In case you also want to hear this-

That ending was homophobic.

They wrote a gay character who is assaulted, abused and possessed through out his entire childhood.

THEN in the final season they give him hope for a happy loving life by having him witness a happy queer relationship, and then! proceed to finish his storyline by having him empathize and identify with his abuser and ending up with no one.

That's not an ending someone writes when they care and empathize with abuse survivors or gay people. In a show that claimed to be first and foremost, a coming of age story! It's not about a ship. In fact there were so many ways byler could have been dealt with in a meaningful way that didn't end in them getting together. It's about the state of gay representation in mass media. It's about the fact that yet again queer characters are not handled with the depth and care that is given when writing straight relationships. Straight love saves the day but gay love is left in the background, to yearn and suffer about.
