run 50 metres to catch a train, so I'm really proud of how much my fitness has improved. I'm going to keep running and next year I'm going to run the half marathon!
I buy second hand textbooks so that I can scribble all over them.

I'm almost halfway to my target fundraising goal for DEA. They're an incredible group that I've volunteering with since my first year of medicine. Please donate by visiting the link!! :) All donations are tax deductible!
yes! you tell em B.
Today's green and navy blue polka dot hospital look, featuring the awkward phase of growing out a fringe.
Watch this awesome video of Melbourne medical professors, doctors, and medical students discussing the dangers of climate change, and the detrimental impact of burning fossil fuels on human health.
These are some of big dogs in medicine supporting the divestment movement! Incredible to see :D
DEA was in the Herald Sun today!! (Suprising, I know.) See if you can recognise the leaping girl with the stupid smile on in scrubs.
There’s less than a week go until the Melbourne Marathon. Donate to this fantastic cause!

I actually don't mind sitting here in a windowless room in the basement trawling through pages and pages of patient files for research data collection. It's kind of relaxing.
And, I have snacks.
Great weather to go running!
Thank you to all of the beautiful anonymous people who have supported my run so far. You're the best!!! Keep donating toward an excellent cause by clicking here. There's only a week to go!
This year I lost a beautiful Topshop shirt with horses on it that I loved, and also my Gorman black work pants. I spent at leat two days looking through the entire house and couldn't find them anywhere, so eventually I just came to the conclusion that I must have accidentally donated them to an op-shop somewhere.
9 months after they went missing I just found them.
They were still unpacked from my trip to Turkey... back in January. I still haven't unpacked from my trip to Brisbane either. I'm running out of clothes to wear.
A+ job at being an adult Ozge.
Do you have any study tips? How do you go about making your notes? (i've seen some photos and they seem so neat and pretty) !
I probably could have studied a lot smarter in med school to be honest, but here are some tips:
When you're on the wards carry around a little pocket medical book with you (like the Oxford handbook) so that you can look up conditions straight after you've seen them in person.
Work out whether you prefer typing notes, or handwriting notes and try to stick to that for the entire year so that you can keep all of your notes organised based on subject/medical speciality.
Try to be creative with your studying! For example, I had a friend who would go to the gym and take her notes with her so that she could read them while she was on the treadmill. Keeping fit, and keeping up to date with study!
Change around your study environment to keep it interesting. Don't stay in the one spot all day.
Study in groups if that works for you! It can be great to have someone to discuss your issues with, and it's also great for sharing resources.
Drink lots of water and have healthy study snacks with you - like almonds, or fruit, or crackers and dip.
And the most important study tip of all is... Try and get your hands on as many practice papers as possible! That's how you get H1s. Because almost every university will repeat exam questions for most subjects.
I finally did my tax return!
Hey guys there is just over a week to go until my run in the Melbourne Marathon! I'm raising money for the fantastic organisation that is Doctors for the Environment.
Thanks to those awesome tumblr friends who have already supported my run.
Visit the link above and donate a couple of dollars if you can!! :)
Thank you so so much for your answer ! That really helped. I'm currently in my first year of science, and only just recently realised I wanted to do med. Can I also ask aproximately how many hours a day/week you dedicated to studying for the GAMSAT? Also, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of GPA did you have - just so I know what to aim for !
I didn't have a super high GPA, it was fairly average. It was my GAMSAT marks that boosted me up. But there would be no point in comparing yourself to my marks anyway because the bench mark is going to change every year.
If you're in your first year of science I wouldn't think it's unreasonable to get H1's in most of your subjects. Make the most of undergrad while it lasts, trust me! Your subject are considerably easier than they will be in med.
I don't think you have to go crazy studying for the GAMSAT. If you do a couple of questions every night, and then a couple of hours on weekends, maybe. But at the same time if you're feeling stressed, always take a break when you need to!
Abortion right around the world - The Guardian
OMG women in Turkey (a fairly conservative Muslim country) have better abortion rights than women in New Zealand! That is ridiculous :o
Any last minute tips for the Melbourne med interview?
If you've made it to the interview stage, then you've already got a pretty good chance of getting in!
I think that if you just be really nice, relaxed, and honest that will work in your favour. You might get some of these questions:
Why do you want to study medicine?
What do you think are some of the biggest health problems that we face in Australia?
Some situation on conflict resolution within a group (usually a class of students).
Good luck! And trust me, if this dumb girl from Broady who went to a crappy public school can get into med at Melbourne, anyone can.
